Nikkatsu Corporation, formerly Nikkatsu Studios, was formed in 1912 when four Japanese film companies (M. Pathe, Yoshizawa Shoten, Yokota Shokai and M. Kasho) merged to create one of Japan's earliest large-scale film production houses. During the 1960s, Nikkatsu Studios went bankrupt but was re-established under union leadership. In the 1970s, due to financial difficulties, Nikkatsu began producing Roman Porno films in a conveyor belt system, which led to the creation of "Roman Porno" or "Romantic Pornography". This genre became synonymous with Nikkatsu's pink film style and continued until the mid-1980s. With the advent of home video technology, adult videos emerged (Japan's AV industry rose during this period). As a result, Nikkatsu's Roman Porno line was severely impacted. In 1985, Nikkatsu introduced the "Roman X" line, shifting towards more explicit content (akin to modern-day AV), but this effort ultimately failed. In 1988, Nikkatsu abandoned its 16-year-old pink film genre and changed its name to Nikkatsu Corporation, focusing on mainstream films.
Yoritaka Sorano was well aware that even if Robonica Films was in crisis, the company's assets were around 5 billion yen!
