A few hours later, the family stood in front of a small cottage. Ted took a step forward to knock, but Keith yelled impatiently.
“Grannyyy!! I’m hereee!”
Almost instantly, they heard a voice from inside, “Oh my goodness Keith, you’re finally back!”
A few seconds later, the door opened and there stood an old lady with a slightly hunched back, “Oh my sweet little munchkin, come to granny!” she exclaimed as she ignored everyone other than Keith, who jumped into her embrace.
Ted couldn’t help but smile at this sight while Tonks sighed with slight jealousy as she remembered how she used to be the one who used to get first priority before Keith came into her family.
But she didn’t mind it. She took a step forward as Keith let go of her and the old woman looked at Tonks next.
“My adorable cupcake!” she exclaimed as she trotted towards Tonks and hugged her next.
Tonks grinned widely as she hugged her back, “I missed you granny.”
“My my, I missed you lot too. Now, come in come in.” she said as walked in and watched as her son carried huge trunks. Andromeda was the same as she too walked in with two huge trunks.
Both of them showed no signs of exertion but she knew the reason why. More than twenty years ago, she was told how her son was special and she was proud of it even now.
“Andromeda, my daughter!” she said patted her roughly as she pointed at a huge sack at the corner of the room, “I’ve packed up some tea leaves I’ve grown in my garden for you guys. Don’t forget to take it home.”
While his parents and grandmother caught up, Keith grabbed Tonks’ wrist and ran over to the guest room before locking the door behind him.
He then turned to look at her with a cute expression on his face, “Hey sis, I um need your help with something…”
“And what would that be?” Tonks said as she looked at him curiously.
“I want to take your books instead of buying new ones. It’ll save a lot of money right? I overheard mom and dad talking a few weeks ago about how they don’t have enough money to buy me new stuff.”
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Hearing this, Tonks thought for a bit and then nodded, “Well, it makes sense doesn’t it? Mom’s been using up all the money on potion ingredients to teach you stuff. But sure, feel free to use my books however you want but as far as I can tell KB, you might need a new book for Defence against the dark arts since our professors keep changing each year and there’s a good chance that they might want you to get a different book than the one I’ve used.”
“About the potions… I have a lot of them stocked up. Can we sell them for some money?” Keith asked with a slight frown on his face before adding, “New books are fine for one subject.”
“You should be able to sell them, yes. The shops will buy them as long as the quality is acceptable.” she muttered and then smiled at him, “And that won’t be a problem now, would it? As much as I hate to acknowledge it, you’re clearly better than me when it comes to brewing potions and you’re only eleven.”
She then ruffled his hair, making him glare at her but she simply chuckled in response to his reaction, “Say what? I’ll buy you a pet with my first salary.”
Keith’s expression lighted up immediately and he hugged her tight.
“Thanks Nymphy… I love you.”
Tonks relaxed under his hug and hugged him back affectionately, “Love you too, KB.” she said and patted his head before pulling back.
“You know, I’ve talked to mom about your… inheritance.” she said with a slight frown on her face, “Like, the only other Black is Sirius and he’s in Azkaban. We already confirmed that you’ll have access to the Black family vault, which means you’re unbelievably rich.”
She then kicked the study table near her and buckled over to grab her leg in pain, “Ugh…” she groaned and sat down on the chair.
“I just don’t understand why mom doesn’t want to use the money that’s technically yours. It’s not like she’s using it on herself, dad or me, you know what I mean? If only she used that money, you could have had more stuff to learn and experiment with.”
Hearing this, Keith shrugged, “Well… mom said that I can use the money I make from selling all the potions. She wants me to learn how to use money or something like that before she let’s me use the money that’s under the Black name.”
“Did you overhear that too?”
“Um… yes. But when I asked her directly, she told me that I can use the money once I come of age. Until then, I must follow her rules.” Keith explained before he decided to get to the main topic, the stuff he was banned from learning.
He looked up at her and spoke softly, “And… can you teach me some spells? You know, mom didn’t teach me anything other than cleaning and fire spells since they’re required for potions.” he said and then whispered, “I learned diffindo on my own but don’t tell mom.”
Tonks stared at him with disbelief for a few seconds before she began roaring with laughter.
“HAHAHAHAHAHA Merlin’s beard KB, you never seize to amaze me. Well, diffindo is a pretty simple spell but make sure you don’t use it on people.”
Keith pouted at her, “Hey, I learned it so I can cut my potion ingredients without a knife! And let me tell you, I’ve almost mastered it. I still have to use a knife to cut things when it comes to potions that need extreme precision but most of the times, diffindo is way faster.”
Tonks shook her head and sighed, “Alright if you say so, KB. Let’s see… a spell huh? Something harmless but useful against people… oh yeah. Do you know about the Body bind curse?”
