First Hunt

"Is this really a Grade 3?" Ashes asked, holding a 3 meter long centipede with human arms and legs and a human face it took from a dead body as it's head.

  "It is." Celestes answered.

"It certainly looks quite creepy." Ashes remembered what happened some time ago.

  ~

"Ashes? Really?" Celestes asked him what kind of name that was.

Ashes didn't like his name either. But he cannot do anything about it. That mysterious voice said his new name was Ashes and it became that.

  He sighed.

"I didn't pick that name. When I was going to say my new name, I suddenly found myself in a dark space where nothing could be seen." He explained.

"But your body was here all the time. And our souls are stiched. How did I not sense it?" Celestes was shocked.

"I don't know. Anyways, a voice talked with me there. He is the one who transmigrated me and killed you. He said you were very irresponsible." Ashes said, hoping that she can identify who it was.

Celestes kept quiet, so he kept speaking.

"He said that you were a wrong choice of he knew how irresponsible you are. Then he said that my world was in danger of being destroyed by him."

"Did you ask why he chose you?" Celestes asked.

"Yeah. He said that he was very intrigued by my fate. He gave me the Ashes name. Them I woke up."

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Celestes started to wonder who could it be. But then she felt a faint presence.

  "Look behind!"

  Ashes stopped breathing.

He heard a very faint sound of a click and quickly turned back.

On the roof was a long centipede with a human face and human arms as it's legs. The centipede had tore off a human face and put it on its head. The arms were genuine though. Each arm's fingers were twisted and bloody, a result of using them to crawl around.

The centipede was hunting him, and if Celestes hadn't alerted him, he would have died.

  ~

"A Grade-3 Low Mimic Centipede. Grade-3 relates to Seniors." She told Ashes.

"Huh? This thing can mimic others?" Ashes asked, not able to understand how this thing with many legs can do that.

"That's why it's a low mimic. All low mimics are like this. They do not have a mimic ability and hunt by disguising themselves with strange mutations."

"See, it's top legs are like human arms and the bottom ones are like legs. It's back looks like a human wearing clothes. Though not perfect, it has a human face mask covering it's actual face. They resemble human parts because it's main food is humans. Seeing how it's in grade-3, the disguise is certainly working. Normally, these are grade 2."

Ashes turned over the centipede and sure enough it's back looked like a human back. In the mine's limited lighting, this thing on ground would look like a dead human. Other miners would come near to check thus becoming it's prey.

While the centipede looked disgusting, Ashes didn't feel much. He had a Chaotic body, something more disgusting than a multiple legged monster. This thing was a child compared to it.

When he first used aether to sense his surroundings, he sensed a very sickening thing inside his body. Celestes told him that must be the chaos aether that was remaining.

But then, without him doing anything, that aether god absorbed into his soul. He became frightened that he was gonna become a Chaotic being, but after some time, except for him losing a bit of emotion, nothing happened. He again examined himself and found nothing.

The scary part was over and now he only had one thing to do. To survive until he becomes an Absolute. Celestes told him that Absolute beings can create a new 'True Body' for themselves.

It takes a lot of time, but the new body will be perfect.

Now he just had to survive and advance in secret. And his ability was perfect for this.

The centipede was not moving, a result of his new ability. He was thankful that he got to test his new power.

When he learned of his ability he was impressed and shocked.

It sounded very basic but the applications it had in a battle was immense.

He had been experimenting on the monster and was done with learning his abilty.

He then smashed the centipede on the ground. The impact shook the mines and a lot of loose crystals fell.

He wasn't afraid of anyone noticing. This was a mine and some veins collapsing was usual.

The centipede was very resilient and still alive. It's exoskeleton was crushed and it's legs mashed. But it still kept moving.

Ashes looked at it with disgust. He stepped on its head, instantly crushing it.

A blood red mist started to flow out of its body converging above it.

Ashes felt sick looking at it. Suddenly the mist floated towards him, getting absorbed into his body. He kneeled, his mind overloaded with feeling of extreme disgust. His head was hurting a lot and he started gasping.

"That was Chaos aether! This thing was a Chaotic being!" Celestes exclaimed.
