CH. 8

"Go, Steve! Go, Steve! Go, go, go!" Alex cheered, waving a stick around like a cheerleader. That's how Qrow saw it anyway, and he found it amusing. Very amusing. The contrast between the two made it even better. Alex was seen to be the quite opposite of Steve, who looked emotionless most of the time.

Still, as Qrow watched the kid closely, he knew he wasn't someone to take lightly. Call it gut instinct.

"You've got a supportive girlfriend there, kid," Qrow couldn't help but smirk. "I remember being fawned over by dies back in my day. Ah, youth... it was my prime back in the day. How I missed those."

  Steve blinked but stayed silent.

"..." Qrow noticed the silence and raised an eyebrow. Did he say something wrong? "Uh, your sister?" Maybe he misunderstood their retionship? Though he doubted it, as the two didn't look reted at all. Maybe they are half-siblings? That could expin it, like how his nieces are.

"..." Steve just merely stared at him. In truth, he didn't know how to respond to that question.

"I'll take that as a no." Qrow shook his head, ughing silently. He eyed the kid's weapon and couldn't help but furrow his brows. "Anyways, kid, are you sure you're gonna fight me with just a sword?"

Steve, whose weapon was a pin steel sword from the looks of it, merely nodded in response.

Qrow couldn't help but sigh. "Kid, I mean no offense, but I don't think you're gonna win with a sword."

"Ain't yours a sword too?" Steve asked, pointing towards Qrow's weapon.

Qrow chuckled, "This is different." He quickly pulled out his weapon and swung it around. "Very different."

  "How so?"

Qrow smirked, "Then why don't you find out? if you're lucky that is." He pointed the sword at Steve, who merely shrugged at the gesture.

"Okay," Steve took his own stance.

  "Ready?"

"Ready," Steve replied, then saw Qrow smile before rushing towards him at incredible speed. Steve quickly blocked the first strike Qrow attempted but was then met with a series of strikes that put him on the defensive.

"Come on, kid, don't disappoint your elders," Qrow ughed.

Steve's eyes narrowed, focusing solely on the speed of Qrow's strike. When he saw one of the strikes Qrow nded had an opening, despite being so small, it was enough for him to readjust. He then went on the offensive.

"Woah!" Qrow leaned to the side, watching as the bde went right past him. "Now this is what I am talking about!"

Both cshed, parrying each other's blows perfectly, as neither nded a single hit against the other for a solid minute until both bdes met in a steady confrontation.

"Got a strong grip, you got there." There was slight heavy breathing on Qrow's side as his forehead was ced with sweat. He looked at the kid, who looked utterly fine. He was shocked, to say the least, but he didn't show it. Never show your weakness to your enemies. That was one of the few lessons he took to heart ever since the day he became a huntsman

Steve merely shrugged and gave no comment.

Both sides pulled off for a moment before their bdes cshed again, continuing the series of strikes. They moved to different sections of the small area they were in, each trying to outmaneuver the other, but they seemed to be on equal ground. Not once did the other show an opening, leading the fight to drag on without any clear victor.

'Damn, this kid is good,' Qrow had to admit. This kid gave no openings like he was trained with a sword his entire life. He took a moment to step back and did a sidekick aimed at Steve's head, but Steve managed to duck in time to dodge it.

Qrow realigned his shoulders and swung his sword but was only met by another perfect block.

Tsk. Qrow clicked his tongue as he took on more offensive tactics. He tried pushing the kid back, using more strength than necessary. Although this was only a spar without dealing with life-or-death situations, he knew this kid could probably hold himself. Probably. He hoped.

True to his guess, Steve showed no signs of discomfort or panic as he was pushed back by Qrow's several barrage attacks. This led him to widen the distance between the two of them as he attempted to catch his breath to fill in the lost air from his lungs. "Kid, when did you learn swordsmanship?" he asked as he saw the kid lowering his sword.

  "A what?"

Qrow took a moment to respond before shaking his head. "Fine, never mind." He raised himself and jumped at him.

Steve lifted his head, and before Qrow was about to deliver his blow, Steve took a step to the side, dodging the attack. The blow left the ground shaking, causing dust to blow off. While Steve remained still, Qrow took this as an opportunity to strike him in the head with a punch. Qrow's fist collided with Steve's face, surprising him and pushing him several meters back, yet he was still standing.

"Fuck, that hurts," Qrow hissed in pain, shaking his hand in order to ease it. "The fuck are you made of, kid? Steel?"

Steve stared at him and consciously rubbed his cheek. For a slight moment, he felt pain. He looked at Qrow and couldn't help but say, "You're strong."

Qrow's eyes widened a bit before ughing hysterically. Did this kid really just say it after only getting punched? The thought of it makes him want to ugh more. It felt like the kid showed no emotion even with the barrage of attacks he did to him but only showed it after a punch in the face.

"I know, I've been told that a lot tely." Qrow cracked a smile and pulled his sword from the ground. "That attack earlier? I called that Fake and Hit. You fake it till you hit it. Cool, huh?"

Much to Qrow's disappointment, Steve didn't ugh or show any signs of getting his joke.

Qrow sighed. "You know, sometimes you remind me a lot of Ironwood with that stoic face of yours."

At that, Steve's eyes rose a bit. "A wood made out of iron?"

  "Huh?"

Steve's face fell at his confusion. "I have a question. Can I use items?" he proceeded to ask.

"Huh? Items?" Steve showed no signs of reply. Qrow then shrugged it off. "Whatever, use it. Doesn't matter anyway." It's not like it would be one of the weird shits he pulled off tely. Can it?

Steve nodded, and a green orb appeared in his hand. He tossed it at Qrow, who assumed it was some sort of bomb or throwing weapon and dodged. "Kid, if you think—wait, huh?"

As he turned his head back in Steve's direction, Steve was nowhere to be found. Qrow felt a brush of air and perked up as a sound crept up behind him. He saw a blurry figure of a bde coming right at him. Qrow blocked the attack just in time, but Steve showed no joke as his strength suddenly spiked out of nowhere. Qrow gritted his teeth, attempting to push back, but to no avail as one final push from Steve sent him flying towards a tree, his back nding on the log sending spikes of pain through his back.

"Ow, fuck that hurt," Qrow hissed, but luckily his feet remained strong, as did his bance. 'That kid can use teleportation? Fuck, is there anything that this kid can't do?'

"Okay, kid, you got me there," Qrow said, lowering his weapon. 'Man, I'm getting too old for this shit,' he thought as he shook his head.

"That will be all. Let's call this a tie, shall we?"

"A tie? But we haven't finished yet," Steve said, almost sounding disappointed.

Qrow faintly smiled. "Kid, even if we end the spar right here and right now, it won't change the outcome. You can clearly see who will be the winner" He pointed at himself and winked "Anyways, it's te at night, and I'm afraid I can't stay up too te, not to mention we've caused a lot of ruckus here. We can't have you get alerted by the Grimm now, can we?"

Steve nodded as the sword in his hand disappeared in a quick fsh. "But wouldn't it be better for them to come here?"

"...." Qrow fell silent before chuckling. "Nice joke, kid. I think you may need to hit the hay with that mentality of yours at the moment. Actually, maybe I hit you too hard in the face, so sorry about that."

"I—" Before Steve could reply, Alex quickly rushed up to him with her arms wide open, ready to bear-hug the life out of the poor guy.

  "Steve!"

Qrow watched as the two fell to the ground, with Alex on top of him.

"That was cool! You were like bang, and he was like bang! And you were like bang again!"

'She really does remind me a lot of Ruby,' Qrow thought as he watched the scene with a smile. He hummed, raising his head to gaze at the broken moon and toward the house on the side. For a single day, he had seen quite a lot of things. He didn't know if this was a good sign of what was to come in the future.

"If only you could see this in person, Ozpin," Qrow mumbled. He really needed to hit the bar right now. A drink or two… actually, make it five, would be better.

-------AN: Ahem, so I'm back on this fic. Pretty long time since I've updated it. Though this is a rather short chapter but well, I tried to my best. The reason I haven't updated this is because I don't have the motivation to write it like I used to before but I'll try to update this as much as my other fic since I've have made some pns for this fic.

Anywaaaays, I'm not really good at writing fight scenes so I hope this was at least decent, if not then...uhm, I'm sorry. Feel free to criticize me on that matter hahaha.
