Chapter 5: Elise

With a dull thud, Kloeber was violently pushed into the cell by Aena. The powerful shove caused Kloeber to stumble and nearly fall to the ground.

Aena's icy gaze lingered on Kloeber for a moment, and then she turned around and left without uttering a word, leaving Kloeber alone in the gloomy and frigid cell. The surroundings instantly descended into a deathly silence.

Kloeber instinctively stroked his already sunken stomach due to hunger. The hunger was like a ferocious beast, churning violently in his stomach. At this moment, his vision went dark in waves, and he felt as if he might faint at any moment due to a lack of strength.

Recalling that the only thing he had done last night was to deplete his magic power, Kloeber couldn't help but wonder if this was the reason why he was getting hungry much faster than usual.

"Maybe," Kloeber clenched his fist and gently pounded his palm, his expression tinged with a hint of helplessness and confusion.

At this moment, Kloeber felt as if he were in a desolate desert. The extreme hunger made him feel that he could eat anything, even celery, which he usually hated the most.

"I hate celery!" Kloeber muttered to himself in his heart, but then he shook his head with a bitter smile. "But even celery would be fine right now!" His voice was filled with despair and helplessness.

"To think that I've never been in a relationship, and I haven't even touched the queen's hand... Oh no, I did touch her leg today, but I'm going to starve to death in this foreign land. How tragic!" Kloeber sighed and lay on the bed feebly, staring blankly at the ceiling with his mind having completely given up thinking.

He curled up his body, trying to relieve the sharp pangs of pain coming from his stomach in this way. Only by doing so could he slightly ease the ever-present feeling of hunger.

Suddenly, a faint fragrance wafted over from nowhere. The aroma seemed to possess some mysterious magic, like an invisible hand gently tugging at Kloeber's soul and slowly seeping into his nostrils.

Kloeber involuntarily let out an incredibly cute sound. His originally closed eyes snapped open, and a trace of longing flashed in his eyes. Like a small animal attracted by food, he closed his eyes and, following the direction of the fragrance, unsteadily got to his feet.

"So fragrant, so fragrant!" Kloeber mumbled to himself, and saliva uncontrollably dribbled from the corner of his mouth.

One can never understand that when faced with any fragrant food, the desire for it will be infinitely magnified and the sense of smell will become extremely acute unless they have been extremely hungry.

This was exactly the case for Kloeber at that moment. He rushed to the cell door like a madman, gripping the doorknob tightly with both hands and shaking it vigorously. However, the sturdy door was as immovable as a fortress made of steel. No matter how hard Kloeber tried, he couldn't budge it even an inch.

Kloeber was certain that the delicious food emitting the alluring aroma was on the other side of the door, separated from him only by a cold iron door.

Kloeber pounded on the door with his fist and shouted loudly, "Is anyone there? Could you please open the door?" His voice was filled with eagerness and anticipation. However, after knocking for a long time, there was still no response from outside the door.

Kloeber's eyes gradually dimmed. He crouched down in despair, hugging his head with both hands, his heart filled with disappointment and helplessness. Clearly, he could smell the delicious food behind the door, yet he couldn't reach it no matter what. This feeling was more torturous than the most vicious judgment in the world.

Could it be that the queen was deliberately torturing him? Deliberately having someone place the food outside the door but not allowing him to eat it? A surge of anger and unwillingness welled up in Kloeber's heart, but more than that was a deep sense of helplessness.

Just when he was overwhelmed with despair, a voice as lovely as an angel suddenly drifted in from outside the door, "Do you want something to eat?"

When Kloeber heard this voice, it was like a traveler on the verge of dying of thirst in the desert suddenly seeing a clear spring. A glimmer of hope instantly ignited in his heart. Without hesitation, he responded loudly, "Yes! I do!"

However, as soon as the words left his mouth, Kloeber suddenly came to his senses, and his mind became completely clear in an instant. His expression immediately turned solemn, and he let out a slight sigh. "Forget it. No matter who you are, the queen has ordered not to give me anything to eat. If you give me food, no matter the reason, the queen won't let you off. So, it's better not to."

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

As he spoke, Kloeber casually leaned his head against the door like a seasoned sage who had weathered many hardships. "Adversity is an opportunity to reevaluate oneself, and difficulties are the cornerstone of growth. Thank you. I can't implicate you, so I won't eat."

It was unknown what the person outside the door was thinking after hearing Kloeber's words. In any case, after Kloeber finished speaking, there was a long silence outside the door. Kloeber quietly leaned against the door, awaiting the judgment of fate.

Suddenly, there was a sound coming from the cell door. Kloeber's head, which was leaning against the door, was jolted forward. A flash of surprise crossed his eyes. Someone was opening the door.

Kloeber quickly took a step back to make way for the door. He looked up and was stunned by the sight outside. Standing outside the door was none other than Elise! She wore a dazzling silver princess crown on her head. The gemstones inlaid on the crown sparkled brightly under the dim corridor lights, setting off her smooth and lustrous silver hair, making her look noble and elegant, like a fairy in the ice and snow, exquisitely beautiful.

She was draped in a white shawl as pure as snow, the color as if it were the most pristine cloud plucked from the sky, spotless and immaculate, as if an angel had descended to earth. A white dress with exquisite tailoring hugged her petite figure just right. The lotus-leaf skirt swayed gently in the breeze, adding a touch of liveliness to her.

Her bright eyes were like two translucent red agates, exuding a captivating charm and radiance that made people involuntarily lose themselves in them. A pair of snow-white gloves matched the white knee-high silk stockings, making her look even cuter and more charming, as if she were a little princess straight out of a fairy tale.

It has to be said that Elise bore a seven-point resemblance to her elder sister, Her Majesty the Queen. She was simply a smaller version of the queen. Kloeber couldn't help but sigh inwardly as he looked at Elise in front of him. At this moment, the system's prompt sounded in Kloeber's mind, "Identify."

  [Elise?Hesperd?Eldrid?Kemmer III]

[Identity: The third princess of the royal family of the Goreya Empire]

  [Occupation: Mage]

  [Realm: Archmage]

[Summary: The third princess of the royal family of the Goreya Empire, nicknamed Little Devil. She has an angelic and lovely appearance but a rather bad-tempered personality.]

"She's nicknamed the Little Devil?" When Kloeber heard the identification result from the system, he was immediately startled. A trace of vigilance flashed in his eyes, and he took a new look at Elise in front of him.

Elise was holding a plate of delicious food in her hand. The food on the plate was appealing in color, aroma and taste, making people's mouths water at the sight of it. A princess of such high status actually came to deliver food to him in person? Kloeber was filled with doubts and confusion.

However, Kloeber immediately became alert. The system's summary clearly stated that Elise was nicknamed the Little Devil. That is to say, she was likely to have a scheming personality.

People like this usually have a relatively high IQ and EQ and are good at acting. Moreover, she was a woman, and in Kloeber's perception, women are naturally born actresses.

"I'm kind of hungry," Kloeber nodded, deciding to first see what she would do next.

"I had the kitchen prepare these especially for you. Go ahead and eat them," Elise's voice was soft and sweet, like a gentle spring breeze caressing people's hearts. There was a tender smile on her face, and she looked like a sweet and cute girl in every way.

But Kloeber trusted the system more. As an intelligent system, it was impossible for it to deceive him in such a trivial matter. "Why are you being so nice to me?" Kloeber immediately put on a grateful look and replied in a halting tone.

Kloeber currently had a female appearance, and with this pitiful look, it was easy to lower people's guard. Kloeber thought to himself, Is she trying to act in front of me? I want to see what your true purpose is. He observed Elise's every move without showing any sign of his thoughts, waiting for her to reveal her true intentions.

At this moment, the perspective switched to Elise's side. As the third princess of the royal family of the Goreya Empire, ever since her eldest sister was crowned queen, Elise had been longing to indulge herself and get rid of the many rules and restrictions of the royal family.

She hated the cumbersome regulations of the royal family, the monotonous royal lady etiquette classes, and especially those teachers who always talked to her with their noses in the air and an arrogant attitude.

In short, she was extremely bored with everything in the royal family. She envied those free adventurers and longed to go out and explore the vast world like a brave hero. She loved excitement and was full of curiosity and yearning for all new things.

So, tonight, a bold idea suddenly popped into her mind. She was going to break someone out of prison!

"Because I've liked you since the first moment I saw you today," Elise replied timidly, pinching the tips of her fingers with both hands and showing a trace of shyness in her eyes, looking extremely bashful.

"Liked me?" Kloeber was immediately taken aback and thought to himself, Could it be that this woman likes women?

"So when I saw you being punished by my sister, I was really worried that you might be starving. So, I asked the chefs to prepare some food specially. I hope you don't mind," Elise continued. Her tone was gentle and ladylike, and for a moment, even Kloeber wondered if the system's evaluation of her was wrong.

"So, eat quickly. The food won't taste good if it's left out for too long," Elise said and quickly pushed the plate in her hand into Kloeber's.

"All right. Thank you, Princess Elise. Then I'll eat it," Kloeber thought that she probably wouldn't put poison in the food. After all, he was a slave of her sister, the queen. With this status, she would surely have some scruples.

However, Kloeber was too quick to be happy. Just after he had enjoyed the meal to his heart's content, he suddenly felt something was wrong. His head started to feel dizzy, and his body swayed involuntarily.

"I should have trusted the system after all," Kloeber secretly regretted in his heart. Before he could think any further, Kloeber fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
