4. Classes

The next morning, after a breakfast of glow fruit and water, with basic survival taken care of, it was time to focus on Nellie. The two spent the morning exploring the village, splashing in the water of the local stream, and snacking on more fruit.

As evening approached, Gemma remembered that the system that had greeted her when she arrived had said class selection would be available on her third day in Travalar. Hopefully, that would give her a solid next step in figuring out how to get back to Earth, and Nellie back in Mia’s arms. True to its word, another screen appeared when dark fell. It was a strange thing, the screen at night. It seemed to have a light of its own, but it didn’t illuminate the area around them.

Gemma read over the descriptions of the classes. Babysitter was a shoo-in, because she needed any edge available in ensuring Nellie’s safety, wellbeing, and happiness. The others were a bit more flexible. Technopath and Ember Mage fascinated her, just because they were so otherworldly. As cool as being a super powered hero would be, with power came risk. And Gemma already had a huge responsibility that was gurgling nearby.

She made her choices based on what she felt reflected her, and her current circumstances, best.

There was no turning back now.

Gemma read the descriptions of her skills. Universal language would allow her to communicate with all sapient beings if she chose to do so. Meaning she could speak in English (which it seemed no one spoke here) and no one would understand her.

The other skills were far more exciting, sort of.

Horrific Scream was useless and that fact made Gemma want to scream in the normal way. There was no way to shield Nellie if she used it. Covering her ears would do nothing to help. Hopefully later skills would be more flexible, or make Horrific Scream viable.

Her second skill was much more useful, thankfully.

With an arsenal of...currently one usable skill, it was at least a start on eventually getting back to Earth.
