140. A Hundred Years (Book Two)

A few more weeks passed and not only did Richard also finally reach Qi Refinement, but so too did my future personal guards.

They officially ‘graduated’ and were outfitted with armor in a similar style to that of the City Guard. Only they were also given spartan-like helmets.

I had to admit that it looked pretty good.

It made me consider getting a helmet of my own, but I decided to skip out on it. Anyway, with all the training completed and all the gear issued it was time to make their contracts.

“A hundred years…that is the length of this contract?”

I looked up at the man who spoke.

He was bald, around 6ft in height and had somewhat of a grizzly look to him. If I remember correctly, he was from Spain.

“Yes Carlos, a hundred years. There is a good chance all of you will reach the peak of Qi Refinement at the minimum. Which means your lifespan will have increased by a few hundred years by then.

“This position is a vital one, you will learn a lot of secrets. Things that can affect both myself and this City. It’s only right the contracts match that level of commitment.

“You will get paid sufficiently, and no resources will be spared in helping you gain strength. There is even a clause to ensure that your pay will increase with your cultivations.

“Of course, none of you are being forced to sign this. Please think it over as this contract will be backed by the system.”

As Carlos and the others began mulling over the contract, I just watched and waited calmly.

I didn’t even blame them for being wary of the deal. This was a hundred years we were talking about. Not a single one of them was above the age of 40, yet they now had to sign a contract that would bind them to me for a hundred years.

  That’s insane.

If it was up to me, the contract would’ve been for four years, since I thought that was pretty fair, but both Elder Zal, and even Greja didn’t fail to remind me about our increased lifespans.

Ten years could pass, and I would barely look any older.

A hundred years could pass, and I would likely look like I was in my early 30s.

It was scary to think about but at the later levels of Cultivation that concept was taken to some extremes. A few thousand years could pass in the blink of any eye for someone whose been alive for millions of years…

So, in comparison to that, signing a contract for a hundred years was just a small length of time.

The men before me took their time looking over the contract multiple times and I could almost see the gears in their heads spinning.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

It took a few minutes, but this decision was big, so there was no rush.

“Alright City Lord. I’ll sign your contract.”

It was Carlos who spoke up again, and very quickly the other men in the room followed suit. And before long contracts were signed with the system as witness and the men formed back up.

It was good that my office was big enough for everyone.

“Good. Go home for now, your exact duties will be discussed tomorrow.”

  Snap!

All ten of them quickly gave me a swift salute by doing the whole arm diagonally across the chest thing, paired with a slight bow of the head and left shortly after.

I didn’t ask or require them to do that all, but I think it was either Lirian or Eriog who made them do it.

Anyway, with that finally out of the way…I think it’s time to officially reach the mid stage of Qi Refinement.

It was quite simple really. It wouldn’t be like the mini breakthroughs I had in the Body Tempering Realm.

As I continued to refine my Qi and my entire body over the passing months, not only did I continue to grow in strength, but the purity and overall quality of Qi increased.

Now that paired with the robustness of my meridians increasing as well, will allow me to finally be able to extend and maintain Qi outside of my body.

I held my spear in my hands as I sat, and willed the Qi stored within my meridians to move to my hand, and from my hand to extend on to my spear.

It took some effort, but I was able to do it and before long a very thin layer of a silvery mist-like substance could be seen coating my spear.

What was interesting was the just barely noticeable specks of black that could be seen as well. That should be Infernal Qi I presume.

Of course, I didn’t stop there.

While the spear was covered in the Qi, I then willed my flames to wrap around it as well.

  I grinned.

The power wafting off the spear was unreal.

I didn’t plan on swinging it in my office but very soon I would get a chance to.

A Dungeon was spotted to the North.

  Far to the North.

In fact, a lot of things were spotted to the North.

Now that Richard, Nate, and even Brandon was all in the Qi Refinement Realm, they could handle things without me for a bit.

Of course, they weren’t the only reason I was alright to leave.

Jral and all of his brethren broke through to Qi Refinement all around the same time.

They had long since been at the peak of Body Tempering and were holding back on breaking through because of me.

I trusted Jrino and the Olirag Clan wouldn’t do something crazy like betray me, but I think it’s a good idea to ensure that the strongest members of the Government and powers in the City, at least matched them.

Of course, this was ignoring the Alchemist, the Blacksmith, Greja and Jrino. There was even that weird metal dude that mostly kept to himself. All of them were the actual strongest in the City.

Of course, Elder Zal was above all of them.

Either way, It would be a few years before any of us reached those levels.

Anyway, the Dungeon in the North.

We were fairly confident in being able to not worry about the weather at our levels of cultivation, but that was only in normal temperatures.

There could easily be environments that surpassed our ability to stave off the weather, and the person who found the Dungeon thought it would be one such place.

It was located in an extremely cold place far to the North where it was apparently always a winter wonderland as some might say.

A lot of snow and ice, everywhere, all the time.

Just that alone was enough to assume the Dungeon would likely be even colder, but not only was the name of the Dungeon the Frost Dungeon, someone actually went in it.

Unlike all of previous experiences with Dungeons, this one didn’t have a prompt to enter. It didn’t even give a requirement.

And even more weird than that, you could leave…at any point in time, whoever entered the Dungeon could simply leave. So, the person that ended up finding it didn’t try to enter, it was a complete accident on their part.

Thankfully due to the rules of the Dungeon they were able to come back safely.

Now it was my time to go in and see what it was about, and I was covered in Great Rabbit Furs from head to toe.

I think I looked quite good.
