Funeral of a Civilization Pt: 1

  Eldritch's P.O.V, Realm of Paradox

  ...

I had done it, I had made it with one final push to the hundred percent rate, It was important to note that technically it was only the completion of the basic level of comprehension. That did mean I could bond the Paradox of [Void Light], turns out that the name [Light of the Void] was meant to distract and challenge would be adversaries or in this case successors.

That realization is what caused the comprehension rate to jump up so much.

[Light of the Void] implies that the idea of light coming from the Void, the void itself being the space between levels of reality.

[Void Light] on the other hand was about Void coming from Light. Essentially turning something into nothing versus turning nothing into something.

Probably would give Kien a headache. Having bound the Paradox I felt a shift In who I was and what I am. I am the Light that turns into void I am the creation into desalination. Sitting in my private quarters I summoned Void Fire, or at least that's what I called it. Void Fire at the source normal flame, reds yellows, but as it rose the flame disappeared but was still their. The lower half of the Fire was able to burn but the lower half created an affect wherein heat and light was absorbed creating freezing darkness.

I know had to pick a name adjacent to my name that wouldn't sound, to edgy. Instead of going for the whole void part, I went with light or more accurately Lux the standard unit of measure for luminescence.

I would have to wait on altering the Honorable Tyrant to my success. Then I remembered, i could claim my own slice of Paradox of I killed a privateer captain! Aw man my own private island.

  ...

I saw a whole spew of System messages appear but I Ignored them I knew what they contained already. Eldritch or should I say Lux now had his Paradox, [Void Light]. Very nifty couldn't wait to use the Void Fire though how it worked would give a scientist a migraine.

The Giants had laid out a grand affair of feasting before the battle, smoked meats and stew along with casks of ancient alcohol they had uncovered. That happened a while ago, before I had even woken up. The week following they had built a large ceremonious ring with plenty of space to fight. The children had been sent away, to watch their family fall would be unnecessarily cruel.

Arrayed around me where the remaining adults of the Giants, I had forgotten how many their were but I knew their was two hundred and forty-nine in total. So I had roughly between 100-150 giants ready to kill me.

"Ready to start?" The King of the Giants asked his voice grave yet determined.

"Yes" I replied solemnly, when we both nodded the Giants formed up, their mages guarded in the back and the warriors arrayed in front like an approximation of a classical era shield wall. Ahead of the army was the King, even though he was aging his body sung of enough youth for one last battle.

I activated my racial Trait [Reflection of the Abyss]. My shadow bubbled like a boiling cauldron and a figure bathed in light rose from it. Almost exactly like me but his skin was pale and shallow. The rest of his body though brimmed with energy.

"What's Up Lux?" I asked as other me looked at me and the arrayed warriors.

"Pretty good, as you know, I stay back and summon and control the Taints as well as lob Void Fire and you melee?" He asked me and I thought about for while and it sounded good.

"Aight Bet" I replied before the battle truly started. I drew my great sword and began to engage with the Giant King. He brandished a great axe and a round shield to great effect. Ducking as his blade swung overhead and I slashed at his ankles.

I heard the roaring and cackling of flames and the sounds of shock as the Taints crashed into their lines. The system dubbed them as [Taint of the Burning Abyss] a misdirection no doubt Incase of 'interlopers' and voyeurs that may be watching, like a certain uncannily eyed sailor.

Returning to my fight I rose my shield high and I felt the Force for the blow and then the massive weapon slid off the curve of my shield and into the ground. I took the opportunity of his lowered height in order to strike at his hand.

Then I felt a gush of magical force and I sent skittering back. Looking I saw the mages gathered together under a single shared spell. Allowing them to mix their magics together for greater effects. Right now they created a wall of force around their melee combatants.

"Hearth Of The Void!" Lux Shouted and the a blast of fire and Inky blackness that spread cold blasted outwards from his hands. It acted like napalm from the old war videos. Yet the powerful flames where held back by a wall of Earth that stubbornly refused to switch allegiances.

Then I grasped outwards and twisted my Mana into a drill that speared through the rock and the Mages staggered back as I manged to lower the Wall of Earth long enough for Lux to get a few blasts off that turned half of the Effected Giants into nothing and the other half a blaze.

The King Rallied them together and filled in the gaps of the vaporized Giants who where now kicking it in Noble's Domain.

"Alright I'm Tuckered out" Lux Stated to me as he dropped the barrage of Void Fire. However the Taints kept coming, though they where generally mediocre for their level but hey near infinite number of cannon fodder am I right. Each Taint was essentially a ball of nothing, surrounded by shimmering light and sparks of fire and heat.

Pushing off I grasped my mana and used It to rain down rocks and earth from the ceiling of the cave. The Mages dealt with it easily enough but its main use was in distraction. With more to deal with they would eventually fall under the pressure.

Reengaging in combat this time I was battling the King and two spear wielding Giants that I had seen a few times. The two worked to try and attack me if I tried to evade the Kings attacks. All together a pretty decent strategy, my return was the fact I could summon multiple shields around my body. Currently I was battling them and the Mages for control of the Earth while Lux was busy harassing the troops while he saved up enough of his Eldritch Power to summon another gout of Void Fire.

  Lux's P.O.V Mortal Plains

  ...

I watched as Kien Battled the three Giant warriors to a stand still. At the same time I was infecting small shards of reality with my Paradox creating the Taints that surged forward. They mostly served as distractions as they harassed the warriors and kept the pressure off from Kien.

I forced a connection with Paradox and called upon it again as I channeled my understanding with the energies of Paradox to force the shift in reality. Another tremendous amount of Void Fire blasted out, in Paradox this would have been several times stronger but here In The Mortal Plains Higher Realm energies where hampered. The Mages summoned another push of energy to protect against the Void Fire.

They succeeded as Kien couldn't use magic while he was battling, reaching out I summoned a wave of Taint on the otherside of the shield wall. It was hard to control it from so far away.

Power rippled through me and disappeared all the same. A wave of Taint rose up and the Mages panicked as they held them off.

  Kien's P.O.V, Mortal Plains

  ...

Taking a spear thrust with my shield I knocked another aside and blocked the third with a [Force Field] then with a push and jump I ascended in the Air as they were distracted and slashed out one of their eyes in the process. Then the fight resumed, [Flow of Combat] allowed me to keep track of all of my opponents and what they were up to.

I felt a tremor as the earth yielded to me and I grasped the earth and filled it with my Mana.

Striking outwards I realized that I could no longer use my psuedo domain of Geomancy due to its connection to the Paradox of Roving Tides. Dammit as we began to win the Giants seemed to gain a second wind of sorts.

"[Kingly Right]!" And an aura rose above the King and power and Mana grew rapidly as he felt himself become even stronger.
