The Shawshank Redemption Chapter 22
"Everyone is their own god. If you give up on yourself, who will save you? Everyone is busy, some are busy living, others are busy dying. You're busy chasing fame and fortune, you're busy with the mundane tasks of life, stop for a second: has your brain been institutionalized? Where is your god?"
"The timid and fearful soul is imprisoned, hoping that it can make you feel free. The strong save themselves, the sacred ferry people."
"I have to keep telling myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are too bright, and when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty for their departure. I guess I just miss my friend."
"Some birds are meant to never be caged, for their every feather shines with the radiance of freedom."
"Hopes are lovely things, perhaps the loveliest of all things. Lovely things never fade."

Every time I think of these classic lines, Song Tang thinks of this uncrowned king in the history of world cinema, which shows us hope, freedom and friendship. Although it won eight major awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography at the time, it ultimately failed to defeat its peers "Forrest Gump", "Pulp Fiction" and "Interview with the Vampire". In the end, it was defeated on the surface and thoroughly lost to Hollywood's main character Forrest.
However, this film still has a high rating on IMDB, the most famous movie website in the world, with a high frequency of praise and ranking among the top, only slightly lower than the black film "The Godfather" in the world's film industry.
This is "The Shawshank Redemption", an uncrowned king in the history of world cinema. It shows us a kind of prison life.
The movie takes place in 1947, banker Andy is accused of murdering his wife and her lover after he discovers she was having an affair. He is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary.
Red was sentenced to life in prison for murder in 1927 and had been denied parole multiple times. He has become an "institution" at Shawshank, able to smuggle almost anything into the prison if you pay him enough. Whenever a new inmate arrives, the others bet on who will cry first during their initial night. Red thinks the weak-looking Andy will surely cry, but loses two packs of cigarettes when Andy remains silent. For a long time, Andy barely interacts with anyone. A month later, the first thing Andy asks Red to smuggle for him is a rock hammer, wanting to carve small objects to pass the time and saying he plans to survive the prison's regular inspections. Later, Andy also acquires a large poster of Rita Hayworth to hang on his cell wall.
One day, Andy and a few other inmates were out on work detail when he overheard the warden talking about his tax problems. Andy offered to help the warden with his taxes in exchange for beer for the inmates working with him; each inmate got three bottles of beer. As they drank their beer, Red speculated that Andy was just using this opportunity to enjoy a brief taste of freedom.
One day, during a cell inspection, the warden took Andy's Bible but didn't even open it before handing it back to him and telling him "Salvation lies within." However, the warden had no idea that salvation really did lie within. He was then assigned to be the prison librarian, where he wrote letters every week in an effort to get new books for the library. Six years later, his efforts paid off. After that, he started helping the corrupt warden launder money and also helped other guards with their paperwork.
A burglar was imprisoned for theft, coincidentally he knew the truth about Andy's wife and her lover's death. Excited Andy found the warden, hoping the warden could help him overturn his case. The hypocritical warden agreed on the surface but secretly killed Tommy (Andy's student in prison) who told him this fact, just because he wanted Andy to stay in prison to do accounting for him.
After learning the truth, Andy decided to gain freedom through his own redemption! Before acting, he left a mysterious message for Red.
Andy escaped through hard work, the tool for his escape was the "path of redemption" in that Bible, that small stone hammer. He took away the warden's money which was spotless and sent evidence of the warden's corruption and murder to the newspaper, the warden killed himself after being exposed.
When Red got paroled, he found the gift Andy left for him and overcame his psychological crisis after parole to find Andy. The two friends finally met with a tearful ending.
This is the main plot of "The Shawshank Redemption", a brand new prison life. A film that makes people sink from the surface of their senses into the depths of their souls, a classic film with countless stunning and thrilling moments.
On the plane flying back to Los Angeles, Song Tang stared at the adapted script of "The Shawshank Redemption" in his hand, and couldn't help but feel a little dazed. Song Tang really didn't expect Stephen King to give him the adaptation rights so easily, it was almost unreal. Thinking about how he met with Stephen King for less than half an hour before they reached an agreement, Song Tang couldn't help but laugh as he recalled the scene.
"Hello, Mr. Stephen, nice to meet you. I am Song Tang from Datang Film Industry."
"Oh, nice to meet you, Mr. Song. I'm also delighted to make your acquaintance." Stefan said with a friendly handshake, "Oh, let me guess the purpose of your visit, Mr. Song. I think your company sent you here for the adaptation rights of my 'The Shawshank Redemption', right?"
"Yes, Mr. Stephfen, the purpose of my visit to you this time, as you said, I don't know what you mean?" Song Tang asked along with Stephfen's words.
"Heh heh, Mr. Song, I think you should know that I'm a writer, but I have to be responsible for every book I create, otherwise it would be blasphemy, and even God wouldn't forgive me for that, do you understand what I mean, Mr. Song?" Stephen defended himself.
"Yes, Mr. Spielberg, I think I understand what you mean! However, before that, I'd like to show you the script I've adapted. If it's not to your liking, I'm afraid I'll have made a wasted trip today." Song Tang said with a hint of regret as he handed over his adapted version of "The Shawshank Redemption".
"This is Mr. Song's adaptation!" Steven took over the script handed by Song Tang with some confusion.
"Yes! Mr. Stephenson, it took me three days for this." Song Tang replied.
Although Steven was skeptical, he still opened the script handed over by Song Tang. As time passed, Steven became more and more excited, and finally couldn't care about his image anymore. He pulled Song Tang's hand and said: "That's right, this is exactly what I want to feel, Song, you are a great screenwriter, you are even better than me."
Upon hearing Steven's words, Song Tang was also delighted, thinking that this basically represented the end of the matter. Seizing the opportunity, Song Tang asked: "So what about the issue of adaptation rights?"
"Haha, Song, it's yours." Steven said happily.
"Thank you, Stephen." Song Tang said sincerely.
"Haha, don't be polite, I believe that after your film is released, it will bring my prison story to a climax. I think I'll have to say goodbye to the prison afterwards." Steven said jokingly.
"That's well-written, Mr. Stefan, I thought of inviting you to the premiere of the film, don't know if you'll have time then." Song Tang invited excitedly.
"Of course, because it's my work!" Stefan replied with a smile.
Since the purpose of this trip had been achieved, Song Tang politely declined Stephen's invitation to stay and they exchanged contact information, confirming the time for the premiere, after which Song Tang left the place where he had stayed for less than half an hour.
After leaving Stefan's place, Song Tang did not immediately set off to return to Los Angeles, because for this trip, Song Tang really didn't know when it would be completed, and therefore also didn't know what time the flight would be.
Fortunately, it's not the peak tourist season now, so the air tickets are not very tight. Song Tang was lucky to buy a ticket for the next day. Song Tang, who was already very tired, didn't go around randomly and just found an inn near the airport to rest early.
