(Slime’s POV)
I sipped from the handmade bowl that I made with clay the rabbit stew. With a river nearby, I can always have water to make things like this, and with a deposit of clay around, I can make a kiln to bake pottery.
So, I made a pot from clay, as well cutlery from wood. I’ve been also counting the days from since I came out of the cave for the first time. In that time, I’ve upgraded my house, and it’s now a bigger hole, deeper too, with only the roof outside of the ground. There’s also a chimney, as well an firepit.
With that, I can cook inside the house, where I am right now. The hole now has two meters of depth, with stairs made of mud bricks to the entrance. It has been more than five months that I have came out of the cave for the first time. And now, there are my stats, with a new slot since I acquired something new:
I’ve acquired this title last month, when I soloed a pack of twenty wolves. Recently, I have been on a wall. I can’t up to level one hundred. I’ve deciphered most of this status table and abilities. For example, the abilities that I have are divided in types.
Natural abilities that a Slime would have are called Traits, things that my new body acquires naturally under certain conditions, like shrinking and stomach storage. And it isn’t something that I gained naturally, like the ability to craft something or create an ability like Stone Bullet, it’s classified as an Ability.
They are divided in the ranks, from the lowest, beginner, apprentice, advanced, expert, teacher and master. With training or practice, they rank up naturally. I also know why I am not leveling up. Like the bats in the cave, I can’t level up because of the prey I’m hunting.
Until a certain point, what I hunt stops being a threat, and only what can threaten my life can up my level. Not even the wolves can threaten me anymore. Because of that, I need to find a more vicious animal to kill.
I’ve also learned more about my body. Fire is my bane, it evaporates my body it I have extended contact, while water is my jam, being the thing that I can live solely off. After finishing the stew on the pot, I get up, going out of my home, taking the form of a wolf made of slime, I run to the north.
I run for some time, feeling every smell on the wind, with my enhanced nose. Of course, my eyes are still those of a cat, now mixed with the eyes of a hawk that I ate months ago. With that, I have the ability of zooming my vision.
I soon notice something different on the forest. Unfamiliar markings on the trees, and a smell of an unknown animal around, marking its territory. I see… something came from the mountains to the north.
On the horizon, from the top a rock, to the north, I see a mountain range spanning from end to end on the horizon. I have a bad feeling about those mountains, as if there is something dangerous on the other side.
So, I have the impression that there are strong and dangerous creatures on the forest at the foot of the mountain range. The creature that’s here… is wounded. I can see blood here and there, all from the same creature. The tracks are similar to that of a bear that doesn’t exist in this forest, but it’s too big and has some small differences.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Taking my human form, I start my tracking, looking for the creature. I eventually find the thing, a hulking bear, with a ginormous body. It’s massive, even while not standing on it’s hind legs, has three meters.
While standing, it must reach five, almost six meters. There is a wound on it’s back, and strange white marks on its black fur, like tattoos. I can feel it’s mana, and there is a lot. This thing… is strong. Most likely, it isn’t a normal animal, but a monster, like a wolf that was the had of a pack that I killed two months ago.
Eating the magic core of that wolf, that was the size of a fingernail, gave me three leaves, making me get stuck at 99. If I kill this thing… I’ll level up to one hundred!
I need to be careful about this. I wish I had steel wires to make a trap to at least cripple one of it’s legs by cutting on the joint. Thanks to that wolf, I created a new ability, Stone Stake, an advancement of the Stone Bullet.
It’s the exact same as the Stone Bullet, the difference is that it shoots a stone stake, more resistance and with more piercing power, capable of penetrating tough hide without many difficulties.
I have to take this thing by surprise, so, from here, from behind the bear, I transform my arm into a barrel, and load a stake. Aiming to it’s slightly wounded left hind leg, I aim to it’s joint. Gathering as much air as I can, compressing it as much as I can, I release it, making a loud sound.
Before the bear can react, the stone stake destroys its knee, piercing completely it’s leg, making it roar with anger and pain. I hide, killing my presence, gathering more air. While the bear looks around in rage, I move to the top of a tree, hiding my mana.
This time, I pretend to get close to the head, and hit like a pile bunker, and destroy the brain. The bear starts to pant heavily, his movements starting to get heavy and sluggish. My paralysis is starting to take effect.
As the bear falls down, I jump from behind him, falling to his head, my hand transformed into a thick barrel, with a big and heavy stone stake poking out, spinning and compressed air prepared to explode and destroy the skull of the bear.
I fall down, releasing the air at the same time I hammer down the stake, at point-blank range of the head. The bear never saw me and died when I split open his skull. His blood flew as the stake was launched forward by the compressed air. I didn’t need to eat the core to level up. As the bear was way stronger than me, and I killed him with a surprise attack, I leveled anyway.
Well, it’s a bit obvious that I will choose the Mimic Slime, since I can use all my previous abilities, and as well mingle with the humans. I immediately choose the Mimic Slime, and my body loses its shape completely, returning to its original size, turning as big as the bear below me.
I completely lose control of my body, although it isn’t trashing around out of control. It looks like me when I am sleeping. While I look at my black body, it turns a bit more transparent, and shrinks a bit, changing its size permanently.
After one hour, I regain control of my body.
I check my status, but they are unchanged. Before doing anything, I decide to eat the bear. As I digest it, I decide to leave the core in my stomach, since I could probably use this for money. The core of this bogger is way bigger, of the size of a fist.
After I finish eating the bear, I try to mimic it. Immediately, my body changes by itself in the exact format of the bear, with black fur and white markings. My field of view also goes back to being of the eyes of the bear. I have to focus to use my mana sensing. Great, I loved it!
Turning back on my fake human form, that is now extremely detailed, still without face, I go back to my home. For some reason, I can’t turn into a human, even if I know all the details of the human body. I also can’t change to the forms of the creatures that I ate before I evolved.
Well, no problem, I can eat them all over again. I should find a city, I want some human contact and finally get around this world.
