Chapter 1-Role of a King

Chapter 1. Role of a King

“So how many years was again, 2 years back or so.” Jade asked happily as we relived memories of the

  past.

“Jade it was 1 year back, do you remember you got blown off during the first wave and landed on your

face. Hahahaha that was a priceless moment.” Niki said laughing out loud at Jade.

Celebrating our last time in the game since the company decided to shut it down, we were on top of the

Flying Labyrinth Citadel, Osirus. Our very own guild base we created from the ancient class’s core. And

our dream to see it made and flying was our guilds aim. And finally it came true the day we slew the

beast, after that nearly one year was spent to build the labyrinth city. But upon its completion the

company decide to shut the game down.

“So how about a cheer, our leader and Ruler of the labyrinth City, King Noctis.” As Dan said that

everyone held up their drinks in the air including me.

“Dan stop calling me that, I am no king” I said that but in return Io countered.

“Didn’t we all agree that you are the king when we finished the place? I remember the majority of us

agreed except you, so stop complaining king-san. Just accept your fate for one last time”

  Sighing dejectedly I gave up.

As the party reached its climax I silently went out of the room and headed outside to the balcony.

Reaching the place the looking at the sky left me mesmerized. It looked very beautiful, as the stars and

  moon shined at their brightest.

While adoring the sky, unknowingly Fei, Elric and Val joined me at star gazing.

“It’s very beautiful and lively unlike the city” said Fei breaking the silence.

“Well, what do you expect the city is inhabited by NPCs.” Val replied.

“They are only programmed to walk around in set of patterns only. Unlike the castle guards and the

labyrinth guardians and other NPCs they don’t have much purpose.” Elric also added.

“Still I find it quite nice. So what do you guys plan on doing here after” saying my thoughts and

questions left them quite baffled as they thought what to say.

“So that’s where you guys are. We looked all over for you.” Said Rin and the rest coming at us. And

silently joined us and looked at the indescribable scene before us. As the time fir shut down got closer.

“So it finally comes to an end. I pretty lucky to have ended up with you guys.” Voicing out my thoughts

broke the silence between us and looked shocked.

“”What are you saying you idiot king”” everyone shouted.

“This is not the end and we expect you to lead us in the next game plus we can still meet up in the real

world.” Rigel saying his thoughts took me by surprise yet the others nodding their heads telling me to

accept my fate. “HAHAHA, thank you guys for everything you have done for me and the guild. Now it’s time for us to

leave, so see you in another game.” Saying those words my guild members thanked me and one by one

logged out only leaving me on the balcony.

Now I truly was alone in the whole city. Leaving this game probably was the hardest thing I could do,

since I spent half my time in here it started to feel like home.

As my mind wandered around I started walking around the whole castle, looking around checking the

conditions of it. Each time something familiar pops into view, I get disheartened.

Walking around the inner castle the guards showed up more frequently, performing their actions as they

are programmed. And each time they saw me the stopped and bowed until I left their vision. They wore

black clothing underneath and had grey armor plates covering their body, looking like a knight. And on

each of their left shoulder a black cape was draped adorned with our guilds insignia. They were

supposed to protect the city in case the enemy players broke through labyrinth. But none had reached

  so far.

Passing numerous life less guards I arrived at a particular door, a door guarded by numerous knight

guards with spears. A door which greatly differed from others due to unique carvings on the door. It lead

to the throne room. The place meant to seat a king yet I never bothered to since I wasn’t a true king. But

tonight was the last night I would come here so might as well take a look.

Walking towards the door the guards on each side of the opened them for me. Revealing an elegantly

carved throne placed upon a fleet of stairs and on the floor a red carpet placed which led directly to the

fleet of stairs. The whole room gave of a metallic silver luster, but the elongated windows from either

side of the room, shone moon light through it giving off a heavenly feel. As I walked towards the stairs I

saw four people, below the staircase. They are four Elite Knight guard commanders, unlike normal

system generated NPCs they were created my some of my members, each unique and can defeat

players up to Titan Class player as they granted with special skill that some players would kill to get. Each

Elite knight guard equipped with Titan Class armor and weapon unique to each NPC. Moreover the color

of each cape draped over their shoulder differed from green, red, gray and azure with our guilds insignia

  embedded in them.

As each of them noticed my presence they kneeled wordlessly while facing down. Walking towards the

throne and looked above the guard’s heads, a panel indicating their names shone. On my right Zephyrus

with azure cape and Boreas with the gray cape, on my left Notos with the red one and Euros with the

green one. Each name made me remember something, there creators Rigel and Dan. They created these

NPCs and placed them to take command of the guards during enemy attack.

Sitting on the throne I commanded them to leave since their purposes were no longer needed. Satisfying

my mind with the memories of the past I finally had to leave the game, all our hard work and the guild

made were going to return to nothingness. But I had no power to stop that from happening, even if I

was one of the strongest players. It’s true that fantasy can’t stop reality from happening. Yet I wished

that all this was true and this world was real, that I had a life here. A life that was without magic and

fighting was boring as hell. Without excitement I had a hard time living.

Even though I knew that my wish cannot be granted I hoped for it as I logged out for the last time ever.

  Or so I thought.

  …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

As I woke up, I stared at an unfamiliar ceiling, one that didn’t belong to my room. Then getting up and

looking around I saw a familiar object that was draped at the wall, the insignia that represented a

certain guild, our guild Osirus. Looking at the insignia I rattled my brain to find answers.

All I know that is currently I am in a huge room that would be the size of my whole apartment furnished

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

with expensive furniture. But as I was passing by a mirror in the room, I hung my mouth open, it wasn’t

me staring at the mirror rather than that at least it wasn’t my real body. However I recognized the

person in the mirror, a man with a decent build with gray hair and golden irises with a good looking face.

He wore a black long sleeved shirt with long black trousers. And with a dark gray overcoat. Also pieces of

armor like the shoulder piece which held the white cape in place on shoulder and the gauntlets and

shoes were worn. They were metallic silver in color.

While looking at person in the mirror I immediately knew who he was, it was me. Well technically the

avatar that I was in the game called REALMs. My avatar Noctis, was currently replaced with my original

body. Hanging my mouth, open I realized the fact that I was still in the game. But how could I enter the

game if the game was shut down last night, if not still. Being bombarded with new problems without any

  solutions my mind ran amok.

‘Calm down, I shouldn’t panic and contact the GMs or the administrators.’ Thinking that I moved my

hands diagonally in midair to open my console to access the system. But nothing happened, I tried again

  but no change.

‘Okay let me see, first I somehow entered the game last night even though the game should be shut

down, and next I can’t access the console and there’s no manual way of opening it hence cant contact

anyone, but I do have a skill called message but can’t use it without the console. So that’s my current

state right now. HaaaaaaH…..’ Sighing deeply I thought about my current state.

  Knock, knock…..

“Come in” I answered without giving a second thought who was, until a few seconds later the door

opened and a blonde maid entered the room. Wearing the usual maid outfit she gracefully walked

towards me and stopped about 1.5m and bowed to me. As I stared at the stunning woman entered the

room my mind stopped and I could only stare at her. But my frozen state was broken by her next said

  words.

“My lord, breakfast is served. I have come to escort your majesty to the dining table” said the maid with

  a dead pan face.

“Oh….okay, I will be right there and there is no need for the escort.” As my frozen mind started to work I

could nearly keep a poker face as I answered her.

Answering her question, she nodded, bowed again and then left the room.

‘What the freaking hell was that about, how the hell could a NPC talk.’ Screaming in my mind. I knew

instantly that was one of the NPC that we created to look after the castle. After all Fei made the

uniforms as well. I remember her saying how cute they would be when they are finished or so.

Giving up I sat on one of the many chairs in the room. Silence was all I heard, but that helped me a lot,

although few chirps could be heard from the open windows in the room. Getting up from the chair I

walked up to one of the windows in the room and saw the sun in sky. Feeling the warm air and the smell

of fresh air calmed my mind which was in turmoil. Then I looked to the city, it was livelier than ever.

“Eh……..Eh….EHHHHH. The people in the city they aren’t walking in a pattern anymore and they look

more alive. Calm down, Breath in and out. It’s all just a dream.” Refusing to acknowledge the results I

closed my eyes and took large amounts of breaths. Then again I realized that I was breathing like a living

human. Heck even had beating heart.

But this proves something that I knew deep inside me. I, well my avatar Noctis was alive. As well as all

the NPCs that is in the city. A small smile escaped my face, for truly it was happiness for me. I somehow

got transported through a game got my soul swapped with my avatar then the whole city came to life.

But was I truly in the world where the game was played. If not where am I, and if this is Osirus then are

all the guards loyal to me, and can I use magic and what about my items in the inventory can I still get

  them.

As numerous problems appeared, I found one answer I have been reincarnated to my avatar Noctis.

Resolving and composing myself I went out of the room and headed towards the dining hall, since

breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But I had one last thing to do before that, a guard was

on patrol duty as I was walking through the halls.

As he bowed in front me I stopped my tracks and said in an arrogant less and imposing manner.

“Summon Notos, Zephyrus, Boreas and Euros to the throne room, in 30 min”

“By your will, you’re Highness” the guard said while still bowing. I walked away headed to the dining

hall. Prioritizing the things I need to confirm are the NPCs loyalty and my magic and the state of the city

and its protection. Haaaah….. This is going to be troublesome. Sighing dejectedly on the inside I kept

  walking.

  …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….......

30 minutes later in the Throne room.

As I said to the guard, they entered the room in exactly 30 minutes. I sat on throne, as the four men

entered the room and kneeled at the edge of the staircase.

“My Lord, you summoned us?” Zephyrus spoke breaking the silence in the room. As he talked I sensed

respect and loyalty in his voice.

“Rise” Saying that in an imposing voice, acting like a king without showing any weakness. Each of them

stood up as the words left my mouth.

“Yes I did. But before I tell my purpose of summoning you four, let me ask you four a question. What do

you know about the world?” I asked. Each commander looked at me while answering. Each of them told

me there back story without a single word missing.

“My Lord, why do you ask us this question?” with a hit of curiosity Euros asked me.

“It was to confirm something, now my purpose for summoning you four. First Zephyrus, Euros and

Boreas secure the city, be on the lookout for anything suspicious and be ready for any imminent attack,

if the ‘wall’ is broken. And Notos summon the Cardinals from the labyrinth and tell them to meet me

here in hour, I shall go to the Cathedral.” As I gave my orders to them, they looked quite shocked. And

the other guards inside the room shuddered by the words. Since this place hasn’t been breached ever

since its creation. But the reason the normal guards trembled was by word Cardinals, the rulers of the labyrinth. Each of them held immense power and rare skills up to the Legend class. Even these four were

in Legend class, but the cardinals were rarely seen up the city.

“My Lord, what do you mean about an attack if the wall breaks, and why summon them?” Notos asked

  hastily.

“It seems we have a problem, but as everyone is gathered I shall reveal them, but do not worry these

are just precautions.” Saying that I got off from the throne and headed towards the door.

“”As you command, My Lord”” Four of them said together while kneeling as I climbed down the stairs.

  • Leaving the throne room and the tasks to them, I headed towards the cathedral, the heart of Osirus.
