Chapter 10
If Regulus is left unchecked outside, he is likely to be attacked by those former Death Eaters who have not been imprisoned.
Although those original individuals escaped the judgment of the Wizengamot, how many of them truly remain loyal to Voldemort?
To resurrect Voldemort, former Death Eaters would do anything in a frenzy.
Dumbledore understands all these principles, but what about Regulus himself?
Is he truly a stubborn Death Eater loyal to Voldemort? Dumbledore felt a bit troubled; is it appropriate to let him into the school?
If Regulus is left outside, perhaps the secret of his resurrection will attract those Death Eater fanatics, but if Voldemort is truly resurrected because of this, it would be a loss.
On the other hand, if he is allowed into the school, the school will naturally provide him with the best protection, but this year is the time when Harry Potter just started school.
what if he himself is a fanatical Death Eater? does he have any ulterior motives regarding the little savior?
"Well! I can agree to your request, but currently, there are no vacancies for professors."
After contempting, Dumbledore still felt it was better to keep Regulus Bck under close watch.
"I can be a teaching assistant for any subject; I believe I won’t disappoint any professor."
Regulus was not very confident about being able to enter Hogwarts, so he was surprised that Dumbledore agreed on the spot.
"Then let's go back to school together!"
With that, Dumbledore turned and left the Wizengamot, followed by the judges who had been watching the spectacle.
Many people were whispering, believing that both Regulus Bck's request and Dumbledore's response showed that both parties had considered all possibilities carefully.
For the current Regulus Bck, being able to maintain an aristocratic demeanor, especially the meticulous thinking in his speech, was still quite pleasing to the wizards from ancient families.
Regulus Bck first took Kreacher out, instructing it to take care of the old house, and then followed Dumbledore’s steps back to the headmaster's office at Hogwarts.
While waiting for him, Dumbledore was contempting how to arrange Regulus Bck's position.
The members of the Order of the Phoenix were naturally the first choice, either Professor Minerva McGonagall from Gryffindor or Professor Severus Snape from Slytherin.
When Dumbledore and Regulus Bck stepped into the headmaster's office, he had already made up his mind.
As soon as he sat down, he began eating various candies, and Dumbledore gestured for Regulus Bck to also try the Cockroach Clusters.
Looking at the pile of blindly crawling cockroaches, Regulus Bck naturally knew that these were just moving hard candies.
In fact, eating a cockroach candy was not a problem, but the items in Dumbledore's office were not considered.
Dumbledore liked to add a little extra to the treats; perhaps only the savior had the honor of eating them without extra ingredients.
Potions like Veritaserum, while considered precious in the wizarding world, were not uncommon, and there was a potions master at Hogwarts.
"I think you might be able to become a teaching assistant for Potions css, after all, Snape's Potions css requires a lot of materials to be prepared for the students."
"It would be my honor, Headmaster."
"By the way! Mr. Bck, since you have become a part of Hogwarts, please just call me by my name, no need to call me Headmaster like the students do."
"Alright! Headmaster."
"Now let’s talk about your remuneration."
"Headmaster, you are too kind; I am actually here seeking refuge, so I won’t need any remuneration."
"I still hope you call me Dumbledore."
"Yes, Headmaster! No problem, Headmaster!"
"……"
The door to the headmaster's office opened, and Snape, dressed in bck robes, walked in, his expression as grim as ever.
"What is it, Dumbledore? I am brewing potions, and if what you have to say has nothing to do with me, I won't mind preparing a special potion for you."
This was truly awkward; only Snape would dare to speak to Dumbledore like this in all of Hogwarts.
"Severus! Let me introduce you; this is Regulus Bck, who will be your teaching assistant from now on."
Dumbledore has already decided to give Snape this honorable task, even if it means poisoning his own snack.
"I don't need a teaching assistant." Severus Snape finally noticed that there was an extra person in the headmaster's office.
It wasn't that he was deliberately ignoring Regulus Bck; it was just that Regulus Bck, with his inherent ghostly presence, had such a ck of presence that as long as he wasn't directly in someone's line of sight, even Dumbledore would often overlook him.
Observing Severus Snape's reaction, Dumbledore secretly breathed a sigh of relief, realizing he wasn't the only one who felt this way. However, this made him even more curious about Regulus Bck's physical condition.
"Severus! You must understand, Regulus Bck has just been resurrected; he needs a safe pce."
Dumbledore was essentially telling Snape the reason directly, and it was a sufficient reason.
Having been a double agent for both the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix, Snape immediately thought of many things from this statement, and as he expanded his thoughts, he realized even more: Regulus Bck really could only find refuge at Hogwarts in the entire wizarding world.
Thus, Regulus Bck entered Hogwarts as a teaching assistant.
The next day at breakfast, Regulus Bck appeared at the staff table, sitting right next to Severus Snape.
Two people dressed in the same bck attire gave off different impressions.
Regulus Bck's bckness conveyed a sense of coldness, pride, and nobility, a quality that undoubtedly came from the Bck family.
Severus Snape's bckness, on the other hand, exuded a sense of darkness, introversion, and gloom, primarily due to his life experiences.
When the two sat so close together, an inevitable comparison spread among the students, and even those who originally disliked Snape generally agreed that both of them had their own charm, although Regulus Bck appeared younger.
"Who is that?"
Harry Potter asked his companion while pointing at Regulus.
"That's the new teaching assistant, Regulus Bck; he's currently in charge of Potions css," Hermione said while sipping her pumpkin soup.
"He and Snape are a perfect match, both so dark, dressed all in bck," Ron remarked with a look of disdain. Regulus Bck's gaze suddenly swept across the Gryffindor table, lingering especially on Harry Potter for a moment.
"Oh my god! He heard what I just said."
Ron felt a wave of fear wash over him; that gaze was just too cold.
"Don't make a fuss; if you shout any louder, the professors will hear you," Hermione said, directly tapping Ron on the head with her spoon. She then became nervous herself because she seemed to have received an appreciative gnce from Regulus Bck just moments ago.
"If I’m not mistaken, I just saw a warning and an appreciative gnce," Harry Potter said, stiffly turning his head, no longer daring to look at the new teaching assistant at the staff table.
"Didn’t he give you any look?"
Ron asked Harry, somewhat recklessly.
Harry also found it strange; it seemed he had been ignored just now, which was quite frustrating.
"I’m certain he didn’t; he completely overlooked me."
After scanning the Gryffindor trio with his gaze, Regulus Bck began to carefully observe the other students from the four houses.
As for Hermione, being more suited for Ravencw, her courage surprisingly outweighed her knowledge, which could be considered a twist of fate. If they had interacted after getting on the train and she had disclosed some information, it would have made Ravencw naturally more appealing to the studious Hermione.
As for Ron, Regulus Bck couldn't find any liking for him at all. Among the Weasley family, Ron's talents were the least impressive; he could only hold his own in wizard chess. Perhaps he was more suited for Hufflepuff.
