Chp 42: Jonah

When we got back, the group was still arguing.

“We have not completed our true objective,” said Nero.

“Yes, we have! We saved Myra!” yelled Atesh throwing his hands up in the air.

“She saved herself,” said Niran, placing a hand over Atesh’s shoulder. Atesh stopped squirming.

“End of the road,” said Ruckus, crossing his large arms.

“I think Nero is correct. The oracle wanted us to go to Ice Temple,” said Datha, her eyes gazing into the small flames of the fire.

Myra and I approached them. I was still holding Myra’s hand in case she disappeared again which she was prone to doing every ten or so seconds. Her new ability was an annoyance more than a help right now. If I didn’t feel her hand, I could swear she was gone again and that bugged me, seriously. She was trailing slightly behind me.

“What if they don’t like my decision?” she asked.

“They can take the high road then. We have a job ordained by the deity of this place, right? Besides, we can't leave those kids to suffer any more than they already have,” I said, shrugging.

She stopped walking and I turned to her. “You’ve changed,” she said smiling and I smirked.

  “What about Datha?”

“What about her?” I asked curious.

“What if she doesn’t want to come?” she sighed.

“Not gonna happen. Mention kids to her and she’ll move heaven and hell to help but if not she can stay with the oracle until we’re done,” I said.

“What if she wants to stay on Sapherine after this ordeal?”

I sighed. “She hasn’t given Earth a fair try yet,”

“It’s not like she can return once she chooses,” she quipped and I winced. I knew that but I really didn’t want to lose my twin forever. We had been separated once already.

“Hey,” she said, bringing a hand to my face. “You don’t have to make that choice now but it may be a possibility is all I’m saying,” she said.

I stared at her and nodded. She dropped her hand blushing. “Well let’s tell them before I turn invisible again.”

I smirked and squeezed her hand before continuing to the group just ahead of us.

I whistled to get their attention unfortunately I didn’t get only their attention.

The leaves parted and auburn hair flashed. “I knew our destinies would clash once more,” said Arriana as she sauntered into the small clearing. Behind her were Pallas, Ilias, and Boulder.

The others shut up and stood ready for a fight. I glanced at Myra and noticed she had gone invisible. She squeezed my hand before letting go. I wondered what she was up to. Arriana had reached me and I sighed as she closed personal distance. I pushed her back.

“You’re invading my personal bubble,” I muttered.

Arriana looked confused. “I don’t see a bubble,” she said, gazing around me for the invisible bubble.

“It’s a figure of speech. Please get out of my personal space,” I said.

Instead, she clung to my arm like some leech and I rolled my eyes. Being good-looking had its downfalls...like this, clingy females. Katilia was the same way and I had to remind her I wasn’t upholstery...or her boyfriend. She thought she could own me but no one could.

Arriana cried as her hair was yanked and she stumbled backward.

  “Oww! Stop!”

“Did you stop when I asked?” came Myra’s disembodied voice. She was angry. Arriana was sent to the ground tripping on what I guessed was Myra’s feet or leg. She was dragged into the ground by her hair and Myra became visible. It seemed she couldn’t hold her invisibility in intense emotions.

“Eat dirt, your Highness,” she said before stepping over Arriana’s back and stalking off into the trees towards the group as Pallas, Ilias and Boulder chuckled at Arriana’s fate. What a team! I headed towards my group and walked over to a fuming Myra.

  “You okay?” I asked.

“Yeah. She takes out the bully in me,” she said grinning, and I smirked.

“I saw that. Did she help in tormenting you,” I asked, and she nodded.

I glared at Arriana who was starting to get up and was wiping the dirt from her face. “She might revert me to a bully,” I muttered, and Myra chuckled shaking her head.

“Not you. You just started having a clean record. I don’t want you to revert to your nasty self because of her. I on the other hand have a grudge to settle with Miss Princess,” she said, crossing her arms. My lips curled.

“I think we’ve traded personalities,” I muttered as I walked over to my sister, who was busy in a conversation with Nero of all Kin. It looked like they agreed to go to Ice Temple. It was the others we would probably be letting go. They were deep in conversation with the other arrivals, and I figured that’s where they truly belonged, with their friends. It was nice knowing them, but now things were getting serious. We were going into treacherous territory where the Morgan roamed and then who knew?

Myra didn’t know the location of the mines so that was going to take some time to solve. Then there was the whole debunking the council and saving the kids so that would probably take years. I sighed and got ready for the long haul. If that’s what it took then that’s what it took. I didn’t have a real family to get back to but Myra did. What she was doing was selfless as always. That was the main difference between us. I guess that’s why she was the savior and I was just her friend tagging along for the ride. Well we had both been dropped here and I knew a bit more about this place than her so I guess I was more of a sidekick? I called the others over and they all sat in a circle like before.

“Here’s the deal,” I began. “Myra and I are going on to Ice Temple. You can join us or return to the oracle. From here on out shit gets real and I won’t blame you if you choose to go back to the oracle. The Morgan are mean suckers to deal with and that’s where we are heading,” I said.

“I’m going,” said Datha and Nero nodded. The others were torn in agreement as I knew they would be.

“Do we really have to battle the Morgan?” Atesh asked, shaking.

Myra stepped from the shadows and Arriana squeaked. “You! Arrest her!”

The others glanced at each other with uncertainty. Did they now notice they were on opposite sides of the fence?

Before a fight could break out Myra disappeared and I felt panic grab ahold of me until I felt a soft hand against mine.

“I’m here,” she whispered and I sighed, squeezing her hand. She squeezed back.

“Where did that behemoth go?” asked Arriana, stringing her bow and aiming it where Myra stood. I shifted in front of her.

“Woah! Put that away! Myra is part of this group whether you like it or not,” I said.

“She’s a dangerous escaped prisoner of the council. She is to be taken back if found! Now hand her over,” said Arriana, putting out her hand.

I glared at her. “No, she’s my friend.”

“It’s a Council decree!” she screeched, hurting my ears.

“Screw your damn council!” I screamed. I felt Myra’s hand on my hair running her hand through it. I calmed down and crossed my arms glaring at Arriana.

“We’re going to Ice Temple. Follow if you’re coming,” I said and began my trek down the small incline same as Myra had done before except this time there was no going back as Myra reappeared beside me and squeezed my hand.
