Pilot

Alaric was running through the woods as fast as he could. He hadn’t signed up for this. Yes, he chose the Mage Class but he didn’t expect to be thrown right next to a pack of starving feral dogs.

He wasn’t an expert on dogs or anything, but even he was pretty sure they had to be one of those exotic breeds. The kind they feed raw meat. He cursed his luck for running into carnivorous dogs first.

He turned back once more, through gritted teeth he chanted and cast the Mage Class awarded skill again.

  “Mana Sphere”

Unfortunately, for him he couldn’t withstand the recoil from compressed mana and he missed again.

Fuck!!! He cursed he couldn’t afford to miss more times. He couldn’t keep running like this. He wasn’t necessarily tired but he also couldn’t outrun them and only god knows what else might be lurking in the woods. Or what might be attracted by the almost carnal barks and growls the dog released. He needed to kill them quickly and to do that he needed a solid position and preferably higher grounds, so he came up with a plan. It wasn’t perfect or well thought out, but it’ll have to do for now.

He found a tree with a relatively lower, smaller branch and grabbed it and pulled for a swing upwards. The dogs still coming after him. As soon as he gained balance on the branch, resting his back on the tree trunk, he steadied his right arm, his left had beneath the right for support, he chanted “Mana Sphere”. A shiny blue ball of mana with the size of a soccer ball slowly emerged and shot at the dogs.

It blew the dog’s head clean off. The remaining dogs were immediately startled and lost some of their previous ferociousness. Alaric couldn’t help but observe that the mad dogs had some sense left in them. Unfortunately, he it would not change anything and frankly, he didn’t care. He had already started chanting another one.

It crashed into another on its side. This quickly snapped the last one to reality. It subconsciously tried to retreat, but no way Alaric was going to let it escape scot-free. Though the dog was quick and was getting further. Alaric didn’t like this one bit and didn’t know what he was doing before another mana sphere condensed but this was a much bigger one, at least the size of basketball and he fired with so much force even his arm recoiled upwards slamming the tree. Aside from small pain he could shake off, he was alright.

The same couldn’t be said about the dog though, the mana sphere went in from its rear end and left through its front before sizzling out. Leaving a gore, of legs, head and blood and body paste.

He finally had some breathing space. To look at a familiar transparent screen.

He had some time to calm down and think. A lot of people were really screwed. Less than fifteen minutes ago, he was just going about his day regularly, how in hell was he suppose to guess his life would be screwed over. Everything was normal until the System’s appearance and notification.

[Planet WBY-2375 has initiated summoning successfully.]

  [Welcome to the multiverse]

[All living beings on Earth are now under the system]

[Prepare for the teleportation to tutorial 00:04:59]

The next thing remembered through his panic and anxiety was being teleported to where he could only describe as a white space as he could only see endless expansion of it.

  Before him was the system screen which read;

  [Choose wisely]

He had instantly chose Mage class, he did not know why though, but he did not regret. He was instantly teleported here. He received another nori cation.

  [Welcome to the Tutorial.]

[Killing other contestants grants XP for used to Level up]

  [Objective: Survive for three years]

He was in awe of the beautiful scenery before him. He had nearly forgotten about the possible danger here bcause deep down though, he didn’t take this seriously. Didn’t believe thus was real, until he heard the dogs growl and try to get a jump on him.

All his initial excitement and awe instantly died, and now he was starting to feel real concern for himself and others thrown into this unexpectedly.

His reminiscence finally over, he took a look at himself. He was still wearing the same clothes he wore on Earth, track suit and sneakers. Not really a good fit for hiking through the words.

He had a thin fabric magic robe and a magic wand that looked like it was made from dried wood, the only pieces of equipment he had on himself.

  [Equipment

Magic Robe: grants minimal increase in mana regeneration]

  [Equipment

Magic Wand: grants minimal increase in aim accuracy]

He got down, dusted himself and felt ready.

“I’d like to choose a new Skill”

A list appeared before him, only the system interface

  [Active Skill

Mana Shield (F): every Mage needs a basic protection skill.

Forces one’s mana into a thin layer of protection above their skin.

Higher proficiency and higher Intelligence Stat achieve greater effect]

  [Passive Skill

Mana Veins (F): the guide and path mana follows through one’s body.

Marginal increases the effectiveness of all mana related skill. Marginal improves casting time.

Higher proficiency and higher Wisdom and Intelligence stats achieves greater result]

  [Active Skill

Mana Arrow (F): an arrow made of mana with high piercing power

An offensive skill that foregoes area of damage for piercing damage

Higher proficiency and higher Intelligence achieve greater effects]

The three skills seem to be all perfect skills for beginners. If the dogs had caught up with him, he would have been dog food so Mana Shield was essential. Mana Vein was second highest priority since it literally empowers all of his future possible skills. Mana Arrow has high piercing power but wasn’t an urgent need since Mana Sphere could still pierce the dog like hot knife through butter.

“I choose the Mana Shield.” He experienced the same freakish feeling where the system input knowledge into his mind directly and that caused him to shiver.

He finally opened his Status Window.

“…Ahh…Shit I didn’t know I had an extra skill point.” He could have gotten the Mana Vein Skill. Then he snapped out of his disappointment. Then thought, that isn’t be what I should be worried about, his race is definitely weird. He was most definitely human. So, he used Analyze on it and the information appeared before him.

  [Race

Unawakened Human (F): a human born with an ancient, powerful and majestic bloodline. To awaken the bloodline and claim its potential as your own, you must prove your worth.

Perks: +3 to all Stats, +1 Skill point]

He blinked and checked it out it out once more and it still remained. He parents were fully human? However, when next he sees them, they would definitely do some explaining to do and that would be a very awkward conversation to him. Considering he had been estranged from the family for a while.

Only now did this lead him to think, where the hell did the tutorial drop his family and friends. Hopefully, not right in the mist of hungry dogs like him. He needed to find his friends.

He also needed supplies like water, food and shelter. He was in the middle of a rainforest that can’t be so hard to find, but he also had to travel in the forest and in order to do so safely, he had to be strong. He had to level up. He definitely loved the feeling of being strong after all it was nice.

He peeked at his title’s effect

  [Title

??? Descendant: Trigger your bloodline, survive your tribulations, evolve yourself, become a true ??? descendant and you will be rewarded appropriately. Fail the tribulations and you die, ??? have nothing to do with the weak.

  Effects: 10% Wisdom, 5% Intelligence]

That sounded ambiguous and dangerous, but he found himself smiling and excited for what was to come. But the part about triggering his bloodline, didn’t exactly mention how and it didn’t explain what the tribulation he had to survive was. He reread it a few more times but it wasn’t like it was changing anything other than just wasting time trying to deduce something he had little to no information about so he couldn’t just keep stressing about it and just closed his System Window.

What he did noticed was the amount of information and speed at which he processed it had definitely increased. That must have something to do with his stats, his Intelligence stats was his best guess.

Anyways, he had to move, he needed water urgently. This was a rainforest or at least a forest with humid soil so there had to be a water source nearby. Or at least that was his best guess. Not like he was into hiking or geography.

He just kept moving in a straight line. He had walked about twenty minutes but he didn’t a single living time. Suddenly, he heard the sound of running water. He almost impulsively ran to check the water source. Then, he remembered where he was and decided it was safer.

He finally drew near enough, and peeked from behind a tree. Not so surprisingly, the were a bunch of hippos, about seven. He sighed. He was definitely in for a bumpy ride.

He decided to cast two Mana Sphere one with each hand but as he tried channeling both well, it failed cause his mana kept moving only one direction, toward his right-hand side that was holding the wand. If he couldn’t cast two spells at a time, he was definitely screwed. How would he fight a herd of hippos on his own?

He suddenly remembered accidently altering the size of his Mana Sphere on impulse. If he could recreate that sensation, then he could win. Small problem though, how was he going to do that. He chuckled at himself. How did he even use Mana Sphere in the first place? He simply willed it. So that what he did.

A small chant escaped his lips.

  “Mana Sphere”

This time though, he didn’t release it immediarely he started to push for it to get bigger and it did. Then he pumped more mana into it and it kept growing. Until he felt it might blow up in his face so he immediately aimed it towards the unsuspecting hippos.

It denotated right on one in the middle. Incapacitating three others with it.

[You have slain a Hippopotamus (Level 3)]

The remaining three instantly charged at him. He froze foe a second, he hadn’t had much of a battle strategy.

  “Shit”

He hadn’t thought this through and didn’t think he would freeze up when his life was in danger. If even one of those hippos hit him, he would be dead on impact or at best as good as dead.
