99 - The Perfect Take

The director, ignoring his drool, snatched a pair of binoculars, peering into the distance.

A massive serpent, easily dozens of feet long, slithered out of the woods, its body undulating, leaving its mark on the ground and through the underbrush.

Above, a flock of eagles circled, their eyes fierce, their talons as sharp as knives, glinting menacingly.

  "Aroooo!"

Hundreds of wolves gathered on the riverbanks, their howls shaking the forest.

Wild boars and other creatures were also present in number.

Deep in the woods, there was even a hint of larger predators lurking.

"This..." Tears streamed down the director's face.

  Tears of joy!

When he wrote the script, this was exactly the kind of scene he'd dreamed of filming.

Endless, ferocious beasts hunting the actors!

He couldn't believe his dream had become a reality!

"Camera crew, get those animal shots!"

The director's voice boomed through everyone's headsets.

The raft, battered and worn from countless crocodile strikes, finally drifted through the dangerous stretch of water, aided by the current.

The cast members looked back in amazement, realizing that the three on board were disheveled, with tears and snot smeared across their faces and bodies.

  "It's over!"

  "Finally over!"

  "I survived!"

The actors were crying in each other's arms.

Just then, the director's voice crackled in their headsets.

"Actors, get ready! More obstacles are coming from the prop department!"

The three actors were stunned into silence.

"You son of a bitch, this isn't acting, it's attempted murder!" Hayden raged.

"I quit! I'll give the money back. Director, please have mercy on me!" Leon pleaded, kneeling on the raft, his eyes wide with terror.

"Director, I'll do anything, just let me out of this!" Ava begged.

The director ignored the actors, diving headfirst into the next series of shots!

"Alright, everyone, let's get ready! Anyone who screws this up is going in as the next star!" the director roared.

Hearing this, the entire crew tensed up, focusing intently on their drones, afraid to lose focus.

  "Boom!"

The serpent, spotting the raft drifting closer, flicked its tongue, and charged through the water like a tank, straight for the raft.

  "What is that?!"

"Holy crap, are we really filming a movie? How can there... how can there be a snake that big?!"

"Mommy, I don't want to die!"

Overwhelmed by the sight of the massive serpent, the three seemed to forget their peril, staring blankly at it!

They snapped out of it when the serpent lunged into the water, heading straight for them!

The three frantically grabbed the oars lashed to the raft, paddling furiously.

Even the petite Ava was creating a blur with her oar.

They were pouring everything they had into it.

The raft miraculously began to move upstream against the current.

"Wait, hold on... stop paddling!" Hayden suddenly yelled.

"You want to just sit here and die?" Leon shouted.

"Are you blind? Look up!" Hayden snapped.

Leon and Ava looked up and froze.

A group of crocodiles was eyeing them hungrily not far ahead.

  "Paddle back!" Leon yelled.

Hayden shot back, "Are you brainless? There's a massive snake behind us! Where are we going to go!"

"Stop arguing, what are we going to do!" Ava cried.

"Jump in and swim to shore, maybe we have a chance!" Hayden said.

Before the words were even out of his mouth, wolves emerged from the bushes on both banks.

The water was also starting to fill with piranhas.

"Never mind, forget I said anything," Hayden wisely shut his mouth.

Suddenly, sharp, piercing sounds came from above.

  The three looked up instinctively.

The eagles swooped down, their talons tearing a hole the size of a fist in the raft.

  "Gulp..."

The three swallowed hard, their scalps tingling.

They could only imagine what it would be like if those talons hit them.

  Hayden collapsed onto the raft.

He really didn't know what to do.

A giant snake ahead, a pack of crocodiles behind, wolves on both sides.

They couldn't escape even if they had wings, and the eagles above.

"Guys, let's just sit here and die," Hayden said with a wry smile. "At least... at least not many people get to die like this. It'll be a unique experience!"

Ava broke down completely, wailing, "I'm too pretty to die!"

Leon looked defeated, "Are we dying for our art?"

In the time that followed, the three experienced more than most people do in a lifetime.

The serpent struck the raft several times.

Each time, the raft seemed about to fall apart or capsize.

But miraculously, it held together each time.

The eagles seemed to have glaucoma or cataracts, their attacks constantly missing!

Although they were physically unharmed, the actors were terrified.

One second they felt they were about to die.

  The next, they were fine.

But before they could even recover, another attack came, and they felt like they were dying again!

Even the strongest person would crack from that.

Ten minutes later, the raft finally drifted out of the range of the animals, into safe waters.

  "Great!"

  "Perfect!"

  "Everyone, that's a wrap!"

The director breathed a sigh of relief.

  The crew also relaxed.

As the work wrapped up, the crew started chatting excitedly.

  "That was an amazing shoot!"

  "Seriously, the actors were great!"

"Yeah, I was really getting into it, especially the last scene where she broke down, it was amazing. The expression and emotions were so on point, you couldn't see any flaws!"

Hearing the discussion, the director was eager to edit all the footage and show it to his professors.

He knew that his professors would be blown away by the actors' performance!
