Chapter 4

The sounds of a TV could be heard as Kouki’s eyes opened slightly, everything hurt, he felt cold…and more than anything he felt helpless.

  Cough Cough Cough

“Ugh…” Kouki groaned, laying on Saki’s lap as she dabbed away at his sweat with a cool cloth.

“There there, it’ll be okay.” Saki Soothed him, doing her best to put on a comforting smile for him.

“This is worse than normal…his fever hasn’t even gone down yet. What do I do?” Saki panicked internally, racking her brain for some kind of solution.

Suddenly, she felt a hand on her cheek causing her to notice a smiling Kouki below her. His hand gently stroking her face as he smiled comforting at her.

“I’ll…be okay…” Kouki stated, his voice raspy and barely understandable.

It didn’t have as much of an effect, but Kouki’s eyesight wasn’t clear enough to notice as Saki spoke.

“You rest, I’m going to get some medicine for you.” Saki stated, getting a nearby pillow and placing it under Kouki’s head in place of her lap.

Kouki groan at the loss of his favorite pillow causing a slight smile to graze Saki’s face. She quickly put on some reasonable clothes and headed out the door, being sure to lock it tight.

“You never know…” She thought, as she began the trek to the nearby store.

“Thankfully it’s not too late, but I’d better hurry.”

The neighborhood they lived in wasn’t the best, but it was the only one that didn’t ask questions and was close to her part time job. Not only that, but it was relatively close to a nice clinic that was able to provide care to her Kouki. All in all, it was a nice trade off but she did find it bothersome that the showers weren’t at all private.

“I’m happy I splurged on that lock for our room, while there haven’t been crimes here I don’t wanna let my guard down either…” Saki thought to herself, as she entered the drugstore.

“Welcome back, I take it you’re in need of the usual?” The clerk asked, earning a nod from Saki.

“Sorry to hear it, but I have to tell ya that the price went up for this particular brand…”

“What?” Saki questioned in surprise, not believing what she heard.

“Yeah…apparently the owner fought hard to try and lower the price, but…” the clerk let the sentence hang in the air for a moment, but the ending was clear enough as it only brought a level of despair onto the young girl.

“How much more is it…?” Saki asked hesitantly, which caused the clerk to sigh.

“Almost 2 times what it was before.”

This almost caused Saki’s heart to drop, the very notion of what was the cheapest drug that helped her Kouki rising to almost double was almost laughable if it weren’t so devastating.

“I barely have enough, but rent is due soon…” Saki thought, doing mental math in her head to figure out a way to achieve what she needed.

  “Maybe…”

Saki shook her head at even the thought, her face becoming determined.

  “I’ll take it, thank you.”

“Huh? Are you sure?” The clerk looked surprised.

“Yes, regardless of what I do it won’t change what’s happened so I just have to work harder so it’s not an issue in the future.” Saki stated matter of factly, causing the clerk to sigh and a smile to appear on his face.

“Alright little miss, gotta give it to you, you’re definitely a stubborn one. No wonder the owner likes you so much.” The clerk chuckled, getting the medicine prepared.

This caused a smile to form on Saki’s face, she had a sense of victory filling her body and despite what may come she knew for a fact that she could face anything. It only took a moment for everything to get done, and soon after the transaction she headed home with her head held high and a new confidence in her steps.

“I don’t know what happened, but I know that whatever that feel was it was a new step in our lives.” Saki mentally spoke to her self as she entered their apartment.

“A new promise, and a new life is going to start tomorrow. A life where I won’t let any inconvenience influence me again, and I will face any obstacle with my head held high.”

Saki soon found herself preparing the medicine and a glass of water for Kouki, sitting beside him as he was breathing heavily.

“Kouki, Kouki wake up sweetie I have your medicine.” Saki gently shook him awake moving his head up with her hand to make it easier for him to take his medicine.

Kouki opened his eyes slightly, as he allowed Saki to move him onto her lap smiling as she did.

  “Now open wide.”

Kouki did as he was told, and soon after he had taken his medicine without issue with only slight resistance as the medicine was more than a little bitter in his mouth.

“Ugh, I hate the taste…” Kouki complained, bringing a chuckle out of Saki.

“You seem better…that’s good.” Kouki commented, smiling despite his fever still not calming down.

“Things are going to change, I just know it and I will work hard to make sure we will never have to worry.” Saki declared, stroking Kouki’s hair in comfort which resulted in Kouki sighing in comfort as he reached to touch her hand holding it gently.

“Then I guess I have to work harder too.” Kouki stated, chuckling gently but ending in a small coughing fit.

  “You don’t-”

“I…want to.” Kouki interrupted, taking a breath to make sure his voice came out clearly.

“We…look out for each other. No matter what…”

Saki squeezed his hand, smiling lovingly at Kouki as she kissed his hand.

  “I love you.”

  “I love you…”

“Hehe, I love you too Saki.” Kouki’s voice came to Saki’s ears waking her up immediately.

“Huh, you’re awake?” Saki asked excitement in her voice as she looked him over with her eyes.

“Yeah, I woke up just a bit ago…what happened to me?” Kouki wondered, as he rubbed his head as if doing so would cause the memory to appear to the forefront of his mind.

  LAST NIGHT

“What happened to him!” Saki questioned angrily, however both Celina and Magus clearly had no idea as Kouki’s face became more heated and almost looked red.

  “The healer.”

“Huh?” This caught Celina’s attention as she gathered herself.

“The slave healer you told me about, please get her as soon as possible.” Saki begged, lifting Kouki into her arms with a grunt whilst looking him over once again.

“His clothes…they look so similar to his normal Idol clothes but…how?”

“R-Right, guards!” Celina called, still shocked from what she saw.

“After that the guards escorted us to this room, luckily the healer was able to fix you up.” Saki finished, reaching up to stroke his face lovingly.

“With much difficulty mind you…tch, you should be grateful.”

The new voice caught Kouki’s attention, causing him to look around Saki to see a rather unexpected sight.

The girl had silver hair, almost the color of the actual mineral and with it sharp red eyes that seemed to glow with disdain as she leaned against the far off wall. Her outfit didn’t leave anything to the imagination either, being tattered scraps of clothing that barely covered her athletic build. If Kouki didn’t know any better he wouldn’t know the difference between a demon and a human.

“That’s her?” Kouki asked, earning a nod from Saki as the demon scoffed at the attention.

“Be grateful, I just saved your life kid.” the demoness snarled, earning a look of ire from Saki.

“You, shut up.” Saki uttered bluntly, her cold tone nearly freezing Kouki’s heart.

Suddenly, the demoness found her self unable to utter another word. Struggling a bit before resigning to her fate, crossing her arms with a scowl on her face.

“She seems…rough?” Kouki stated, rising up from bed with little issue.

“She’s a demon, according to Celina she’s stronger than she looks so it’s best to keep her on a tight leash.” Saki stated bluntly, making an unsettling feeling go over Kouki but he knew that she was right in a sense so he did his best to push that feeling aside…for now.

“So, did the princess tell you why I passed out? I’m surprised I woke up feeling so great despite how I felt last night.” Kouki stretched, causing Saki to stiffen a bit which caused a look of confusion to form on his face.

“What’s with that reaction, was it bad?”

“It…was tough to say the least, you really do push yourself too hard you know that?” Saki muttered, causing concern to form on Kouki’s face as he met her at eye level.

  “What happened Saki?”

Saki sighed, reaching up and holding him close to her chest.

“You’re magic level was past anyone in this world, according to Celina at least.” Saki answered honestly, causing confusion to once again show on Kouki’s face.

“From what we witnessed, and from the accounts of more than half the staff that was nearby your abilities not only purify most of if not all the castle but healed a number of soldiers that were otherwise near death.” Saki explained, a look of shock appearing on Kouki’s face.

“Not only that, but you also seemed to enhance a soldier that was within the effected range training with his sword. Your Skill, is exactly what it sounds like: Buffing Magic - God Tier.”

Kouki was speechless, looking at his own hands as if doing so would allow him to see the events unfold through them. He sat on their bed, not saying a word as Saki crawled towards him and held him close.

“You should be fine now, according to Celina and Magus there are times where the ceremony can trigger the subjects skill to activate. They suspect that due to your sickness you passed out from over exertion.” Saki finished, bringing Kouki down to lay on her lap stroking his hair comfortingly.

“Damn…so what happens now?” Kouki asked, looking up towards Saki.

“Well, Celina should be sending someone up to give us some breakfast. After that, she’s going to find us some instructors before we officially announce our arrival to the people.” Saki went over their plans, making Kouki chuckle.

  “Why are you chuckling?”

“Hehe, it’s hard to believe that it sounds like you’re going over my agenda for the day like any other.” Kouki continued to chuckle, gaining a small smile from Saki as she kissed him lightly on the lips.

“Let’s get dressed, you should see the clothes you made with your magic.” Saki stated, surprise coming over her as Kouki shot up in surprise.

  “My magic did what!?!”
