Today, a class regarding monsters is being taught, the topic? Monsters, one specific type. "So, today we will be covering devouring monsters, or devourers for short, monsters who have consumed a great warrior, mage, archer, priest, and many other types." The professor teaching takes a moment to draw a rather crude wolf upon a piece of paper, before pinning it up to the wall behind him. "So, for this example regarding these fascinating monsters, we will be using a wolf, so far this is a regular wolf, nothing has made it... greater, yet. But now..." He takes up another piece of paper and draws a small stick figure with a pointed hat and an arrow pointing to it and places it to the top right of the wolf. "Now, we have a mage here, since their typical lack of armor due to... frankly foolish traditions- ah, forgive me, my own opinions do not take precedent here. Anyways, mages are often the type to be slain and eaten by these animals and monsters, which does not necessarily lead to them becoming more intelligent, but many beasts gain their first taste of intelligence with this." He draws again, now a wolf with what look to be glowing particles coming from it after the mage. "So here it is, the beast has gained something from that mage, it could be the ability to cast spells, to see mana, some basic control over mana, or its simply become especially intelligent. Many scholars argue what might cause each of these changes to happen, but most agree that is has something to do with the person, it has yet to be discovered what, but I'm sure we'll see someday."
The professor now draws a more... armored(?) stick figure, meant to be a warrior with the arrow, and then an armored wolf after the stick figure. "I'll gloss over this, but of course this works the same, generally these monsters always gain some intelligence, but from those who have not focused on learning it tends to be less intelligence, it's still nothing to scoff at, but it is worth noting. Of course they have the traits of those they devoured too." He takes down each of the pictures and sets them on his desk. "Let's cover some of the more special parts of these monsters now, the changes in what can be described as personality, in some cases of devourers they begin living up to their name, heavily. They become completely consumed by that desire it seems, that many wind up charging into a town and being slaughtered because they couldn't resist their gluttonous urges. It's yet to be discovered WHY they become possessed by that, but some of the top scholars of the century have said that it's either due to the sudden intelligence they gain, the power, or the person. On that note let's cover what is believed to be the cause of their newfound strength too, some people have gave out theories that the souls of the one slain is what gives them that power, it's harshly contested, and there are conflicting facts on both sides, so for now we'll skip it, but it's worth nothing if you want to look into it on your own."

"So... what else is there to cover... ah, right, I may as well finish off on that last part, there is a very rare chance that devourers can last almost their entire life without succumbing to madness, but it's exceptionally rare, the very few times its happened have been... exceptionally devastating as I'm sure you all know." He looks down for a moment before continuing. "Well let's carry on, not much time is left I believe, so we'll cover a few edge cases. Devourers who have consumed many smaller weaker warriors, is it possible? Yes, but it's generally concluded one needs to be still rather strong for it to awaken in them, and when studied in captivity it was found they immediately went mad almost every time. Devourers from other monsters? No, for some reason monsters and animals seem to be unable to trigger it in eachother, it has to be a human race, vampires despite their contested status can be consumed to create devourers, though it seems to have a higher rate of madness, and-" A large thud comes from the door to the room. "Ah, that's it then, I had hoped to cover a little more, but that seems to be it, well this class is dismissed, please take your things with you."
