Chapter 010 – Religion, existential crisis

  POV: Victor Sterling

After that, a creeping silence entered the chat. We were all looking uncomfortable. We all knew what the last subject was and how it rubbed me the wrong way, but time to talk about the elephant in the room, me. More specifically, the fact that I am worshiped in the world at large.

I broke the growing silence with the grace of a jackhammer, “Well no two ways about this but, fuck me I am a god now. How are we going to handle this, as you guys wanted to be my subordinates again.”

Straeddas spoke his mind first, “Sir, I think a loose handed approach would suit you best. Give the priest some guidelines but leave it mostly alone.”

“Unfortunately, you are going to need to have the biggest say in this. Before we were cut from the vamps, we learned that the worship of one of the god players altered them slightly each year. Empyrea for example has with each passing year embodied more and more of the idea of healing,” Zellora explained.

“So, I should decide on an idea to be the core of my worship because it can start affecting me?”

“Yes,” Zellora said. “We don't want to lose you again.”

I sighed. This was not going to be easy. What did I want to be? What should I be to still be me? My brain then did a 180.

“Wait, my divine class is different than what the others have. Could that help me?”

Xodox answers me, “Unfortunately, that throws a whole new set of problems as it is an unknown now. I'm only drawing on the experience of the training masters of the Forge, so if it is merely a modifier change then it will be similar. I don't mean to overstep here but we would need the class name to be any sort of accurate.”

I think for a second before saying, “Sure, you are my partners on this journey.” With a Wave of my hand a Jewel of Status Sharing appeared on the table. Placing my hand on it my status came to view thanks to an illusion enchantment I added to the regular Jewel of Status.

I was mildly surprised that my name on Earth showed up in my status.

“That's... um that's a class alright,” Chlora almost whispered.

“That explains things in our status,” Queendrabia added.

  I asked, “Explain?”

“Well, me and my brother both got classes like 'Child of a True Divine'. We had previously thought it was something due to who ever abandon the nest you got us from.”

“Huh. I mean I did adopt you guys in the game.”

“Um I guess to add to it I got something similar, but I really am not comfortable sharing the name but it does mention this 'True Divine',” Zellora mentions.

  “Same.”

  “Same, here too.”

Everyone eventually came forward about a similar class all relating to 'True Divine'.

Straeddas concludes what I was thinking, “So all of us have a class that mentions a 'True Divine' and it sounds like a True Divine Being had given you everything or at least a lot, with you being an Inheritor and all.”

Madam Ruze asked a question, “What is your race?”

“Um it should be Half-vampire Half-elf,” I said before switching to show my race.

Race: Nascent True Divine Being(Half-true vampire Half-true elf)

“What the...” my mouth remaining slack.

Plexi after the shock whore off, “That makes it official, doesn't it. He is a god, not a fully realized god but one none the less.” Her innately synthetic voice adding to the pragmatic edge of the statement.

  I broke, “I can't deny it. I can't deny it.”

“Hey!” Zellora held my chin to look in her eye, “Snap out of it. You are you no matter what is on you status. You are You.”

I looked into her eyes for a while before my senses came back. Of course I was me, that is what mattered. Yes I am a True Divine or what not, but I was still me.

“Thank you. Thank you, Zellora,” I whispered.

I need to stop, stop being overwhelmed. Yes it is a lot to take in but there are people that depend on me, that care about me. Breath in, breath out. After all of these meeting are out of the way, I need to meditate or something to sort my brain out.

“I guess the first thing to get out of the way is I am younger then everyone here. I am only 32 years old. The game Emberheart only came out 6 years ago for me. Yes I was one of the first to join, but I am not some old sage with oodles of wisdom to share,” I confessed.

“Don't worry dear, we kinda' knew. Plus you do have far more wisdom, as you put it, than you think,” Ruze's motherly tone leaking through.

“Yea, I guess.” Like bolt inspiration came to me, “First tenet, humility. Second tenet, learning. Third tenet, understanding. Fourth tenet, teaching. Last tenet, expression.”

As I looked up, smiles came from my now family. Yes this was going to be a hard path for me, but I am not alone. They might not be on my path but they are next to it helping me and rooting for me.

  POV: Zellora

Holy shit. Holy shit. He is here. He is here and needs me. I am so thankful for my race's natural poker face. I would so be redder than my dress. I know he is confused and overwhelmed but it is him. Even more so then the glimpses the illusion me got.

Will I be happy just to be his number two? Just his assistant? No. Can I tell him how I feel? Oh hell no! What if I scare him off. No, I need to take it slow. Hell, I'm a succubus. I should be able to make him fall for me. No. I don't want that. He is not a schmuck that I can just twist around my pinky. It would destroy what I want. But I need to. Before her, before that angelic woman takes him. But how... but how.
