The Hero is Not Coming - Chapter 143

Ariadne got up and spit blood on the ground while looking at the hole in the wall; some soldiers ran towards her to see if she was ok, and the staff inside looked at her from the windows of the mansion; she took a deep breath and looked at the soldiers stopping right next to her.

‘Are your highness ok?’ One of them asked.

‘I’m fine. There was only a disagreement. Don’t worry; you can continue to do your work.’ She smiled.

‘Oh… Ok, if you need anything, it will be our honor to help Your Highness with anything.’ He saluted her.

Ariadne walked toward the mansion, and the soldiers around saluted her. Those inside saw her walk and clenched their fists like they were mad at something, but couldn’t put their finger on it. The anger faded away as she got closer, and with that, they got back to their work.

‘Alon would have killed me if he could, but he didn’t even say anything as you were about to snap my neck, so that is why I kicked you in the face, fair?’ Edmund spoke while Ariadne entered the room again.

‘You are stronger than when we fought before. That is interesting, but I understand why you did what you did. Sometimes you make me do things like these.’ Ariadne tries to clean her dress.

‘Edmund, I’m sorry for not speaking on your behalf; it is just that if our goddess wants to do something, who am I to be in her way?’ Alon shrugged his shoulders.

‘Did you just shrug at the fact that you would let her kill me? What is going on?’ Edmund looked at Ariadne with a confused expression.

‘I thought I used the same strength I had always used with you, peasant. Don’t blame our future, General. That was on you for talking like that when I’m grieving.’ She continued to clean her dress.

‘Fair enough, but still putting everyone in one basket without giving them a chance is the same everyone did with the Chatzi, so it would be a good idea to give them a chance to explain themselves; that is all I’m asking.’ Edmund nodded to Ariadne.

Alon crossed his arms and nodded, agreeing with what Edmund said. Ariadne looked around for a moment, seeing the destruction she had caused, and gave a deep sigh.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

‘Fine, let’s not be what they are to go above, but I want you to write a plan on how to implement that system you talked about so that we don’t need nobles anymore, because that we will not there is only a need for me to be on the top.’ She turned around and walked away.

Edna was outside, peeking at the talk. When Ariadne left the room, she received a smile and a gentle head rub from Ariadne.

‘Come, I need to change clothes.’ She continued to walk.

‘Yes, your highness.’ Edna followed behind, smiling.

Still inside, Edmund saw the head rub Ariadne gave Edna and looked at Alon in complete disbelief as Lieutenant Colonel also saw with a smile on his face. He was surprised by Rita coming up and entering the office.

‘I get death and Edna a rub on the head. Make it make sense.’ Edmund shook his head slowly.

‘She is a cute maid, and you give our Goddess a simple headache.’ Rita spoke as she was hugging Alon.

‘Yeah, simple as that, Edmund.’ Alon kissed Rita’s forehead.

‘Are you guys going to make out in front of me? Is that what is happening here?’ He looked at them, confused.

‘I’m just a wife giving her husband a loving hug, nothing more. I see how some maids look at you and how you talk to them. I should be giving you a lecture.’ Rita put a finger on Edmund’s chest.

‘What? I’m just talking to them; don’t make this about me, Alon… Back me up here.’ Edmund looked at Alon.

‘You are way friendlier than you should be with them. The duchess also knows that. Why do you think she locks you here with her?’ Alon looked at Edmund, confused.

‘I have things to do and fix, like that thing there, so excuse me.’ Rita kissed Alon on the cheek before heading out.

‘Are you kidding me?’ Edmund shook his head.

‘What? You should find a wife for yourself. You are already at that age.’ Alon turned around and walked away.

Edmund stood there, looking for Alon to get out of the room. Still, after giving a quick laugh, his thoughts focused on what had happened, for what happened today confirmed that her actions were volatile and that it was a good idea to make the rules. The surrounding people don’t care what she does as long as she does, which is dangerous. Still, he wondered if she would change her behavior with him with time, because it is obvious that she is a different person when talking to the people who see her as a God.

‘I didn’t know the Archduke well, but he looked like a good person. This was a dangerous move from the kingdom, but again, they don’t know about Ariadne. I wonder how many I will be able to save.’ Edmund talked to himself as he walked out of the office.

As he walked down the hallway, people looked at him curiously, making him uncomfortable. However, he didn’t care; he ignored everyone and went straight to the kitchen, where the chef pointed at him with a knife in her hand.

‘What happened to your neck? I don’t think that is natural.’ She had a worried look.

‘Yeah, that is bad. I think you should see Eliza, Edmund.’ A maid who was there had a worried tone.

‘Is that bad? Let me take a look.’ He got a shiny tray on the sink.

He was taken aback by the color of the bruise on his neck. Strangely, he wasn’t feeling any pain, but it looked bad. It was dark blue. So he returned the tray to the sink, waved at the people in the kitchen, and left quickly for the front door.

‘She is so dangerous.’ He smiled and gave a quick, nervous laugh.
