Chapter 7: The Film Company That Came Knocking On My Door

Chapter 7 The Film Company That Came Knocking On The Door

Nicole Kidman sat on the sofa with a gloomy face, exuding an icy aura all over her body. Although she was very angry in her heart, she didn't say anything harsh, partly because Ryan would just ignore her and partly because she couldn't bear to scold him.

If what happened the night before last only raised her suspicions, then with what happened today, if she still can't see that this little guy has a plan and is plotting something, then she's really an idiot.

Just thinking about letting Tom Cruise, the big name, down for an entire morning's pigeon, Nicole Kidman couldn't help but want to cover her forehead. She didn't think that just going to the supermarket would result in the big star calling her at home and asking her out, while Ryan, this bastard, agreed to pass on the message, yet pretended as if nothing had happened, not even mentioning it for half a day.

If it wasn't for Tom Cruise calling again after waiting for almost an hour, he would probably still be in the dark.

"Are you doing it on purpose?" Nicole looked up at the unscrupulous young man, who showed no sign of guilt, and changed to a affirmative tone, "You are doing it on purpose! It was also on purpose the night before last!"

Ryan never thought he could deceive Nicole, so he simply spread his hands and shrugged his shoulders. After all, it's done, and at worst, he would be grounded. A dead pig is not afraid of boiling water.

"Ryan Jenkins, what do you want to do?" Despite Nicole's suppressed anger, the slow and measured tone of this sentence still sent chills down one's spine. "Do you know what kind of consequences this will bring?"

She had never underestimated the boy's intelligence, and sometimes even thought that Ryan was smarter than herself. She absolutely didn't believe he couldn't see it, doing so would ruin her audition.

Of course, from Tom Cruise's somewhat chilly tone when he hung up the phone, it can be seen that the soup has already been served.

"You've got a thing for him, don't you, Nicole?" The question from Ryan left Nicole Kidman somewhat stunned. "Don't deny it, I'm not an idiot."

Nikki nodded slightly after hesitating for a moment, "There is some feeling, but just a little."

  "I don't like him, I really don't like him!"

Ryan's words made Nicole stunned again, after living together for several years, it was the first time she heard him express his likes and dislikes so clearly.

"Just this one sentence, Nicole thought she understood the reason why he did it, without thinking, she made a decision in her heart, 'Okay, Ryan, since you don't like him, I'll try to have less contact with him.'"

Ryan thought he would have to put in a lot of effort, but didn't expect Nicole to make up her mind so quickly. From this, he also saw his position in her heart. For a moment, there were thousands of words that wanted to be spoken, but in the end, only one sentence came out.

  "Thank you, Nicole."

Nikki didn't say anything else, but walked over and hugged him tightly into her arms. He felt her coolness, she felt his warmth, at this moment it seemed as if the whole world had only the girl and the boy left, she was his reliance, he was her everything.

"Ryan, in the future if you don't like something just tell me directly, okay? Don't make me worry."

  "Uh-huh, thank you, Nicole."

"What a pity about this opportunity." The duck that was almost within her grasp had flown away, and Nicole couldn't help but feel some regret.

"Alright, Nicole, that role is just not suitable for you."

Ryder, not yet ten years old, climbed out of Nicole's arms and struck a somewhat comical pose as if to say "let's have a serious talk", the kind of conversation that often occurred between them, and Nicole didn't mind. "Ryder, I know you're smart and mature for your age, but do you really understand movies?"

"Who says I don't understand movies?" Ryan's nostrils were practically pointing at the ceiling.

"Okay, then you have to tell me the reason."

"I've heard Patrick mention the general plot of this movie, and the female lead is basically just a vase, only needing to show off her demeanor and figure, without any room for acting skills to shine." Ryan paused, looking at Nicole's cold and elegant face again, "You know, Nicole, you're already too beautiful, of course, that's a plus not a minus. I can totally imagine if you took on this role, you'd definitely be typecast as a vase, and it wouldn't be easy to break free from that image later on. Are you willing to be just a vase?"

Although Ryan's words were not very pleasant to hear, how could Nicole Kidman not understand the reason behind them? She just urgently needed a work to open up her career in Hollywood and stand firm. However, after hearing these words, what she thought of first was not herself.

"Ryan, you little scamp, when did you start studying film again?" No sooner had she spoken than Nicole remembered that in London, this guy had bought quite a few books on film and screenwriting. Could it be...

"Does this still need research? Don't forget, I'm a genius!"

A red-haired giant ape's image suddenly flashed before Ryan, making him shudder involuntarily and hastily shake his head to stop his wild thoughts.

A black Cadillac slowly stopped in the small parking lot in front of the apartment, and a middle-aged man with some Jewish features, who was fat-headed and fat-brained, looked at the woman beside him and asked again, "Patte, did this script really come from a 10-year-old kid?"

"Correct me if I'm wrong, Harvey, but Ryan is just a little over nine years old, not quite ten yet."

Everyone is in this circle, and they often run into each other. Paik Ji-yeon and he are also barely considered friends.

"I'm just a bit surprised, this is too unbelievable, although the story is related to children, but such a movie full of loneliness and affection, no matter how you look at it, doesn't seem like something a child can write."

As they walked towards the apartment, Harvey Weinstein couldn't help but say a few more words, and Mrs. Kinsley burst out laughing, "Harvey, actually, once you see that boy, you won't have such thoughts anymore."

"Really?" He knew a bit about Jin Sil's situation, and since she was praising him so much, maybe that boy named Ryan was really something special. "Then I'll be looking forward to it."

The doorbell rang, and Nicole was about to get up to open the door when Ryan suddenly jumped up from the sofa and rushed to the door in a few strides.

"Hey, Patrick, you finally made it." Ryan greeted the female agent first, then looked at the big fat guy behind her. Although he was a bit different from his impression, he recognized him instantly.

"Hi, Ryan and Nicole." As they entered the small living room of the apartment, Paige Kinsley made the introductions, "This is Harvey Weinstein from Miramax Films, Harvey, this is Ryan Jenkins and Nicole Kidman."

After a few brief pleasantries, Weintraub got down to business. "Miss Kidman, are you Ryen's guardian?"

"Yes." Although she was in a daze, Nicole still nodded.

"It's like this, Miramax Pictures has decided to buy the script for 'The Sixth Sense'..." Harvey Weinstein hadn't even finished speaking before Nicole cut him off, "Script? The Sixth Sense? What script?"

With her question, the atmosphere in the room suddenly became somewhat eerie. Nicole Kidman and Harvey Weinstein's eyes almost simultaneously fell on Paige Kinsley, apparently wanting her to give an explanation.

Jin Silie looked at Ryan, who sat still as a mountain, not moving. Without needing to ask, it was clear that this little guy hadn't told Nicole about the script or their visit today. So she explained, "Ryan gave me a script he wrote, and I handed it over to Miramax Films. After Harvey read it, he decided to buy the script. I called this morning, and it seems Ryan probably forgot to tell you."

  "Ryan..." Nikki looked over.

"Nico, I just wanted to surprise you, okay, I apologize."

Ryan explained the situation to Nicole in a few words. The script was written by him when he was in London, and later handed over to Paige Kinsey. The other party had called in the morning, and he deliberately wanted to give her a surprise, so he concealed it.

"Dear, you scared me a bit. I know when we were in London, you read many books on playwriting, but I didn't think...” Nicole's hands moved unconsciously for a few moments, as if she didn't know what to say next. After calming down, she looked at the man opposite her again. "I'm sorry, Mr. Weinstein, may I take a look at that script first?"

  "Of course."

Wayne took out the script and handed it to Nicole. As an excellent businessman, he had enough patience in front of interests, which was a basic quality. While waiting, he quietly observed, especially that boy named Ryan.

He was a bit thin and weak, as could be seen from the events just now, his behavior was also somewhat erratic, but those sky-blue eyes were exceptionally bright, with flashes of maturity and wisdom that didn't belong to this age, perhaps this time there would be great gains.

The script isn't that thick, at most a hundred pages or so. Nicole has read many of Ryan's works and is extremely familiar with his writing style, so she browses through it very quickly. However, the more she reads, the more uncomfortable she feels. That lonely and helpless boy who needs someone to care for him and give him warmth is clearly the pre-seven-year-old Ryan, and that single mother looks just like her own shadow.

Even some of the scenes in the script, in her view, were inspired by his life after meeting her. The mother and son in it were clearly the two people who relied on each other for survival, not relatives but better than relatives.

It's just that these touching scenes, why do they have to appear in a thriller script? Maybe it has something to do with the dark memories that Ryan still holds. Nicole sighed inwardly and suddenly felt that she didn't care enough about him.
