Chapter 45 Oscar 2

  Chapter 45 Oscar 2

"And the winner for Best Supporting Actor is... "Jodie Foster slowly opened the envelope in her hand, looked at it briefly, seemed to be disbelieving, blinked hard a couple of times, and finally said, "Oh my god, what an incredible surprise, okay, not that much of a surprise, after all, everyone saw what he did last year..."

The people below had already realized something and began to look frequently in Ryan's direction, the crew of "Sixth Sense" were overjoyed, but the final result had not yet appeared, they could only forcibly suppress their excitement, even Nicole Kidman's cold expression was like ice and snow that had encountered sunlight, bursting out with brilliant colors, as if the boy winning an award was more exciting than her own.

Unlike everyone else's reaction, Ryan still maintained a smiling face, whether it was his expression or in his heart, as if there had been no change at all. Only Nicole, who held hands with him, felt the slight, uncontrollable trembling of his body.

"Congratulations, Ryan Jenkins, 'The Sixth Sense'!" Amidst the anticipation of the crowd, Judy Foster announced the final result. Due to the psychological preparation earlier, people were not too surprised, and the theater erupted in warm applause at the first moment.

Although it's frustrating to lose to an eleven-year-old kid, the defeated ones still gave equally warm applause. No one can deny that the little guy with a lot of talent perfectly portrayed Cole, a boy with mysterious sensory abilities in "The Sixth Sense".

  “yes!”

Ryan swung his fist with force and jumped up from his seat, giving Nicole a big hug. However, Nicole Kidman was nearly six feet tall, while he had just started puberty, so his head landed right on her chest, seeing only a vast expanse of white. He thought to himself "don't look" and quickly let go of the Australian beauty.

"Thanks, Nicole!" As a soul from the other side of the Pacific, Ryan wasn't the kind of guy who didn't know how to repay kindness. If it weren't for her taking him in four years ago, he couldn't imagine what his life would be like now. After more than four years of living together, the two had already developed their own tacit understanding. Nicole gently patted his arm, "Go on, don't disappoint those who care about you!"

Ryan left his seat and hugged the crew, including David Fincher, who was nominated for Best Director for the first time, and Al Pacino, who lost the nomination for Best Actor, and finally came to Harvey Weinstein.

  "Thanks, Harvey!"

After embracing Miramax Films founder with a firm hug, he turned around and said "And you too, Pate!"

Ryan rarely spoke a true word, he was very clear that without the full public relations efforts of Kate Winslet and Harvey Weinstein, he would not have been able to get this little gold man.

Even if Harvey Weinstein did more for his own Miramax, the two had previously reached a verbal agreement, but Ryan is not an ungrateful person, and there will be many places to use this guy in the future.

Moreover, he also promised him that both sides will have another collaboration this year.

Ryan stepped onto the stage of the grand hall with a steady pace, his excited emotions gradually subsiding. Unlike the somewhat frail boy image in "The Sixth Sense", he had obviously grown taller, maintaining a smiling face, paired with a slightly arrogant big hairdo, giving off a unique aura.

  "Congratulations, Ryan!"

Jodie Foster and Ryan exchanged a gentle hug.

"Thank you, Judy, it's an honor for you to present me with this award!"

"I was not as accomplished as you are at your age."

"You're a role model for all child stars, we should all learn from you!" Ryan said in a hushed tone, half-jokingly.

Jodie Foster naturally understood the meaning of the boy's words, but didn't say anything. Even though everyone thought she was the most successful child star to transition, only she herself could understand the bittersweet taste of it all.

"Ryan, I have to ask, you're 11 years old and you can write, produce and star in a film. Are you from Mars?" Judy Foster didn't let go of the microphone after Ryan received his award, instead making a rare joke.

Ryan didn't mind, flipped the small golden man in his hand, and it wasn't as heavy as he had imagined. The excitement and excitement had been vented out at the moment when the award was announced, and now he looked very calm, not like an eleven-year-old child at all, but rather like a veteran actor who had reached the age of near-not-worrying.

"Okay, I'm actually from Mars, now that I have the little golden man, I'm going back to Mars, Earth is too dangerous!"

As soon as Ryan finished speaking, the audience below erupted into thunderous applause. Everyone knew he was retaliating against Judy Foster's teasing. Of course, jokes should be kept to a minimum, and his expression gradually became serious. "Thank you, judges! This award is the greatest recognition and proof for an 11-year-old kid! Thank you, Harvey, for believing in a strange boy's wild imagination! Thank you, David and Al, you are my mentors and friends! Thank you to everyone on the Sixth Sense team, you are the best team! Thank you, Ms. Golden, you are the most excellent agent in my eyes! Thank you, Principal Katie, you warmed the heart of a lonely kid! Thank you to all who love me, you are my greatest motivation!"

As he spoke, Ryan suddenly stopped and his bright blue eyes, like sapphires, pierced through the dozens of feet of distance, instantly finding that cold yet passionate face amidst the sea of people, their two pairs of blue pupils locking onto each other.

"I was an orphan, and my life before the age of seven had only coldness and darkness!" Ryan's eyes shone brighter and his expression became more sincere, as if speaking with his own heart and soul. "Until that day, a day I will never forget, Nicole, you brought sunlight to a child's world, you held up a sky for a child who was on the verge of collapse and had no connection to anyone. Here, on Oscar's stage, I don't want to say thank you, because it's too weak, unable to express my feelings towards you. I just want to say... I love you, Nicole!"

As last year's most dazzling child star, the media had dug up Ryan's past, especially his relationship with Nicole Kidman, which was not a blood relation but seemed like one. After it was exposed, it had moved countless people. At this moment, facing the boy who spoke passionately on stage and the woman who was emotionally excited below, they could only respond with even more enthusiastic applause.

  "Thank you!"

On the other side, the band's urgent music started, Ryan had just finished speaking and was about to leave the stage when he suddenly flashed a brilliant smile. Isn't this the perfect opportunity to respond to Principal Black Pig? Besides, they had already planned it out on their way here, so it would be a waste not to use it.

He stood back in front of the microphone, "One last sentence, thank you to all those who hated me and whom I hated. If it weren't for the dark past that you created for me when I was six and seven years old, there wouldn't be a me today!"

No one had expected Ryan to say something like that, and for a moment, there was complete silence in the room.

In contrast, the reporters and paparazzi who heard this sentence jumped up excitedly. It was clear that Ryan Jenkins must have had some unknown dark past in the welfare institution where he used to live. As a reporter with a 'conscience', they had an obligation to dig out those secrets one by one and display them in front of the public, while also earning more money for themselves.

On his way back to his seat, a towering man like a mountain suddenly blocked Ryan's path. Before the boy could react, the future Governor T-800 gave him a celebratory hug.

  "Congratulations, Ryan!"

"Thanks, Mr. Bodyguard!" The boy winked at Schwarzenegger before they parted ways.

After celebrating with the crew, Ryan sat back in his seat and saw Nicole's eyes welling up beside him, although no tears fell, she was clearly moved by his words earlier, so he said intentionally, "Hey, this can't be the Nicole Kidman I know? She's cold, noble, proud and... calculating, how could she be moved to tears by a child's few words?"

"Ryan!" Nicole rebuked in a low voice, having been together for over four years and being extremely familiar with the boy's character. This annoying guy, every time he moved you to tears, his next words would always make you fall from cloud nine to the ground. If they weren't in public now, she really wanted to pull him over and give him a good scolding.

"I apologize, Nicole!" Ryan apparently understood the principle of knowing when to stop, after all, he was now at a physical disadvantage and would absolutely not be his opponent's match if things escalated. Some scores were better left to be settled slowly later on when he grew up.

The big winner of this year's Oscars was Kevin Costner and his "Dances with Wolves", after taking home the awards for Best Director and Best Picture, the annual award ceremony also came to an end.

After taking some routine photos and giving a brief interview, Ryan cited being too young to stay out late, while Nicole declined several party invitations citing the need to take care of her boy, and drove back to their apartment in Westwood with her agent.

Nikki had just finished her bath and was walking out of the bathroom, blow-drying her curly red hair with a hair dryer. She caught sight of the Oscar statuette casually thrown on the couch and couldn't help but be speechless. The little gold man that others treasured so much was being treated like this by that annoying little guy - she didn't know what to say about him.

Perhaps in his heart, these honors were not as precious as the manuscripts and scores he wrote. Nicole sighed, adjusted her mood, walked to the boy's door, gently pushed it open, just like she had done two years ago when she first adopted him, the door was not locked, and with a slight effort, she opened it.

Ryan's life was very regular, in the dim light, he was facing away from her, apparently already asleep. Nicole tiptoed across the floor and slowly walked to the bedside, carefully lying down on the other side of the bed, as if facing the most precious treasure, she gently held the sleeping boy in her arms.
