Arc 1 Epilogue: The first nightmare creature awaken

In the deserted streets, only the wind could be heard.

But occasionally, the wind slowly stopped making noises and only the void remained in the light fog.

"To central foxtrot, here is Alpha team, ready for hourly report" Said one of the men holding a radio.

There were only 5 of them, each holding not just simple weapons.

"We are exactly at the corner of street number 32, following the main avenue. Can you copy me?"

The team was waiting in position waiting for their leader to end the report.

The communication was bad last time, but they already expected it.

And right now, they got no answer.

"No signals from central foxtrot, after all, we are already in the area zero" Said the leader.

For them, they knew that the moment when losing communication would be when the real action starts.

"Central Foxtrot, if you copy me, we are already at area zero. We proceed to objective 1. Over."

  They resumed their travel.

The team advanced slowly since the start, they were instructed to do so until reaching zone zero.

But now they advanced slowly because from this point on,

They had no idea what was waiting for them, even when they were already away from the main objective.

They held their rifles in hand ready. All those were antiPhySEC guns.

The antiPhySEC material was expensive, but still mercenaries and military from every nation need it anyway.

For a few minutes, they advanced until a military base was barely visible.

"We are close, captain" Said one of them from the front of the team.

"Sergeant Smirnov, try the comms again, leave the message even if there is no answer" Ordered the captain.

"Here's Alpha team, close to objective 1 in area zero of the exclusion zone on Asgars. Whoever can copy me, answer" The sergeant said without delay,

He was ready to do it before.

Surprisingly, the signal somehow showed some sight of life.

Sadly, it was mostly buzzing sounds, and some incoherent words could barely be heard.

  "No answer as expected..."

But then, from the radio, even with the buzzing noise, audible voices were heard.

"Help.. Us! I don't wanna die!..." words like that were heard, and then... "Die..." A demonic voice was heard too in the middle of it.

But none of them got surprised or scared.

They already guessed what it was.

The spatial rift could make things like that, they knew beforehand.

Even when the supernatural events were explained in scientific terms,

  It was still called supernatural.

The current science on Gaia could not explain it.

Actually, it was thanks to some notes and clues left behind by the guild that they knew some basic information.

The sergeant turned off the radio.

They have met nothing in their way so far, and not even a single sign of life could be heard.

Animals disappeared, no insects could be heard, and now, they were going to get clues about the humans in the military base.

"Sergeant Smirnov, stay in the middle, Lieutenant Novak, with me on the front, the rest behind" The captain quickly ordered.

They advanced in that way across the empty streets.

Even Redzen made no moves on this side of Asgars, or so they said.

Then some voices could be heard on the radio again, it was the same as before.

It came from the sergeant's radio.

  "Smirnov, shut it down!"

"I already done it before" Despite his words he moved quickly, and pressed the switch some times, but it showed no sign of turning off.

  "This shit is broken"

"Throw it away" They already had enough radios anyway,

So, Smirnov did as he was ordered to do.

Just in front of the military base, the captain shouted loudly.

"Colonel Melnyk! We are from the Albion Vanguard Mercenary Corps! Answer us if you are there! We were sent by the UNA!"

Only silence answered him, but he still kept trying.

"Investigators from the TGI sent by the UNA! Answer us if you are still alive! We were sent to help!"

  Again, nothing worked.

They waited a few minutes in formation.

"DIE... DIE..." A radio turned on again with the demonic voice from before.

It was the lieutenant's radio this time.

Lieutenant Novak was not a newbie and after confirming the switch to turn it off didn't work,

He threw the radio to the ground and smashed it with his foot.

"At this rate, we are getting out of radios, captain, take out the batteries from your radio, just in case"

"Good idea, prepare to enter while I do it"

The captain did it and they were about to get inside the base.

The main door was quickly open, it looked like it was already open.

What came into their sight were multiple bodies.

Dead bodies but without military uniforms; those were uniforms from the TGI investigators.

"It seems like they met their end just at the entrance" Said the sergeant.

But at his words, everyone got in position, ready to fire in any direction at any time.

"We already know what happened to the investigators, but there is not a single body from any asgarian military. Eyes open, guys"

Just a little shadow of doubt and they would react and fire their guns in a blink.

The advanced and just inside a building, just at the entrance of it,

  Stood some kind of creature.

  The creature was entirely black.

It looked like a human, but it was more than two meters tall.

Still, nobody fired their guns, the creature stood still, and since it had a human shape, the captain thought of communicating with it.

  "Freeze! Identify yourself"

The first part was useless, the creature made no move since the start, not even a little bit.

That gave the mercenaries to see what were they dealing with.

The creature looked very much like a human, but there were big differences.

Excluding its tall height, it was totally black with red eyes, surrounded by a strange black mist too.

Also, the creature opened its mouth, but it did not speak.

From the mouth of it, only red like a fire could be seen.

"Supernatural creature spotted, Can we shoot it already?" Said the Lieutenant.

"Testing fire" The captain took a high caliber pistol and shot it towards the creature, it was a normal gun, not antiPhySEC.

  *BANG*

He made sure to shoot its head, but no damage was made.

But as soon as the creature didn't fall, another gun fired.

*BANG* this time it was a rifle in the lieutenant's hands.

"No damage taken!" He said, wondering if it was maybe the first creature in history who could take a shot from an antiPhySEC special gun and survive.

Then out of nowhere, the creature started walking towards them.

*RATAT-TA-TAT* The captain fired his rifle.

A short burst but still no damage was taken.

"The creature seems to be slow, take steps back"

They did as the captain said. The creature was indeed slow,

When they were walking, the creature followed them but did not rush to them.

"What now? Keeping our distance?" Asked one man in the rear of the group.

"That thing isn't even making an effort; I think it was not the thing that killed people here" Said the last one.

"Well, from now on we will..." The captain got interrupted by the sudden move.

Just as he was talking, the lieutenant was walking closer to the creature without worries.

But at the right moment, the creature disappeared, turning into dark smoke, and that smoke moved at an extremely fast speed that they could not react in time even as ability users.

The creature manifested in front of the lieutenant and with his big hand, grabbed him by the neck and lifted him in the air.

"Argh..." The man could not even scream properly.

*RATAT-TA-TAT* And his gun failed to make a damage on it.

The creature used its other hand and threw away the rifle.

But as an ability user, he could not let a supernatural creature win without a fight.

And so, he used his ability, spreading heat from his body, burning part of his clothes that were not made to resist his full power when the fire spread from him.

He directed the fire with his hands towards the creature, concentrating his all on the monster holding him.

The fire spread to the full length of the humanoid monster.

Still, no damage was taken, but the creature made some sort of scream, not loud, but its voice could almost break their eardrums.

Then it launched the lieutenant to the ground with a strength that only a veteran Physical emission variant user could use, or even stronger.

In one strike, Lieutenant Novak was dead.

"Fuck! Novak!" One of the soldiers fired another burst of his weapon.

But how could he make some damage to it when it could not be damaged?

The nightmare of those veteran soldiers could not leave them after that mission.
