Two days later.
On a TV, in a local shop, the broadcast was about the situation with the wolf-like creatures and the Golden Corps that went into the jungle in search and destruction of its dens.
"With these moves, the Golden Corps had already secured a big section of the jungle," said the journalist.
"There has been barely any loss on the corps despite the opinion of the international community of the corps being too inexperienced and new to achieve their mission"
The news kept talking about the situation of the jungle, but only what people wanted to see and hear, or better said, what the government wanted to show.
"They are not counting the dead prisoners that just went to the mission to help, as expected"
Mike knew about their deaths, he was there at that time after all.
But they hide the deceased in the news and physically.
The documents should be handled later in the future, early or late, no matter what, but the opinion in the early hours was important in politics also, at least in corrupted politics.
Mike left the shop after buying just snacks.
It has been a long journey for him to hide at night from the criminal groups and then search for them during the day.
Along with organizing and summarizing all the information he got so far.
He was tired.
And on top of that, he had to keep following the first lieutenant that tried to capture or kill him.
His patience was running out.
More problems like that, and he would use lethal force to get results.
But he still resisted the need.
At least for now, this city was full of criminals.
One wrong move and all the big groups would be on his chasing.
But all was worth it.
He got the information he paid for, the routines of the soldier when out of service, all that he needed to make a plan and confront the man.
And the plan was ready.
So, after eating some snacks to recover some energy, he went right to the military base in the city.
At the time he was being chased, the criminal groups used their military identity to move freely around the city, but it didn't mean they could publicly chase him,
After all, they had no proof of any crime.
Quite the opposite, even any crime Mike could commit, was approved by the country by giving him access to develop his own investigations.
Anything against him would result in him just saying 'It was part of the investigation' or 'I made it so I can continue my investigation'.
One needed clear proof of every little detail when accusing a blacklist hunter.
But still, they could chase him at night, when the eyes could not see, so no proof no witness then no crime.
Still, when going to confront the man, Mike had the need of a plan.
With so much corruption in the world, one must be prepared to counterattack.
The military base in the city was big, very big, but it still had only one access available, all other access was closed.
Even if he wanted to get in by illegal means there was no need anyway.
One could say he was to blackmail someone, but it was for a good purpose, so it was mostly like a moral blackmail?
...
"Pleasure to meet you, I wanted to talk with you the other day, but it looked like you were busy that day" Said Mike.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
The man was shocked, how was that man that they desperately chased each night right here right now?
"The other day, you say?"
"That day at the hotel I mean, it looked like you were quite busy, so I let you be" Mike was talking about two days ago, when during the night, that man chased him into the hotel to find no one in Mike's room.
"Don't be so surprised, I was curious about who would be so busy that day that I just searched so info-"
"And you dare come to me on a bright day? Right to my door?" The man thought something was amiss, why would Mike go in front of him to introduce himself?
So he teased Mike, testing the waters.
"Yes, right that" But Mike gave no information yet.
"And you came to see me? How cute, but you are fucked, you know? Why would you go to the wolf den with your own will?"
"Wolf? I don't understand what you say, anyway, look at the folder in there, since the army in this jungle has been so busy, I took my time to search for some information about potential dangers"
The man took the folder and read it, but had no time to waste after started reading the first papers, he went passing sheet after sheet.
All the information was about Alexander Gonzales, his real name.
Along with a lot of evidence.
To summarize a lot of evidence in barely 3 days, was a rough job.
Of course, Mike did almost all, but in the end, he just contacted Claire to make it for him.
And an android could do all that work in just a few seconds.
"You came prepared, I will take these files to investigate by myself, something else?" Asked the man with a smile, he thought for a moment that maybe he was safe by stealing the information, following Mike so he could deal with him in a moment.
But it was just barely a hope.
"No need to worry, I already sent it to my people, but what I want from Alexander Gonzales is not to arrest him, I would let it to the army, they had been chasing him in the jungle all that time, right?"
"What do you want?" This time, the man just sighed and was ready to release some information, but if Mike asked for too much... he was already making a plan.
But sadly for him, it was all already covered.
"No need to worry too much, I made a call earlier, your superiors at the army are busy right now, so this conversation won't get out of this room"
The man notices that there are no more people close, despite what he ordered them earlier.
Whoever Mike contacted, was higher in rank than his contacts in Aether.
Mike handed the man 2 pictures and said nothing, he even turned his back to look at the window.
In there he saw the expression of the man, with his ability, scanning every move.
It was subtle, but still noticed it, when saw one of the faces the man had a weird expression. The other picture gave him a relaxed look, and like having some doubts also.
The man could never know that Mike scanned him like reading a book while he was at the other's back.
"So, the photos are the questions, what about your answer?"
Mike was very well aware of the order of the pictures the man saw.
The photo of Anthon Makarevich was the one the man was relaxed about.
Luckily, it looked like the man had no good relationship with Anthon.
What worried him was the other photo.
The face was from Chriss Brown.
He searched for information about him but could not find much, it looked like the information was censored by the government.
So he asked Claire too, and she found little about him, but what she found was way more valuable than what Mike could find ever.
It was a very good perk to have an android that could search the entirety of the internet in just a few minutes.
"I don't know about this man, but about Anthon, what do you expect me to tell you? Is a very well-known terrorist after all-"
"Can you take responsibility for your words? Can you take responsibility for the lost kids?" Asked Mike in a cold voice.
It was not exactly possible for humans to detect the killing intention; and even for PhySEC users, it was hard but somehow, the man could feel that Mike was about to kill him if he decided to not collaborate.
Anyway "You crazy?" The man was stubborn. He decided to show his teeth back "I know nothing about him" He then landed the photos on top of the desk.
"Sad, there was a very huge reward for Anthon"
"I know"
The rewards for information or capture of people in the wanted list came together with the information about them.
But who could claim the reward? It was mostly a fake, only authorized personnel could claim the reward. Police, army, authorized mercenaries.
"Wait, authorized mercenaries are the blacklist hunters" Said the man.
"Yes" Mike knew that other criminals wouldn't snitch so easily.
And also he knew about the unwritten rules in the underworld.
Criminals will not capture other criminals even for the reward.
But what about collaborating with others for the reward?
"Ok then, I will help, I think I know a few things about him"
"Nice decision, then" Mike turned back to face the man "He biting the bait so easily, only money is in their minds as expected"
Little the man knew that Mike's intention was to blackmail him, not to negotiate the share of the reward.
"If I don't bring the money to the corps, my boss won't be pleased... Money is such a motivation... well, actually I think Rose won't be mad if I don't bring results, well, more money for me then"
In the current world, money is such a motivation.
