Chapter 2

Wolfy looked down in surprise, blinking rapidly. He cleared his throat, the shock wearing away quickly. Wolfy was neither the Coroner of the Police, so he was unable to do anything to help this unfortunate woman. Wolfy could at least show her a little respect, so he bent to pull her away from foot traffic and froze. Her watery eyes were open, watching him.

The women tried to speak, but only managed to cough up blood. Her long brown hair was matted as tears streamed down her filthy face. She was covered in burns, her blouse torn to shreds and smelling of gasoline and bleach. The woman’s wrist were duck-taped together as her frail frame trembled from the shock of the impact

  “Help me.” She whimpered.

The raw desperation that cracked her voice struck Wolfy, and he crouched next to her. His belt buckled doubled as a knife, which he used to cut her bondage. He stabilized her neck for fear she would choke on her blood, but that may not have been necessary for this particular situation.

“Aiden?” Her eyes were looking through him, scared and watery.

Wolfy made no sound of confirmation, but he took her hand in his own.

“Oh, my beautiful boy. I’m so sorry.” She whisphered.

“S’okay. Forgave you a long time ago.” He decided to give her that small comfort, squeezing her hand.

The Woman’s body went rigid and her grip became tight to the point of pain. Her eyes rolled back in her head, glowing a solid blue as a similar-colored smoke escaped her mouth. Wolfy scrambled back, but not quickly enough. The smoke curled down his esophagus, and he began to hack, clawing at his throat.

When the coughing fit eased, Wolfy cursed under his breath. How was he supposed to know that this (now dead) woman was a superhuman as well? When a superhuman died, their abilities were desperate to find a new user. He had no idea what her power was, but he had a feeling that he would learn soon. If Wolfy had know how much his small act of kindness would fuck him, he would’ve happily continued his lovely little selfish existence. He had just gotten to his feet when he heard a voice behind him.

  “Freeze.”

“Who the hell-” Wolfy stopped once he had fully turned around.

Mateo Fox was the single hottest man in existence. He was 23, but he was already the top hero in the city. WIth the ability to freeze time, coupled with superstrength, he was a formidable adversary. It was no wonder criminals pissed their pants and women threw their panties at just the sight of the golden boy. Even better, he was simply a genuinely good, humble person.Wolfy just so happened to have a HUGE crush on Mateo, so he was a tad distracted.

“You’re going to have to come with me. You’re not under arrest, but if you try to flee, I will detain you.” Mateo spoke with a firm authority that sent shivers down Wolfy’s spine.

“Can I atleast have a sip of my milkshake?” Asked Wolfy.

Mateo nodded silently. See? Good person.

Wolfy looked over his shoulder, watching two of The Agency’s employees placing the woman into a black body back with a strange reverence. He took a sip of his banana milkshake in thought. He had only seconds to consider that his drink tasted funny before he blacked out.
