chapter 1

Reese Affluent sighed as he got up from his luxuriously comfortable bed. Mind already thinking of the disappointments that he was facing that day. Even as the fresh clean air from his closed great window flowed into his room, The rebel group had nearly made it to his castle after smashing not only several of his outposts but several security pylons. He would have to face them first before he could get anything important done. After facing them, he would have to face the new potential crisis that his research teams had found in showcasing that it was not only possible to manipulate memories but to manipulate them in such a way that the person who was manipulated is unaware that they had their memory affected. There's some hope, Reese mused to himself as he summoned the clothing for the day with his magic. After a pause, he changed his clothing to that which would work better in a combat situation. After all, there was evidence that while they were not consciously aware of their changed memories, there were unconscious effects of those memories on their bodies. On their thoughts and the actions that they would take, hopefully, if this was pronounced enough they would figure out that they had had their memories changed after a push of information through the Empire's network and that would be all that he would have to do. Striding out of his room and into his office, he was greeted by his assistant and the greatest threat to the Empire, Morgarita.

“Hello, shall I serve you, my Liege?” He intoned gravely and a little bit gravelly as well. He destroyed it. After taking a moment to ensure that none of his consuls, data sensors, or anything else in his empire had been affected adversely by him while he was asleep, he began the process of summoning him again. It was a complicated spell made all the more complicated by the fact that while he wanted some of the memories of the old version to carry over, he didn't want all of them or even anywhere near that many of them. All that he had to know was how to serve the empire and that he was the one that was in charge. “Really, Why was that so hard to understand?” Reese thought to himself. He finished this spell, and as Morgarita “stood” back up again, he bowed and said, “my Liege, how shall I serve you?” The mass of blackness that had spooled out in a puddle rapidly resolved to a seemingly small young man who was neither young nor really that small. After all, he had been ruling the Empire for at least. . . How long have I been ruling for? Reese Affluent asked. Ten years, my Lord. Morgarita said Keeping an impassive face. Ten years we thought to himself. Ten years and some rebels think that they can do better than me. I have brought prosperity to the empire, peace, and safety as well. What more do they want? externally he said Prepare the castle for some guests. Even though they are not invited, I will give them a chance to beg for mercy and explain why they do not believe the Empire is the best that it can be. “It will be done," Morgarita said. He rapidly shifted back into the black mass and slithered away through the several holes that we had made for him so that he could work more efficiently for the good of the Empire. And so that Reese could keep better track of him. Reese simply stood there. for a bit of thinking and trying to drum up something other than just anger, apathy, and sadness. He didn't succeed by the time he had left his office and gone into the castle proper. He had several things that he had to organize himself for the guests and several things that he didn't trust Morgarita to do to satisfaction or to have access to and not try and use to his benefit. One of the final stops he went to before heading back to his throne room to make sure that everything was ready was the main core room at the bottom of his castle base. Looking at the status report, he saw that the Omega core was nearly completed construction and that in all of the other metrics in his empire, there were the few settlements that the rebels had visited were within tolerances and had acceptable prosperity. Taking a moment to thoroughly check every nook and cranny physically and digitally of the system to ensure that there hadn't been any infiltration by Morgarita He arrived behind him. Everything has been prepared for you and my Lord. He intoned. Good, Reese said, standing up and shutting the access panel. Then everything was ready. He began walking towards his Throne room Morgarita Followed him and asked, my Lord, why do you entertain these rebels? I can take care of it for you and you would not have to worry about them. He continued without letting Reese have a chance to answer. The wind blew in the hallways, carrying the faint smell of mint on the breeze. Reese walked Being followed by Morgarita until they reached one of his upper Castle Gardens. One dedicated to preserving plants and fauna that he had found in the multiverse. that he had not introduced his empire to himself. The sky was clear and blue and the sun was shining. Which made it all the more obvious what Plants were not from a “usual” type of planet. Morgarita Spoke again. They are not important. Reese whirled angrily before he could continue further, saying, “They are important. Everybody is important, It doesn't matter that they don't have the good sense to understand how to rule, they should never do so. They shouldn't suffer what I have suffered, that they do not experience it.” That's why I want to know what drove these people to act in this way. Is it simple arrogance that I can deal with? Is it a flaw with the empire? If it is, then it needs to be fixed. He announced it with a shout. slamming the butt of his staff into the ground. That is why I need to meet with them in person. He said, quieting. Morgarita and Reese stood quietly in the garden for a bit before Morgarita spoke again, stating “People are not important.” Before he could get any further Reese's affluent destroyed him The blackened Soot On the brick path Marked where Morgarita Once stood. Reese stood there in silence for a moment longer before continuing towards his throne room alone. “At least there will be no nobles to ruin this,” Reese thought to himself. Thinking of the various regions of his empire that he would have to get updates on after his meeting. Reese's frown was pronounced as he reached the throne room.
