Chapter 8 – Music taste

It took both Lincoln and Darleena about an hour for them to get close to the Saffron Hotel. They spoke about numerous things from their families, to podcasts they listened to, to what they do for fun. Even though Darleena hadn't heard of some things or games Lincoln had mentioned, it didn't drag the conversation down at all. When they were talking about what they did for fun he mentioned how he would compete in tournaments. In the back of his mind, he was surprised. He knew that not everyone watched sports but after he said what he did he expected her to say something along the lines of. "Oh my god, I can't believe I'm talking to you." or "I'm a big fan, can I get a picture with you?" or "Who have you fought in the past?" But she said nothing of the sort. She barely gave a response. The only thing she said was. "Oh, that's really cool." And then went on to talk about what she likes to do for fun. Maybe if she was talking to Vuyo, he would have gotten upset or annoyed for moving on so quickly, but he didn't mind at all. It made him happy that she didn't start fangirling for him and change the way she acted to try and impress him.

"So what do you think?" He asks while she listens to some of his music while they walk.

"It's really good. It's different from what I listen to as I'm more into metal but I still like this," she says as she removes the earphone from her left ear and hands it back to him with care.

"I like to listen to Metal too but the only time I do listen to it. Is when I'm on my way to a tournament. Some people say that it gets them either hyper or pumped but for me, it gets me ready and focused. Well, for the most part anyway. I guess that sounds weird huh?" Lincoln asks as he rubs the back of his head.

"No, no it's not weird at all. Who's your favorite band?" Darleena asks. He hmm and ahhh for a good while trying to think of his answer. "Do you not have a favorite?"

"I do but. I don't think you have heard the name of them as hardly anyone I know has heard of them, so I'm trying to think of one you may have heard of," Lincoln says.

"No no, come on. Say your favorite. I've listened to most metal band songs once or twice so I have probably heard of them." She responds eager to hear his answer.

  "Nuclear Season."

"No way! That's my favorite band as well." Darleena says with a smile before she continues and asks. "Did you go to their concert st year?"

"Of course. It was pretty good. From how things went they definitely had a bigger budget than Blue Catastrophe. I think that's why I enjoyed it a lot more." Lincoln says.

"No way. I hear that Blue Catastrophe concerts are normally really cool. Plus there expensive to go to so I thought they would be better." She pauses for a second. "I mean I know that just because something is more expensive doesn't mean it will be better but from what I have heard their st concert was pretty bad cause things weren't organized well," she says.

"Really? Well, that does make sense. Especially with how they are but I haven't really been to any of their other concerts to know if that's true or not.

"Wait, wait, wait. You have only been to one of their concerts?" She asks in a confused tone.

"Yeah," Lincoln responds before letting out a small chuckle. "I probably could have gone to their other concerts but it's only in the st four years that I have actually liked their music."

"You're joking, right? I mean they have been around for such a long time and have so many good songs like Attack Attack Attack or Psma Bang, or one of their more popur songs Tear Them Apart." Darleena says as she slowly stops in her tracks and sings the main chorus while she throws her purple hair in the wind. Even though her singing wasn't bad, her dance moves were pretty ridiculous. It looked like she was either about to fall over or she had a nasty cold and was about to sneeze and have her brain shoot out of her nose. Watching her dance did make Lincoln want to ugh but he decided not to, as he didn't have the right to as his dance moves weren't the best. Compared to her he was like a baby duck who didn't know how to walk. After a minute of her singing the chorus, she stops dancing, readjusts her hair so that it isn't in her face, and turns to face him for a response.

Got to keep it together otherwise, she's gonna feel bad. Though I'm surprised she isn't blushing or seems embarrassed. She must be really confident in herself. He thinks to himself. "I mean, I remember listening to their music when I was younger and I couldn't stand it. But back then I was more into songs from games so I hardly even listen to metal like that." Hearing this the smile that was pstered on her face had turned into a frown. Did I say something wrong? He wonders to himself.

"Fake fan." She shouts. "You're supposed to go to all of their concerts and like all their music if they're your favorite metal band." She hits her cane against the road aggressively in an exaggerated way. "Take back that you are a fan," Darleena says in a whiny tone.

From the way she smmed her cane against the road he realized she wasn't serious so he put both his hands up in the air like he was surrendering while saying, "I'm sorry please don't take my fan card away." He puts both of his hands together and closes his eyes. "It's the only thing I got left," he says in a sad tone. *kmmpt* was the sound he heard before Darleena bursts out ughing which makes him ugh.

"You're forgiven," Darleena says after she finishes ughing. "That does make sense though. I can see why you didn't like their music if you only listen to songs from games when you were younger," she says before they continue to walk forward.

"Yeah. I think the one thing I didn't like at the concert though was the food. Like the food was pretty bad, but overall it was a good time." Not long after Lincoln said that they had finally made it to the outside of the Saffron hotel. "Damn, where here already?"

"Ah, that's unfortunate." She pauses for a second. "I was wondering if you would give me your number as I would love to talk to you some," Darleena says quite hesitant at first as she didn't want to come off weird.

"Yeah, sure I don't mind." He says. Once hearing this she pulls out her phone from her pocket and hands it to him and he enters his number. A couple of buttons press ter he finishes entering his number and saves his number as a contact. He then calls himself on her phone before declining to prove to her he hadn't given her a random number. "There you go." He hands her back her phone "See you around," he says.

"Yeah see ya." Once Darleena said bye with a smile, Lincoln started to walk away and headed towards his house while Darleena just stood there and didn't move an inch. As soon as she couldn't sense his presence anymore her smile faded away. His heart. Is different. Why. The way it beat was intriguing. Or maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm changing. No there's no way. My hate for humans will never die. She pauses for a second. But his is definitely different. While she was having that thought a guy who was in a suit bumped into her by accident as he was more focused on his phone. *Pt. Cck cck cck* was the sound of his phone slipping out of his and dropping on the floor. He was about to cuss her out but noticed that she was blind so he calmed down and said. "Oh my god I'm so sorry, are you okay?" But Darleena doesn't say anything at all. She just continues to stand in one spot as if nothing happened. "Uuuuuuh," the man says in a confused tone. To him, it was like she saw Medusa and had turned to stone. A couple of seconds ter she turns and walks to the entrance of the hotel. Not knowing what to do, the man continues walking, and thinks how weird his encounter with Darleena was.
