Chapter 9: A Letter from Ten Years Ago

  Chapter 1: The Eye-Catching Wedding

"I am." Ning Fan stood under the eaves and replied. He had already recognized the man's voice, who was the same person that had just called him on the phone.

The man pushed open the car door, one hand holding an umbrella and the other holding a long rectangular metal box got out of the car. He walked quickly to Ning Fan's front, slightly bowing: "Hello, Mr. Ning, I need to check your ID."

"Okay." Ning Fan thought this person was making a big deal out of nothing, but still handed over his ID card.

"Thank you, Mr. Ning. This is your mail, please take it." The man quickly handed over the ID card along with a metal box to Ning Fan, "Mr. Ning, your mail is in the password box, but we don't know the password. However, this password box was left to you by an old man surnamed Liu, who said that the password is the date of the first time you two met, and it's an eight-digit number."

"I understand, thank you." Ning Fan took over the metal box and put away his ID card.

"Then we won't disturb Mr. Ning anymore." The man smiled slightly, then retreated to the side of the car, got in and closed the umbrella, and soon the black sedan backed out.

"Uncle!" A clear voice came over, and it was Yezi holding an umbrella coming out to look for Ningfan.

Ning Fan clutched the metal box and rushed into the rain, dashing towards Ye Zi. As for the two madwomen in the security room, he couldn't be bothered to care about them, and as for the fact that someone had just died inside, he didn't want to get involved either. After all, he was no longer a police officer, but an expelled one.

What's more important is that he can't wait to open the metal box, because he has been convinced that this metal box was left by his old master who had departed ten years ago, and the surname of the old master was indeed Liu!

It's been ten years. In those ten years, he had secretly inquired about Lao Dao's news, but after Lao Dao left ten years ago, it was as if he had evaporated from the world, and there was no news of him at all.

It's also because of this that he has been keeping his promise to Lao Dao for the past ten years, as he feels that if he keeps his promise, Lao Dao might still appear.

Today is the first day after ten years, and today he finally got the news of Lao Dao. At this moment, Ning Fan couldn't help but feel some excitement.

The torrential rain poured down, but it couldn't extinguish the flames in Ning Fan's heart. He pulled Yezi along as they walked quickly towards Villa No. 9. This villa was the most valuable asset left to Yezi by her father, Ye Long, after he was taken away. In fact, it was his only asset. Over the years, some of Yezi's daily basic expenses had been borne by Ning Fan.

The villa was not far from the gate, and Ning Fan and Ye Zi quickly entered the villa. Their clothes were also soaked a bit, but Ning Fan didn't care about that much. As soon as he entered the living room, he quickly sat down on the sofa, ready to open the metal box.

Ning Fan quickly found the numeric keypad and entered eight digits: 19940502. Twenty years ago, on May 2nd, on Ning Fan's fifth birthday, he first met Lao Dao.

  Crack.

The metal box lid popped open, and in sight was a letter. On the envelope were three familiar words: "Xiao Fan Collect."

Ning Fan took a deep breath, then opened the envelope, pulled out a piece of paper from inside, unfolded it and found that there were only eight big characters written in brush calligraphy: "After the storm, a rainbow will appear!"

"Old Dao, old Dao, did you know ten years ago that I would encounter all these things now?" Ning Fan thought silently in his heart.

"Uncle, who wrote this character? It seems pretty good, taking it out to sell might make a lot of money!" Yezi couldn't help but say at this time.

"This can't be sold." Ning Fan said in a bad mood, then folded the letter and put it back into the envelope, continuing to look at other items in the box.

There aren't many things in the box, apart from this letter, there are only two things. One of them is a property ownership certificate for a building, and the owner's name is surprisingly Ning Fan. As for the building, it's actually the Qingyun Pavilion!

Qingyun City is not a big city, but a small tourist city. The most famous scenic spot in Qingyun City is the Qingyun Mountain Scenic Area, and the Qingyun Pavilion is a Taoist temple within the Qingyun Mountain Scenic Area. Ning Fan came to this Taoist temple at the age of five and lived with the old Taoist for ten years.

It wasn't until now that Ning Fan realized that the Taoist temple had become his own property, when all along he thought it was a government asset.

Apart from this deed, the last item was a key. Upon seeing the key, Ning Fan understood one thing - he needed to make a trip to Qing Yun Temple.

Subconsciously glanced outside, the torrential rain showed no signs of stopping. Ning Fan slightly furrowed his brow; it was already late and still raining heavily - could he make it to Qingyun Pavilion?

It's okay if it was just him, but there is also Yezi here.

Ning Fan decided to temporarily live with Yezi because he thought Yezi was currently not safe, and the reason she was not safe had nothing to do with him. Of course, the trouble he was currently in might make Yezi even less safe.

In the past two years, Yezi has actually been very safe. Back then, Yelong was imprisoned for murder, and it was rumored that he had a lot of evidence of other people's crimes in his hands. He never brought out these materials because he wanted to use them to guarantee his daughter's safety.

Today, however, Chuo unexpectedly dared to lay hands on Ye Zi, giving Ning Fan a bad premonition. Perhaps, the protective charm that had been protecting Ye Zi was starting to lose its effect.

In the past twenty-four hours, Ning Fan had experienced too many things. The two assassination attempts he had just encountered seemed to be targeting the Ice Beauty rather than him, but Ning Fan still felt a sense of crisis, which gave him a sense of urgency.

"Uncle, what are you thinking about?" Yezi asked curiously at this time.

"Yèzi, I'm going to make a trip to Qingyun Mountain right away. You're coming with me." Ning Fan finally made up his mind. "Go back to your room and pack your things, we'll spend the night there tonight."

"Got it, uncle!" Yezi seemed very excited, running quickly upstairs and into her bedroom.

Ning Fan then took out his mobile phone and dialed a number: "Uncle Kun, it's Ning Fan."

"Ning Fan, what's wrong?" Shi Kun's hoarse voice came from the other side. "Are you okay now? The bureau was a bit too much this time."

"Uncle Kun, I'm fine, it's just that I need your help with something." Ning Fang quickly said: "Have someone pass on a message for me to Ye Long, ask him to give me a call, and also tell him to be careful."

"Yè Lóng?" Shí Kūn was taken aback, "Nìng Fán, what's going on here?"

"Uncle Kun, I'm not sure either, just a bad feeling." Ning Fan didn't explain further. "Sorry, Uncle Kun, I didn't want to trouble you, but as you know, I couldn't find anyone else to help me."

"Ning Fan, don't be so distant, others may not understand you, but I do." Shi Kun sighed, "Don't worry, I have a friend on the prison side, I'll contact him immediately."

The entire Qingyun City Police Department, only Shi Kun truly knew some of Ning Fan's abilities. In the past few years, Shi Kun had solved many cases and was promoted from an ordinary criminal police officer to deputy captain of the criminal police team. However, Shi Kun was well aware that these cases were basically all solved by Ning Fan, and he just happened to take credit for them.

"Uncle, I've packed up!" Ye Zi carried a small bag and ran down while Ning Fan also hung up the phone in time.

"Let's go." Ning Fan smiled slightly and walked out the door with the metal box, opening an umbrella and entering the rainstorm together with Ye Zi.

A few minutes later, Ning Fan and Ye Zi boarded the bus heading for the Qingyun Mountain Scenic Area.

Qingyun Mountain Scenic Area is the calling card of Qingyun City, and it has a good reputation throughout Zhongjiang Province and even the whole country. Every year, many tourists from all over come here. For a tourist city, the importance of tourists goes without saying, and Qingyun City also tries its best to create convenient conditions for these tourists.

The direct bus to Qingyun Mountain is also one of the conveniences.

Inside the Qingyun Mountain Scenic Area, there are no hotels except for some local residents' homes that have been converted into inns. These inns cannot accommodate all tourists, so most tourists still stay in hotels within the city of Qingyun. Except for self-driving tourists, others take buses to travel between the city and Qingyun Mountain.

Of course, the distance between them is not far, and taking a bus will only take about an hour.

"Uncle, we're taking a special car!" Yezi exclaimed with a delighted expression.

It's raining heavily now, so naturally no one is going to Qingyun Mountain at this time. On this bus, except for the driver, there are only Ning Fan and Ye Zi, two people, it really feels like taking a private car.

"Yè zi, I'll take a nap until the terminal station, wake me up then." Ning Fan closed his eyes slightly, and the sudden drowsiness made him want to rest for a while.

Ning Fan leaned back in his chair, entering a state of drowsiness, and didn't know how long had passed when the car suddenly screeched to a halt. Ning Fan was startled awake.

"Help! Help!" In the midst of the torrential rain, a faint cry for help from a woman's voice could be heard.

"There's been an accident up ahead, a woman is shouting for help, shall we go down and assist?" The bus driver turned his head to ask Ning Fan for his opinion.

"Alright." Ning Fan, although not very clear about the situation ahead, still agreed without hesitation. He turned his head to look at the side and handed the phone to Yezi, "Yezi, wait in the car, I'll go take a look."

Ning Fan got off the car and scanned the scene with his eyes, and soon saw the car accident in front of him. This section was a mountain road, and at this moment, a Land Rover SUV had crashed into the mountain wall, while another BMW had crashed into the guardrail on the other side, and almost half of it was hanging out, swaying precariously, looking as if it would fall off the mountain at any moment.

"Help! Over here! Come quick, doctor!" A young woman, drenched from head to toe, was shouting desperately beside a Land Rover.
