Moth in the Starlight <1>

Gods played, the heavens warped. A false night of speckled stones of surplus power coated the oppressive black above. Horrifying howls from tearing fabric time and crashing waves of cosmos waning under glorifying strain. Gods and godlike, Titans and titanic creations clashed and crumbled under a collapsing sky, its pillars shattered.

One lone surviving light fell, and hope fell with it in a trail of blinding blue and white, colliding in one unassuming glen.

  Darkness was not long behind.

Chasing through the lights on a self made quest of the highest calibre. A young moth, last of its kind searched through traces of hope leading through light, heat, and power. It greets the green moss glow of life, and the red fungi promise of nutrients, as it flutters down to the lowest part of the forest land. Stopping in confusion only momentarily to draw on the small lessons it learned over its short life, moving down past the alluring field of twisted star-cage flowers, false lights floating for the unwise, and crawling through a small tunnel reaching and winding deeper beneath to where the glens soul resided.

  “Light? It right in front.”

The young moth sat still confused as the screen shared the information through universal feeling. When it was finished, the moth flapped its wings in confirmation before being wrapped in a cocoon.

In its sleep, the system worked to channel the overwhelming amounts of mana throughout the moths small body, slowly rebuilding it across 30 days and nights, gradually growing a hundred times before every last drop had been integrated into her new anatomy.

She gently pulled herself out of her resting place, admiring her new body.

“Everything small! The walls, the moss, the fungi!!”, She shook off her wings, stretching off a month of locked joints and unused muscles. Attempting to get her new body moving, she quickly realised that something was very off.

“I got all limbs!? Why it not working?!?!”, panicked, she crawled to a greater light source to get a better view of all the differences. “WAH?! THE BOTTOM TWO ARE DIFFERENT!!!”

Supporting herself on the wall, she attempted to put both feet flat on the ground, a large wave of relief flooding through her as instincts took over to help stay balanced. “This soooo weird”, she thought, tentatively taking step after step around the small opening she found the light.

“Light? Light!! Show Light Screen!!”, her panic only resided when the systems screen popped up right in front of her eyes.

  “Light!”

“...”, she moved her head from left to right, walking around and watching as the screen followed in her vision. “I don’ know wah that means...”

With the executive decision to ignore all that difficult stuff, she took her first steps to exit her little cavern home, noticing a large opening in the side that certainly wasn’t there before. She took in the false starlight the flora created with her new and improved eyes, walking up to one of the petrified trees and marvelling at how much smaller it seemed compared to its mountainous size when she used to fly through here.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“The light flowers!! They can’t get me at this size!”, She had always wanted to see them up close but didn’t want to risk its trap.

Her attempts to fly from the bottom of the short hole out to the flower fields ended only in falling over, her wings too small and weak to lift her new form. “Ow... mmh, bruised antenna...”

  “I try climbing.”

After some quick struggling, she managed to get out of the hole and directly in front of the flowers. “Mine!!” she thought with great joy as the stem snapped on her first victim and both flower and light fell down.

“Light friend!!!” she clicked her mouth in glee as she beheaded another flower channelling all of her wisdom and intelligence as she watched the harvest numbers go up. “OOHHH, I am very smart!!”

Storing this newfound knowledge away, she rushed through the field filling all four of her hands with all the things she could carry until she couldn’t stop dropping them.

  “Hold!! I SAID HOLD!!!”

  “WAH?! WHERE IT GO!?!?”

She looked between the screen and the flowers still in her hand, before try to push them through with half disappearing with a faint flash.

Looking over the screen multiple times, pulling and pushing things in and out of this magical storage, an idea struck her. “Show Light!”

Collecting up a bunch of pearls of the flowers, she referenced the screen and laid out all her stats other than Hp, which wasn’t important because she didn’t understand it.

“Mp is biggest at... 9, 10, 11!, but most can be twice that. Oh, it went down?”

“I understood that!! M stands for Mana! Yes!”

“Oohh, that feels bad. I think I sleep now.”, she thought, hugging her chest as she worked her way down back to the cave where it would be warmer, using her old cocoon to rest her head against as her first day came to an end.
