  That was the day when the birds stopped singing.

  You woke up feeling the worst headache you had in years. White noise buzzed in your skull as you tried to move. Slowly opening your eyes, a shadow with bright eyes blinks at you. You took a sharp breath, as if you had just come back from under water. Lone man helped you slowly sit up on his bed.

  “You’re awake... and you’re okay,” he muttered. He wrapped his arms around your shoulder and caressed your hair. “I’m so glad you’re awake.”

  His coldness pierced through your clothes. It felt comforting, until a pinch of bile guilt took a grip on your neck. The memories came back, rushing through your mind. You calling him “Lone Man”, and leading him back to town when everything else was going to hell were the moments that stuck to you.
