Chapter 16: Skeletons and Chains of Buddhism!

The woman led Xu Fang through the rain to a small house on the east side of the city. Turning back with an apologetic smile, she said, “Young master, my humble abode is simple. I hope you can forgive me.”

“Miss, I am already immensely grateful for your hospitality. How could I dare to complain?” Xu Fang replied as he entered the dwelling, taking a look around.

Just then, an elderly man, soaked from the rain and holding a wooden umbrella, hurried over. “Daughter, why did you return so late… Who is this young master?”

“This elder, this young man is a passerby seeking shelter from the rain. I hope you can accommodate him,” the woman replied.

Xu Fang’s keen gaze fixed on the old man. Though he lacked the famed Eyes of Fire, his True Immortal cultivation allowed him to see through the thick demonic energy surrounding the elder!

Demonic energy, akin to the vitality of humans, emanates from one’s essence. However, the two were distinctly different, making Xu Fang particularly sensitive to it.

“Not at all, as long as the young master doesn’t mind the simplicity,” the elder said hastily, ushering Xu Fang and the woman into the courtyard.

This modest dwelling appeared to belong to a family that was barely making ends meet, with an unkempt courtyard and walls that looked on the verge of collapsing from the rain.

“Your clothes are all wet. Here, wear this,” the old man said, handing Xu Fang a short coat. “Daughter, hurry and make some soup for the young master to warm him up.”

“Thank you, elder,” Xu Fang replied, quietly observing the old man’s actions without exposing him. He wanted to see what this father-daughter duo of demons was up to.

“Has anyone come to visit?” A frail old woman emerged from the inner room, leaning on a green willow cane as she looked at Xu Fang.

“Another demon…” Xu Fang turned his head slightly, narrowing his eyes.

“Mother, this young master is visiting relatives in the city and got caught in the rain, so he came here for shelter…” the beautiful woman quickly explained while helping her mother stabilize herself.

“You two sit; I’ll go prepare the food,” she added before casting a glance at Xu Fang and heading towards the kitchen in the west.

Xu Fang’s eyes lit up when he glanced toward the kitchen.

There stood a gigantic human-shaped skeleton, cleverly concealed beneath layers of demonic energy.

It was apparent that this woman had some skills—within just a short time, she prepared three dishes and a soup. After serving the steaming food, the elder and the old woman warmly invited Xu Fang to eat.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

  “Please, young master…”

“Thank you,” Xu Fang nodded and sat down.

However, as he lifted the bowl to his lips, he immediately detected an unusual scent wafting from it!

  Drugs for Bewitchment!

“This type of bewitching drug only works on mortals. It seems my breath-concealing technique has proven effective.”

Feigning a taste, Xu Fang suddenly collapsed to the ground with a loud thud!

“Haha, foolish human, truly unsuspecting!” the woman cackled, pushing Xu Fang with a hand. Seeing him unresponsive, she eagerly grabbed him, tearing open his shirt to take a closer sniff.

“Smooth skin, delicate and tender. This one looks promising…”

Yet just as she was about to sink her teeth into him, she felt a firm hand pressing against her forehead.

At the same time, Xu Fang's voice rang out, slightly puzzled, “I have a few questions that I’d like you to clarify for me. Would you be able to enlighten me?”

“You’re not unconscious?!” The woman jumped back, her surprise evident as she retreated several steps.

“Normally, even a newly awakened little demon wouldn’t need to go through such trouble to eat a human. Why must you bewitch me first?” Xu Fang’s voice echoed calmly, causing the three demon creatures to exchange wary glances.

  “You know I’m a demon!”

“Indeed.” Xu Fang nodded, his aura suddenly surging as he reverted to his True Immortal state!

“Are you a True Immortal?!” The three demons exclaimed in unison, shock plastered across their faces.

The rain continued to pour, but Xu Fang simply smiled at the trio. “Are you not going to enlighten me?”

Before they could respond, Xu Fang struck!

With the full force of his True Immortal strength unleashed, he slammed his palm down on the woman.

  Boom!

The impact was instant; she had no chance to react as she was pulverized into dust, scattering across the ground!

“Why was this demon so weak?” Xu Fang mused, a hint of confusion crossing his features.

Though he had struck with all his might, he had expected a demon at the Celestial Immortal level to withstand his attack far better than that.

After all, demons could cultivate both their spirit and physical body. These little demons might not be his match, but they shouldn’t be that fragile.

Sure enough, the elder roared in response to Xu Fang’s sudden aggression. “Don’t think I fear you just because you’re a True Immortal!”

With that, the heavy rain abruptly ceased!

The dilapidated courtyard transformed into a scene of chilling white bones. The old woman and the pulverized young woman’s remains quickly merged with the elder, who appeared to absorb them in an instant!

  Boom!

With a deafening explosion, the elder morphed into a pink skeleton, enveloped in dense demonic energy, his cultivation level abruptly rising to True Immortal as well!

Furthermore, a myriad of chains of Buddhist scripture filled the skeleton’s body, emanating golden light and a melodious sound that disturbed the soul!

“A Buddhist True Immortal? This is intriguing,” Xu Fang said, his eyes narrowing as he refrained from further action, wanting to see what this demon intended to do.

The elder’s transformation led Xu Fang to suspect the demon’s identity.

In the classic tale of Journey to the West, Sun Wukong encountered the White Bone Demon while escorting Tang Seng to the West. This was the infamous story of the three encounters with the White Bone Demon.

The very forms she took—the beautiful young woman, the old elder, and the frail old woman—were all manifestations of the White Bone Demon!

Could it be that he had just encountered the very same?

But what was the significance of the chains of Buddhist scripture entwined within her?

Before Xu Fang could unravel these thoughts, the White Bone Demon let out a ferocious howl, extending one of her bony claws toward him!

“Kid, since you dare meddle, you shall die!”

With that chilling shout, the massive pink skeleton lunged forward. Xu Fang remained calm, choosing not to act. Instead, flames erupted from beneath the ground.

The fierce flames enveloped the giant skeleton, consuming it in an instant!

“Shatter for me!” Xu Fang commanded.

In response, the pink skeleton exploded into countless fragments!
