Chapter 16: Jurassic Park

  Chapter Sixteen: Jurassic Park

New York, founded in 1624, is under the jurisdiction of New York State, and is the financial and economic center of the United States, its largest city and port. It is also one of the world's largest cities, ranking first among the three "world cities", with every move influencing the world. The population density is 10,456 people per square kilometer. The population of the New York metropolitan area is approximately 18 million. Although the city name is generally written as "New York City", the official name is actually "City of New York". It has jurisdiction over five districts: Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens (also known as Kings), and Staten Island. The city emblem is the Statue of Liberty.

However, unlike Los Angeles, New York City has a typical temperate continental climate, characterized by dryness and little rainfall, cold and dry winters, and hot and rainy summers. Although it is already March, the weather in New York is still cold. Walking through this bustling modern metropolis, Song Tang couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. This historic city, after a long period of development, has formed its unique economic and cultural characteristics. The New York City of 1992 was not much different from the modernized cities of Shanghai and Beijing in the 21st century. Alas, the gap between my own country and this highly developed capitalist nation is not just a matter of ten or twenty years. Perhaps in the near future, I should do something for my motherland, thought Song Tang.

After finishing the filming of "Vulgarity", Song Tang didn't take a rest and came to New York with his assistant Jessica the next day. Of course, Song Tang didn't come to New York for sightseeing, but his purpose was to see someone, specifically an author.

Michael Crichton, full name John Michael Crichton, born October 23, 1942, is a famous American best-selling author and film director/producer. His works are mostly action-packed with strong science and technology elements, earning him the title of "Father of Techno-thrillers". His writings frequently incorporate advanced medical technology, reflecting his medical training and scientific background.

In 1964, he enrolled in Harvard University's literature program, later switching to anthropology and taking pre-med courses. The following year, he re-enrolled at Harvard Medical School. Clayton admitted that during his university days, he plagiarized George Orwell, submitting his article as his own report and receiving a "B-", claiming it was a test of the school, not intentional deception. When studying literature, Clayton's reports always received low grades, which he believed were professors intentionally making things difficult, so he used this to test the professor's level, and later became disillusioned with Harvard's literature program, leading him to switch to anthropology. After graduating from medical school in 1969, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California, becoming a visiting scholar at MIT in 1988. His notable works include The Andromeda Strain, Terminal Man, The Great Train Robbery, and Jurassic Park.

The purpose of Song Tang's trip is to obtain the script adaptation rights for "Jurassic Park". This 1993 film, directed by the renowned Steven Spielberg, created a new record at the time with a box office revenue of $920 million, becoming an unattainable myth in the film industry until the 21st century. Even now, this film remains among the top ten highest-grossing films globally. For Song Tang, who has memories of his past life, it is impossible to give up on such a film that can achieve extremely high box office revenue and gain immense fame, as it has an unparalleled promotional effect on the development of modern-day Tang Dynasty.

"Song, the time you agreed with Mr. Ma is almost up, if you don't hurry back now, you'll be late, and that won't be good for your future work!" Just as Song Tang was lost in thought, Jessica, who was following beside him, spoke up to remind him.

"Thank you, Jessica!" Song Tang turned his head to look at the beauty beside him. Due to the cold weather, although Jessica was wearing a lot, she was still shivering with cold. Seeing Jessica's appearance, Song Tang felt a wave of emotion and heartache.

"Hehe, am I your assistant? Of course, I have to remind you!" Looking at Song Tang's concerned eyes, Jessica felt a warmth in her heart with a hint of sweetness.

  "Yes, my assistant!"

  "Hehe~~~"

When Song Tang and Jessica arrived at the coffee shop where they were supposed to meet Michael Crichton, they still had some time before their scheduled meeting. The two of them discussed how to persuade Michael to get the adaptation rights for Jurassic Park.

Not long after, a casually dressed Mike appeared in front of Song Tang. This year, 50-year-old Mike did not look old at all, still spirited and robust.

When they saw Michael Crichton arrive, Song Tang and Jessica hastily stood up and exchanged a typical American greeting with him.

"Hello! Mr. Michael Clayton, I am Song Tang, the CEO of Da Tang Film Industry, and this beautiful lady beside me is my assistant Jessica Alba."

"Hello! Mr. Michael Clayton." At this time, Jessica also politely asked Michael hello.

"Hehe, no need to be polite young people, I'm very happy to meet you both. I wonder what brought the two of you out today?" Mack asked as he sat down at the coffee table.

"Hehe, since Mr. Mai is so direct, I won't beat around the bush either." Song Tang said after organizing his thoughts.

Ma Ke took a sip of the coffee that the waiter had just brought over and gestured to Song Tang with his hand.

Mr. Song and Mr. Tang also didn't beat around the bush, directly saying: "It's like this, Mr. Crichton. In the next few months, our company will be filming a science fiction movie with dinosaurs as the theme. After discussion within the company, we have decided to use your 'Jurassic Park' as the subject matter for filming. However, this requires your approval. Do you agree?"

After finishing speaking, Song Tang looked at Mike calmly and quietly, waiting for his response.

After listening to Song Tang's words, Mai Ke didn't respond immediately, but instead took a sip of coffee and asked: "Am I right in understanding that your company wants the adaptation rights for the screenplay of Jurassic Park?"

"Yes, Mr. Maike." Song Tang replied simply and clearly.

"What is the budget for your company's production of this film?" Mike asked.

"It's expected to be around $70 million." Song Tang replied after a moment of thought.

"Which director is your company planning to use for filming?"

"Steven Spielberg." Song Tang thought for a moment, and still decided to let Spielberg shoot this film, because he would prepare to shoot another classic film, which might not be timely.

"Oh, although I hadn't heard of your company before, now I believe it's still very powerful. And Steven, I know him, an excellent director. He has made several classic films, like 'Jaws' and 'Alien', which are all classics." Mack said with no disguise in praising Steven.

"Yes! I believe Mr. Steven's Jurassic Park will create a miracle in Mr. Steven's hands, won't it, Mr. Steven?" Song Tang chimed in.

"Haha, young man, I have to say you're excellent and you've convinced me. Although I've decided to give you the adaptation rights of Jurassic Park's script, but I still have a condition," said Michael.

"Oh, thank you very much, Mr. Mike, I wonder if there are any other conditions?" Song Tang asked curiously.

"Hehe, don't be nervous, young CEO. My question is that after the adaptation is completed in your company, I want to see the script. If it doesn't meet my requirements, I have the right to withdraw the adaptation rights." Mack said with a smile.

"This is it, Mr. Crichton." With that, he nodded to Jessica beside him, who then handed over the revised Jurassic Park script she had prepared earlier for Michael to read.

Mike saw that Song Tang had all the scripts ready and couldn't help but feel a little surprised, but still took over the script handed over by Jessica and looked at it carefully.

About ten minutes later, after finishing the script and handing it back to Jessica, Mike said with excitement: "It's really amazing, I didn't expect your company to be so well-prepared, and the revised script is excellent, I think it's even better than my original work."

Upon hearing Mike's praise, Song Tang couldn't help but feel happy, however he still asked Mike: "I don't know, Mr. Mike, what about the issue of adaptation rights?"

"Wishing your company success and a pleasant cooperation!" Mack didn't directly respond to Song Tang's question, but instead offered words of blessing.

Seeing Maike respond like this, if Song Tang still didn't understand Maike's meaning, then he would be too stupid. So he also happily said: "Nice doing business with you, Mr. Maike!"
