96 - Deal or No Deal Landing a Location!

The Riverdale branch of the World Amusement Park Association.

  A young guy showed up.

He wasn't tall, skinny as a rail, and his hair looked like a bird's nest. The dark circles under his eyes were like he’d put on smoky eyeshadow.

He looked like he’d been burning the candle at both ends, a total burnout.

Even the old security guard took pity on him, clearing his throat, "Hey kid, don't overdo it when you're young, or you'll regret it later!"

The young guy frowned, "Dude, I'm still a virgin!"

He shook his head with a wry smile and walked into the office.

He was a graduating director student at Riverdale Art University.

The school required every director student to submit a final project before graduation.

The project had to pass the professors’ review to graduate.

He had been busting his butt to make his film stand out.

From choosing the subject matter to writing the script and casting the actors, it took a lot of effort.

He hadn't slept well for more than two weeks, burning the midnight oil!

That's how he'd become this walking zombie.

Luckily, the only thing missing now was the filming location.

This time, he was filming a survival movie, about a group of hikers trapped in a primitive jungle, escaping the pursuit of various prehistoric creatures on a self-made raft.

The best place to film a movie like that was, of course, a real jungle like the Amazon.

But money was tight. After paying the actors and the post-production special effects, he only had five grand left.

Five grand wouldn't even cover the expenses for the whole crew for a few days, let alone a trip to the Amazon.

Out of desperation, he thought of the Hyper Velocity Coaster rides at amusement parks.

Filming in that kind of place didn't exactly have that jungle survival vibe, but what could he do when he was broke?

Besides, it was just a graduation project, not a Hollywood blockbuster.

It didn't matter if some things were a little rough around the edges. As long as the shots and pacing were good, the professors wouldn't nitpick.

"Hey, I'm looking to rent a Hyper Velocity Coaster ride for a day. I’ve got five grand. Can you ask the amusement parks if anyone's willing to rent it out to me?"

He explained his request to the friendly customer service representative at the counter.

"Sure, sir, just take a seat and relax. I'll contact the amusement park managers." She politely replied, picking up the phone and calling the various amusement parks.

He sat on the sofa, wondering which park would agree.

"I hope it's Steiny Amusement Park!"

He'd gone to check out the Hyper Velocity Coaster at Steiny a few days ago. It was a world-class amusement park for a reason: it was exciting and realistic, exactly what he needed.

"Filming at Steiny’s Hyper Velocity Coaster would be awesome. I could use a green screen and add the prehistoric creatures in post-production."

"If Steiny doesn't work out, Square Amusement Park is also okay, even if their Hyper Velocity Coaster is a little too man-made."

He daydreamed for about half an hour when the customer service representative's sweet voice called out again.

  "Sir!"

"One amusement park has agreed to your location rental request!"

He jumped to his feet, rushing to the counter, "Which amusement park agreed?"

  "Is it Steiny Amusement Park?"

  She shook her head.

He sighed, but quickly looked up, his eyes filled with hope.

"Then is it Square Amusement Park?"

"Nope." She shook her head again.

  His expression went blank.

  "Kidtopia?"

  "No?"

  "Happy Valley Amusement Park?"

  "Uh... no."

He rattled off a few parks, but got a negative answer every time, and he started to get frustrated.

  "None of those?"

"Which amusement park is it then?"

He believed those were the only parks in Riverdale with suitable Hyper Velocity Coasters.

The Hyper Velocity Coaster at the other amusement parks was completely artificial, just for kids!

"Starlight Amusement Park accepted." The customer service representative revealed.

"Starlight Amusement Park?" He said, confused. "Isn't that the amusement park that's about to go bankrupt? And I looked it up before, they don't seem to have a Hyper Velocity Coaster ride."

"Starlight Amusement Park just opened a Hyper Velocity Coaster yesterday, so it's normal that you don't know."

"Besides Starlight, there are no other amusement parks?" He asked reluctantly. "What was Steiny's response? Did they reject it outright, or did they have any special requirements?"

"Steiny and a few other amusement parks said you’d have to pay extra."

"Pay extra..." His eyes immediately dimmed, and he said weakly, "Okay, then it's Starlight Amusement Park. Give me Uncle Eric's phone number. I might need it in the next few days."

After getting the phone number, he called Jake and talked to him for about ten minutes, finalizing the rental date and some details.

  "Man, life is hard!"

"I wonder what Starlight Amusement Park's Hyper Velocity Coaster is like, and whether it can meet my filming needs!"

"If I had a little more money, I could use Steiny's facilities!"

After hanging up the phone, he sighed for a long time.

A little later, he showed up at a film studio in Riverdale, to rent some monster props to set up the filming location tomorrow.

After all, besides the rushing river, various prehistoric creatures are indispensable in a primitive jungle.

He couldn't get real prehistoric creatures, but he could get some fake ones and add special effects in post-production!
