Part 1 Chapter 8: Chatters in the dark

Lucky for Alina, Jeremy finished his story right before Zack had called him over or he would've left her hanging. She probably didn't even feel Jeremy leaving. Parents abandoning their children for the new earth. Is the new earth this glorious or was the old earth this glum and inhabitable but her shut-in lifestyle has blinded her from seeing it.

Zack is keeping an eye through one of the windows overlooking the airport's gates. He points to Jeremy how the guards have increased exponentially since the morning when Zack first arrived. They were supposed to get less and they both know why this happened. They’re after Alina.

Zack is mad and Jeremy’s attempt to calm him is failing. Fortunately for Jeremy, the sound of bikes inside the blocks interrupts them. Zack and Jeremy head to where the sound is coming from and along the way they wonder where did everyone disappear in the block? That thought didn’t stay long as they saw a motorcycle bolting between the aisles.

“What are you doing!! we’re trying to lay low!” said Zack furious.

“We’re teaching them to ride, '' said Derek, referring to the three siblings, Lilliana, Alina, and Drake all practicing on one bike, Derek’s bike.

“Let me join in, I'll bring my bike” Jeremy said all excited forgetting everything that Zack just told him.

“No one touches my bike,” said Zack “I need to go check something” added Zack, leaving upon seeing the charade.

The boys and the three siblings are bored, waiting around till the morning arrives and with Alina’s new confidence from her last encounter with the humanoids, and new respect and outlook into the life from Jeremy’s story, she approached Charles to teach her how to ride the bike. Which didn’t take long to convince him, since he too was bored. And along came the others. And now with two bikes, Derek’s and Jeremy’s bike, the training started going.

After just one hour Alina, Lilliana and Drake are all riding along the aisles like professionals.

But the bikes grew boring too and it was only 8 pm and the boys grew weary confined in one place. Alina suggests to entertain, being an expert of locking herself in. They played bingo with the items in the shelves where each member picks a shelf. And that shelf is their bingo card. And Alina’s mom, Mona, joined in naming random objects and the first to gather 10 items wins. Everyone got very competitive and they played all night.

But that got boring too and excitement was needed and Alina had the crazy suggestion to let Charles and Derek teach the three siblings how to use the guns. Unloaded of course. It is the first time for Alina and Lilliana to hold a gun. Derek thought it was useless since no weapons will be allowed in the new earth. And Charles took it as an opportunity to say goodbye to his guns.

Alina couldn’t sleep getting all excited hanging out with other people her age and playing and having no worries. She wondered why she stopped leaving her house. Being with others is so much fun. She can ride a bike now and shoot a gun. Two skills won’t be needed in the new earth but she gets to say she has done it.

It wasn’t just her but Lilliana too was awake and Lilliana had an idea. It was dark and the sisters went out to search the other blocks for their tablets and after a while they found them. They weren’t working of course but they sat together and remembered all the things they used to search together and all the games they played.

The sisters went back to block A017 and Alina is excited she head to the corner where the boys are staying

  “Where’re you going?” said Lilliana

“To go tell Jeremy about my tablet”

“Ahaaa to tell him about the tablets..only the tablet”

“Shut up stupid” said Alina, embarrassed and annoyed at her sister’s snarkiness. It doesn't matter what Lilliana said, Jeremy is her friend and she’ll go meet him. As she got close she heard murmuring, and she felt happy he might be awake to talk to him.

As she got close the murmuring sounded more like pickering.

“He wants the girl,” Alina heard Zack say to Jeremy and Charles, before Jeremy walks away to another direction. Alina couldn't comprehend what she heard, she must be mistaken, or are they still discussing the earlier encounter with the humanoids. If she asked Jeremy about it would he answer her? He looks mad now, they all do. It must be nothing. Zack was annoyed and angry since before she even met him.

“Can we even trust him?” said Alina to half asleep Lilliana as soon as she got back.

“What’s this all of a sudden I thought you liked him” said Lilliana

  “Not Jeremy! I meant Zack”

“Ahhhh so you do like Jeremy”

  “Oh just shut up”

And so Alina decided to ignore it and go back to sleep. Tomorrow is a big day.
