Chapter 124: Second Nightly Visit

After discovering another way to use Telekinesis, Hazel spent the last several hours practicing her movements and flight capabilities. There were times when she had to take a break due to her mana running low, but to her surprise, it took quite a while before her mana reserves hit their limit. However, that was mostly when she was just moving around while under the effects of the spell. In terms of when she flew around, her mana was consumed a lot faster, which proved to be informative for her.

But simply moving around with her Telekinesis spell activated wouldn’t do much if she didn’t know how to properly utilize this ability, which she decided to call Telekinetic Mobility, in combat. So, the best way to accomplish this was simple. She needed to fight some monsters.

Thankfully, because she was so busy working on her Telekinetic mobility, time flew by in a flash, and it soon became nighttime. Hazel was a bit surprised when she noticed that the sun was gone once she was done training her skills, showing just how engrossed she was in her tests.

Of course, this saved her a lot of time since she could now just fly over to Portland to perform some more tests. Putting her Telekinetic mobility training on hold for a brief moment, Hazel took the opportunity to summon Nycteris like the previous night while also messaging Astrid to come up to the roof.

By the time she was done calling her familiar back, Astrid emerged through the door that led back into the building.

“So, your message said that we were going back to Portland?” The dark elf asked.

Hazel nodded. “I have a new technique to perfect and also more spiders to farm for XP.” A wicked smile appeared on her face as she declared this.

Astrid could only sigh, not even bothering to tell off Hazel about her habit of making that devious and evil grin.

“Alright, let’s get moving then,” The dark elf then made her way over to Nycteris, already climbing on the Nightwing bat.

Once Astrid was on Nycteris, both waited for Hazel to jump on as well. However, the witch simply stayed where she was, not even attempting to climb on her familiar. Her companions grew curious about her behavior, unsure of what she was doing.

“What are you waiting for, Hazel? Let’s go.” She reached her hand out, offering to help pull her up.

Seeing the gesture, Hazel shook her head, declining the invitation while maintaining the same smile.

“I want to try and get to Portland on my own this time,” She declared. “Call it practice for what I’m going to do there.”

Astrid stared dumbfoundedly at her companion, clearly confused by her statement. “And how exactly do you plan to get to Portland from here? Did you discover some kind of teleportation spell that would transport you to your destination or something?”

  “Not exactly.”

Before Astrid could utter another word, her eyes suddenly widened in shock as she witnessed Hazel begin to float above the ground. Even Nycteris was surprised at what he was seeing as both the dark elf and Familiar stared in awe at their companion’s sudden flight.

Seeing their expressions, Hazel laughed, unable to contain herself.

“H-how are you doing that?” Astrid questioned, bewilderment still written across her face.

“With my Telekinesis spell,” She explained. “Since I’m able to control things without touching them, it got me wondering if I could apply the spell on myself. And sure enough, I can.”

  “So, you can fly now...?”

“Only for a bit before I run out of mana. But I should have enough to fly over to Portland on my own. That and maintain a certain speed to keep my mana from completely draining too fast.”

While Hazel was able to fly around like a superhero, there was a limit to how long she could before her mana was fully depleted. Then other variables regarding her Telekinetic flight would also increase her mana consumption. But, if she maintained a certain speed to where she recovered enough mana thanks to Wisdom, she should theoretically be able to make it to Portland before she ran out of energy.

“Alright, let’s get a move on. The night is young and we have plenty of things to do tonight, don’t we?”

Not giving Astrid a moment to speak, Hazel flew toward Portland at a moderate speed. It didn’t take long before Nycteris took flight, and the pair followed behind the flying witch. Once they were both in the air, the trio made their way over to Portland for another nightly visit.

While flying in the sky, Hazel noticed that she couldn’t feel the wind blowing against her face. If anything, she felt nothing, as if something was blocking it. It didn’t take long before she figured that this was likely the work of the Telekinetic field enveloped around her body.

So, not only was she able to move her body through telekinesis, but she also acted as a sort of shield around her. If she properly utilized this telekinetic barrier, then she might even be able to defend herself against certain attacks.

The corner of her lips slightly curled up as a result of her new discovery regarding her Telekinesis spell. The more she tried to be creative with the spell, the more applications she found involving it. First, she could envelop a telekinetic field around herself that would let her move around faster and, most importantly, fly, and now there was a possibility that she could also use this spell as a sort of shield.

Things were just getting better and better for Hazel. Now she became even more curious as to what else this spell alone could do. Just the thought of her experimenting with Telekinesis and discovering more features involving it made her giddy.

Several minutes passed before they soon arrived at their destination, and just as Hazel theorized, she managed to make it there before her mana was completely depleted. Getting to Portland, the trio targeted the nearest building that was outside the spider queen’s range and landed there.

“I have to say, you keep surprising me every time, you know that?” Astrid said, clearly still not over witnessing Hazel flying like that. “You have any more tricks up your sleeve?”

Hazel shrugged with a sly grin on her face. “Who knows? Only time will tell.”

Saying nothing else, Hazel walked over to the edge. Then, with the help of her Astral Eyes, she attempted to scope out the area in search of her latest prey. While doing this, she then struck up a conversation with Astrid regarding another subject that needed to be discussed.

“I’m going to be a bit busy, so why don’t you search around the city for clues of Dolk's whereabouts? Who knows, you might find him roaming the area if you’re lucky.”

Aside from fighting monsters and farming XP from the spider swarm, Hazel brought Astrid with her so she could search for her former companion who betrayed her. She could tell that the dark elf was anxious to try and locate Dolk after their previous encounter. Honestly, Hazel couldn’t blame her for what she went through.

If Hazel was betrayed by her closest friend and was nearly killed by them, she would’ve stopped at nothing to try and find the bastard and kill him once and for all. And she knew that Astrid wanted to do this as well. The way she lunged at Dolk and attacked him like a rabid animal...it was clear as day that she wanted that treacherous bastard she could hardly call a dark elf dead.

And while Hazel wanted to help Astrid in dealing with him, she was aware that despite everything they’d been through in the Fractured Dungeon, this wasn’t her business. It was Astrid’s, and she couldn’t get in the way of that. But, Hazel could at least allow her to look for Dolk while they were within the city.

They wouldn’t have a lot of time to do this during the day, but it was different at nighttime. They weren’t busy with their respective groups, dealing with the spider queen’s swarm attacks. At night, Astrid had all the freedom to search for Dolk and put an end to his life. And that was what Hazel was providing for her.

Astrid hesitated to say anything, wearing a pensive expression on her face. That was enough to convince Hazel that she desperately wanted to search for Dolk, but wasn’t certain that it should be her priority.

“You don’t have to worry about me, Astrid,” Hazel told her. “I have Nycteris by my side. And let’s not forget that before we met, I was doing pretty well on my own.”

“And yet you still decided to try and team up with me,” The dark elf remarked, a slight grin appearing on her face.

Hazel could hardly keep herself from smiling back in response. “That was because I knew that having more people around me would guarantee my survival. Much like you, even if we didn’t team up, my chances of surviving were still high as long as I was careful.”

Astrid scoffed in response, likely finding her comment amusing. “Yeah, whatever you say.”

“For now, you should get going and use the time you have here. Just be careful and avoid the Spider Queen’s range for now. I’ll be triggering her detection soon, but I want a little warm-up before getting to the main event.” She declared with a wicked smile.

“Alright then. Guess I'll be off then,” Astrid said while turning her back to them. “Be careful while I’m gone, okay?”

  “No promises,” Hazel bantered.

With nothing more to say, the dark elf walked over to the edge of the roof they were on before jumping off, leaving Hazel and Astrid’s sight in an instant. As soon as Astrid was gone, Hazel turned her attention back to her Astral Eyes, scoping out the area.

Now that her companion was busy with her business, it was time for her to get started with hers. It was now time to do some hunting.
