To Be a Hero: The Devils Among Us tells the tales of a Vanator--a hunter of magic, magical beasts, and all those who practice the dark arts. It begins with him telling the reader about the elation he feels watching these devils be burnt alive but by the end of the first case that is all revealed to be a lie. The truth is, this Vanator gets no pleasure from condemning these demons to their fiery deaths. He believes it is what must be done but cannot deny the sympathy he feels for some of the monsters.
