Sams Weekend

Eun-jae hadn't texted me, followed me, or tried to contact me in any way; Sam must've really scared him. It was good that he wasn't stalking me anymore, but I was oddly disappointed that I hadn't seen or heard from him.

It was Saturday, and the sun was shining, I couldn't waste the day inside, so I went to the beach. It wasn't warm enough to go into the water, but it was nice to be at the beach, with the sound of the waves crashing against the sand.

I saw a gorgeous woman who looked familiar, walking in my direction; she was the one who'd saved me from a mugger when I was walking home. She had super speed, and said she helped people, but she didn't want to be a hero. If my memory was right, her name was Violet. I walked over, hoping she'd remember me.

"Hey, I don't know if you remember me, but you saved me from a mugger a while ago."

"Don't worry, I remember you." She smiled.

"Oh good, I was worried you wouldn't," I said.

"I never forget someone I've saved."

"You must have a very good memory. Your name's, Violet, right?"

  "Thanks, it is. You're Cara."

  "I am." I nodded.

"It's nice to see you again, and under better circumstances," Violet said.

We walked along the beach together, on the firm, wet sand because it was much harder to walk in the dry sand.

"Thanks, it's good to see you too. I thought I might've seen you before now."

Violet had saved me on my way home, so I thought she might've been walking in the area, and we would've seen each other.

"I saw you a few times walking home, but you didn't need any help, you always had someone walking home with you."

"Oh, you should've said hello, I didn't see you. My friends started walking me home after that guy tried to attack me," I said.

  "I didn't want to interrupt. I'm assuming they're heroes."

"They are." I nodded. "I'm glad that the people I work with are so friendly. Thankfully, there was only one other incident with a guy trying to attack us, my friend dealt with him."

"I'm glad, I wouldn't want you getting hurt," Violet replied.

"Thanks. Have you saved many other people?"

"Yeah, a few. Sometimes I just follow vulnerable people in case anything happens. Like I'll follow a drunk woman, or a woman who's alone, sometimes they need to be saved, but other times they're fine."

"It's great that you do that. I'd definitely feel safe if you were walking me home."

I'd feel as safe with Violet as my friends, since she had powers that she could use to defend people, and she'd saved me before.

"Aww, that's sweet, you're safe when you're with me, I wouldn't let anyone hurt you." She smiled.

"And if you got hurt, I'd heal you."

"Thank you. How has the hero job been going?"

"Great, I still love it. I'm still not great at dealing with villains or anything, but I'm trying to improve. I almost dealt with a robber, but my stalker saved me," I said.

  "Your stalker?" Violet frowned.

"I met a guy, Eun-jae a few times. He saved me twice in the one day, and just seemed a bit suspicious, then we caught him following me home. It's a shame, he seemed so nice." I sighed.

Violet stopped walking for a moment, as if she was shocked or uneasy.

"That's not good, what happened to him?"

"My friend threatened him, I haven't seen or heard from him since then."

"Good, you don't want someone like that in your life," Violet replied.

"Yeah, I think you're right, it's just annoying because I actually liked him."

"I hate when you like someone, then you find all their red flags, so I get you."

"Although, you follow people, you're a bit like a stalker." I laughed.

"The difference is, I don't follow the same person out of obsession. I follow multiple people to keep them safe."

"I know, and I'm glad that you do. It's nice to know that there are people like you out there, looking out for others... I'm curious, why do you stop muggers and other creeps?"

"I just hate people like that, they boil my blood... I suppose my past has some influence on it, my ex was an abusive asshole."

"I'm the same. My ex kept me trapped inside, nearly all the time. I'm only free because someone killed him, but I've no idea who did it or why." I shrugged.

"Oh, that's mad. How do you feel about it?"

"This won't sound good, but I'm glad he's dead. I'm so grateful to the person who killed him."

  "I was too."

"What do you mean?" I frowned.

"My boyfriend was murdered, as well," Violet replied.

"Really? You're not joking?" It seemed weird that Violet had such a similar past to me.

"I swear I'm not. If he hadn't been killed, I wouldn't be doing what I am now. I'm so grateful to the person who murdered him."

"I understand. I honestly support people who murder abusers and rapists, especially since they don't always get caught and go to jail," I said.

"Same! It can be so hard to prove things like abuse."

"So, moving on to a lighter subject, what's it like giving super speed?"

"It's so cool. I love getting to places much faster than pedestrians or vehicles. It's also really helpful when I'm saving people from creeps," she replied.

"Oh, I know it is, I got to see it first hand." I smiled.

I talked to Violet for a while longer, and it was nice getting to know her more, and finding out that we had a similar past.

"I loved hanging out with you, but I have to go and plan work strategies," Violet said.

"Wow, working on the weekend, that's awful."

"It's not great, but it pays the bills."

We said goodbye, then I decided to go to a café because I was hungry. I got into my car, then drove to the closest café, and went in. I bought a cottage pie and a bun; while looking for a seat, I spotted Sam sitting on his own. It surprised me — Sam was always busy at the weekend. He never let anyone hang out with him because he spent time with his family, but no one was with him. I walked, over.

"Hey, Sam, I never thought I'd see you at the weekend." I shook my head.

"Unfortunately, my family cancelled, so now I'm here, having lunch," Sam replied, and I sat down opposite him.

"Oh, you should've told us, we could've had a party at your house." I smiled.

The party at Sam's house the last time had been really fun, and his house was wonderful.

"Is that all you wanted me for over the weekend?" Sam asked, looking unimpressed.

It made me feel awkward, now he probably thought I only wanted to hang out with him because of his house.

"No, that's not what I meant. All of us like you, so it'd be nice to spend time together over the weekend."

"You really like me that much?" Sam asked.

"Why wouldn't I?" I frowned. "I like hanging out with you, you're friendly, caring and fun to be around."

Sam was acting weird again, and I couldn't understand why — it wasn't like we'd just dealt with a psycho or a stalker. Maybe he didn't like me disturbing him over the weekend, after all, he never saw anyone from work over the weekend.

  "Thanks."

"Uh, I think I'm disturbing you, I'll go sit somewhere else. Sorry."

"No, stay, you're not disturbing me," Sam replied.

  "Really? I thought I was."

"Sorry, I'm just not myself today. My family cancelling put me in a bad mood, I didn't mean to take it out on you." Sam sighed.

"Oh, that's okay. It's a shame that they cancelled, but now you're free for the day," I said.

"I love that you're looking on the bright side."

"Oh, you have to. Like, when we deal with horrible people, I always think, at least they can't hurt anyone anymore."

"That's true. You know, you always manage to look beautiful, even without any effort." Sam smiled.

"Oh, thanks, so do you." My cheeks felt hot.

"Seriously though, it's great to spend time with you outside of work, we can relax with no stress."

I was surprised that Sam said that, since he didn't seem very happy to see me a few minutes ago.

"I like it too, I literally never see you at the weekend. You wouldn't even let me stay over when I was really drunk after the party," I said.

"Oh, I couldn't let you stay over, I'd end up wanting you to move in with me, and I don't think you'd want to leave either. I can't be having that, the media and fans would go mad." Sam chuckled.

"I'd definitely move into your house, it's the best." I laughed.

"See? I'm sure the others would be jealous of me, getting to spend so much time with you, it wouldn't be fair to them."

  "I guess."

"Are you still enjoying being a hero?"

"Definitely, it's the best job ever," I replied with a smile.

"I'm glad you still feel that way. That Eun-jae guy hasn't bothered you again, has he?"

"Nope, I haven't seen or heard from him since you threatened him."

Sam had done a good job of scaring off Eun-jae, he'd been very menacing and quite unlike himself.

"Good, I don't want him anywhere near you," Sam said.

"I genuinely think you terrified him, so he won't come near me."

  "Well, that was the point."

"So, what are your plans for tomorrow?" I asked.

"I'm hoping to see my family. If not, I'll relax at home."

"I'm definitely relaxing at home tomorrow, that's what Sundays are for."

"Nothing beats a lazy Sunday." He smiled.

  "Definitely."

I finished eating, the food had been delicious. It was nice to eat out occasionally, I loved not having to prepare or cook.

A phone started ringing and it was the Imperial March from Star Wars, or as I called it, the Darth Vader song. Sam took out his phone, then answered it. That definitely wasn't his usual ringtone, maybe this was his personal phone, instead of a work one.

"Hello, what's up?" Sam asked. The person talked to him, but the volume was too low for me to hear anything. "Alright, I'll be there as soon as I can." He hung up.

  "Is everything alright?" I asked.

"Yep, my family have changed their minds, they now want to meet up again. Sorry, I have to go, I'll see you on Monday."

  "See you on Monday."

He rushed away, and I left as well, since I was finished eating my food. It had been pleasant to see Sam over the weekend; I'd have to tell everyone about it when I went to work.

“Oh, I couldn't let you stay over, I'd end up wanting you to move in with me, and I don't think you'd want to leave either. I can't be having that, the media and fans would go mad.” Sam chuckled.
