Carveday

“So let me get this straight,” Roper said as he walked alongside Ashley the next night. “You met an elf, who wants you to be her partner in some kind of creature fight club?”

“That’s the gist of it,” Ashley grinned before taking a sip of the soda she had in her hand. “The prize is some really good money.”

“You know I’m all about money,” Roper smirked at that response. “But I gotta wonder… what would a bunch of creatures even do with money?”

“Don’t know, don’t care because it’s gonna be all mine,” Ashley said.

“What about your partner?” Roper asked.

“Yeah, I guess her too,” Ashley said. She stopped when they arrived at a secluded building.

“…You sure this is the place?” Roper asked, rubbing a hand on the back of his head. “I mean, I know these are creeps and creatures you’re dealing with, but it looks like a dump.”

“This is where she said to meet,” Ashley shrugged. “Besides, like you just said, should we really expect more from the kind of freaks I fight every day?”

“There you are!” Reese’s voice was heard from the shadows. She made her way out of an eager grin, “I thought you were gonna keep me waiting all night and make us miss the big fight night.”

Her eyes then went to Roper, “Who’s this?”

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“What? Ash didn’t tell you about her partner in crime?” Roper asked, giving Ashley a fake look of hurt. “Weak. The one who carries should always get a mention.”

Ashley didn’t look at her best friend, only giving him the finger in response. “So where’s the fight? This is where you said to meet but the place is a dump and all I see is you.”

Reese laughed. “That’s because the fight’s not here.”

“I’m thinking this chick might be a little nutty, Ash,” Roper said. “She probably just wanted to get you to come all the way out for some sick kick.”

“Oh, but you’re wrong, Ashley’s friend,” Reese said, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small purple skull head with black eyes.

“The hell’s that supposed to be?” Ashley asked.

“This is our way to the fight,” Reese said. “It’s called an Underskel. It takes you either to Carveday or here.”

“The Hell’s a Carveday?” Roper asked.

“Oh, you’ll love it!” Reese beamed in excitement. “It’s the place to be… um…what’s your name?”

  “Roper,” Roper replied.

“Gotcha! Anyway, Carveday is the underworld of Grise Park where freaks like us go to for events like this, vacations, shopping, and all kinds of other stuff,” Reese explained.

“Wait, so you’re telling me there’s some kind of secret underworld?” Roper asked.

“Not a secret,” Reese corrected with a grin. “It’s just that the folks up here who aren’t like us don’t really bother to ask, you know, because they’re always busy running in terror or something.”

“A lot of people in this town due tend to do that,” Ashley smirked. “Must suck not to have a spine.”

“Tell me about it!” Reese giggled. “Anyway, we should get going. It’ll be starting soon.”

  “Lead on,” Ashley said.

Reese nodded and held the Underskel closer to her face, “Underskel, take us to the Carveday Carnage Club.”

The Underskel’s eyes light up. The three found themselves surrounded by a purple aura. A flash would soon come, blinding Ashley and Roper for a moment.

When it was over, the two looked around. They weren’t in Grise Park any longer. Instead, they found themselves surrounded by various creatures that were making their way inside the club.

“Welcome to Carveday!” Reese said cheerfully, putting her Underskel away. “You’ll have such a good time here tonight!”

Ashley looked at the all the various creatures that walked past. There were more elfs, bird-like creatures, and goblins. All different kinds of sizes. A smirk crept onto the reaper woman’s face.

“I can tell we are,” Ashley said. “Let’s not keep our audience waiting. Let’s get in there and kick all kinds of ass. What do you say, Reese?”

“Now you’re talking!” Reese beamed. “Let’s do this and have the time of our lives, Ashley!”

The three of them then headed inside.
