Chapter 22: Star fruit tree

Nina, who had just obtained her first Universal Points, was in a good mood. Now, she would be able to purchase an inventory and store her belongings. Meanwhile, Silas, like a primal being from the boonies, still had to carry his belongings on his back.

Things were now a little easier. Since Nina had acquired her first Universal Points, Silas could share a portion of his Universal Points with her for each kill. This would further enable her to gain Evolution Points by consuming monster meat, as she had been recognized as a personal assistant by the system. This loosened the restriction that previously prevented people who didn’t kill from obtaining Evolution Points from beast meat.

Silas now shared 15% of the Universal Points obtained from his kills with Nina. This arrangement wasn’t part of any contract, and no one could force him to do it. Silas did this willingly, as Nina was now part of his strength. If she improved, it would only benefit him. Silas did this without a second thought, as if it were second nature.

When the notification appeared in front of her, Nina was shocked. She realized she would receive 15% of the points from every kill without putting in any effort. She hadn’t expected him to do such a thing for her. Her eyes grew moist, and she clenched her fists with determination, nodding as if she had come to a conclusion. Silas, who was watching her antics from the side, could only shake his head inwardly, knowing exactly what she was thinking.

After settling their matters, they both began moving toward the middle of the dungeon in search of the dungeon boss.

The monsters that came slamming toward Silas were dealt with effortlessly. However, someone was even more excited than Silas. Nina, who had made Silas’s mane her home, was swinging left and right, cheering excitedly as she counted the gains. Silas, with a bunch of giant spears on his back, had already started clearing out the Subterranean Widow layer, earning him more than 1,400 points and 100 points for Nina, bringing the total gain to 1,500 points.

Silas decided to purchase the inventory, even though Silas felt he could add more spears to it. However, carrying more spears would only increase his unwanted load and potentially affect his agility. Without hesitation, Silas purchased the inventory. Soon, an inventory feature, arranged in a grid-style pattern like those in games, appeared before his eyes. With a single thought, Silas added all the spears to his inventory.

There was something Silas needed to test out that has been pestering him for along time. If it worked, he could easily get rich in the human world. Silas was excited to return to the human world and test it, but he didn’t let himself get distracted. He still had a dungeon to clear.

Pushing all distracting thoughts to the back of his mind, Silas strode forward, clearing the dungeon mobs as he went.

Three hours passed in the blink of an eye. Silas now stood at the edge of a valley, looking ahead. He saw a sea of boiling lava surrounding a huge mountain. The mountain was adorned with glowing red crystals, and at its peak stood a massive tree overlooking the entire dungeon. Silas was shocked and muttered, “Is this tree the dungeon boss? And it even grew a fruit. Will a spider pop out of the fruit and fight me when I get near it?”

His eyes gleamed as he asked, “Nina, do you know about this tree?”

Nina was speechless at Silas’s words. To be honest, she was also momentarily dazed. She hadn’t expected to see such a tree in a low-level dungeon. Based on her knowledge, such a tree shouldn’t exist in any dungeon, and even high-tier dungeons didn’t have enough energy to nurture something like this.

“This is a Star Fruit Tree,” Nina said. “It looks like it’s fruit is about mature. Young Master, it seems you’re in luck.”

Silas wasn’t sure what she was getting at, so he asked, “Will it be like a World Tree? A star will be born in each one of the fruits?”

“No,” Nina rolled her eyes. “Young Master, don’t dream while standing here. This can’t be compared to the World Tree worshipped by the elven race. But it’s still a sacred tree protected by Star Wolves and very important to them. I’m not sure who planted it here and is trying to grow it secretly. Young Master, you should definitely get this tree. Each Star Fruit Tree can nurture a Star Wolf, and the tree withers after birthing one. It might be quite useful to you.”

Silas nodded, but his thoughts were elsewhere. A Star Wolf, with the body of a Nyxian Pride, would provide limited assistance to him. But if his human body could obtain it, it would offer significant support.

Silas wasn’t foolish enough to think he was lucky to stumble upon a Star Fruit Tree growing naturally. It must have been planted by someone. He looked around but couldn’t find anyone—not even the dungeon boss. Upon closer inspection, he noticed that the tree wasn’t growing in soil but was planted on the corpse of a giant spider. The entire mountain was filled with corpses, each exuding a powerful and terrible aura, signifying that they were far stronger than Silas.

That explained how such a tree could survive in a low-level dungeon. Silas felt that something was wrong and even considered retreating. But he stopped himself, remembering that dungeons had restrictions. Only beings one level higher than the boss monster could appear, and this dungeon’s boss monster should be at peak Bronze level. A peak Silver-level creature might appear if he tried to take the core, but Silas was confident he could handle a peak Silver if he unleashed his full strength.
