chapter 16

  {dungeon core}

Well then it is time to start making the second floor. My core automatically moved to the deepest point in my dungeon. That being the 7th layer of my 2nd floor. The layer itself now filled with 20 centimeter thick layer of blood and other fluids, that dripped through the lattice. The 6th layer was slowly getting filled with bodies, most being my creatures with some being adventurers. Why people would leave bodies that long in the open, maybe they fell from the cliff or went alone.

Either way, there is a passage to my core at the bottom of the 7th layer. Starting at the 0th layer I began to populate it with a few trees. Only the unmodified veilvines. Veilvines look a bit similar to the rootgrove, but these trees do have a main trunk. The branches higher up droop down if it bring more light. Then I placed way more veilvines with the [greater gigantism] trait, instead of the one were the plant absorbs water from the air.

Then I started to modify the tree, creating variants. Ones with wider canopy’s, thicker trunk and more. Some trees I gave the [Toxic leaves] for one the 2 not gigantism trait. The trees with gigantism grew up to 400 meters tall. The width of the trees did stay relatively small, for veilvines had thin trunks. So the trees were only 20-30 meters wide. Covering the 0th layer with thousands of these trees. In some places lakes and streams were made. The biggest lake being 5 by 10 kilometers long covering a decent part of the western part of the ring.

Beneath the trees I placed all current variants of the ferns, and some regular giant moss. Thinking about it making the grass really big would be interesting. Long grass already exists, but big wide grass not. Now the trait [lesser bladeleaf] with grass the size of actual blades would be interesting. So I made a spot in a mountain where I grew the grass. Focusing on the bladeleaf ability to get stronger. After a few iterations the [bladeleaf] trait appeared. I then mixed [iron skin], [bladeleaf] and [greater gigantism] to create swordgrass. This grass can grow up to two meter high, but mostly smaller around 1-0,5 meters high. The blades width ranged from 10 to 30 centimeters wide. I think that you can use these blades of grass as blades.

  [bladeleaf]

This trait gives the ability to have sharp leaves

+100% sharpness (leaf), +50% rigidness (leaf)

The grass was scarcely placed around. I made It grow only in the high spots of the mountains and in a few high light areas. If someone were to walk into one of these patches of swordgrass without plate amor, they would be cut up.

Then looking through my traits to modify my ferns and moss, I saw I could add [lesser Toxic Spores] for both produced spores. And I gave some [Toxic leaves] for both are still plants with leaves. Then I started placing mushrooms throughout the jungle. Removing the [lesser decay] (plants) for [greater gigantism] in all but the ones with a better decay trait. The mushrooms grew very big, some were a meter tall and wide. One of the mushrooms that grew on trees, grew to a giant size of ten meter across the trunk. It was only up to a meter tall. The one mushroom with [decay](plants) I placed as well. Exchanging the improved spore trait with gigantism. The mushrooms were brown with black spots. I made this have bigger mushrooms, 3 meter tall and 4 wide. Giant mushrooms for giants amount of dead plant matter.

Now enough with plants and mushrooms, unto the creatures. Grabbing the mountain cat changing it to be bigger and making the fur color green with brown stripes. Making the cat blend in more. Then I changed the traits giving it [greater gigantism] for [lesser cold resistance], the [lesser camouflage] (mountain) for [lesser stealth] (natural) and changing [lesser rock stride] for [enhanced agility].

Creating a fast stealthy big cat. The cats size now being 3 meters tall and 9 meters long. Its claws being 30 centimeters long. I made a few hundred and let them loose on the 0th layer. In the lake I put some amphibians. For them I exchanged their colorful skin for yellow stripes. And instead of [Flashing rainbow skin] I gave them [lesser electric charge], Their bodies I made slimmer and longer with smaller legs. Making them look like the snakerat, but with slippery skin.

To help the electric amphibians I modified the fire-red kelp to become electric-yellow kelp. I did that by giving it [lesser electric core] and [lesser electric charge] instead of the fire traits, and I gave it gigantism instead of the ability to eat heat. The amphibians where over 8 meters long but only half a meter wide. The kelp grew over 50 meters long, the lake itself is at it deepest 80 meters. So the kelp grew sideways, covering every part of the lake.

Whoever goes to swim in that lake shall spark with joy, literally. Speaking of snakerats let me put them in this layer as well. I made them more wide and gave them pseudo wings. And by removing the [symbiosis] trait in return for [lesser buoyant] (air), they look totally different. They look like a wide snake with some scaled wings going down their body. Thinking of a way to give this creature a way to attack I thought, can I give it [bladeleaf] if I make leaf like parts on it? so I did I made thin leaf like protrusions at the end of the tail, that were made of organic titanium. And after giving it the trait, it did work!

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Great, I placed them in the forest, only a few. The most where placed above the pit and in the 1st layer. So if someone is stupid or weak tries to fly down, they will get swarmed by the flying-bladesnakes. The snakes were 13 meters long and 4 meters widest, but only half a meter to a meter thick. So if the snake lay down it would only be halfway the size of a kobold.

I placed some of the bugs the bug guy gave me. Of course removing their most useless trait for [greater gigantism]. The only bug I didn’t place was the ice mite, it didn’t fit the biome. The biggest bug the hornbeetle, who was 20 centimeters long grew to a size of 1 meter with some modifications. The horn of which was almost as big as the bug itself. The crystalis beetle grew with modifications, to a size of 0,5 meter. Letting the bug shoot 20-30 centimeter long crystal spikes. Deadly to adventurers if they don’t see a crystalline bug moving to them.

The electrostasis bugs trait change was a difficult one, for they had a really good trait combo. So I removed the increased stun duration for gigantism. The bug after the size increase being around 30-40 centimeters big. It had more difficulty flying, but it still could. I then made it so that each big electrostasis bug get a swarm of smaller versions. Letting the big one stun larger sapients and then the smaller ones increasing the duration.

Looking at the flying-bladesnakes I saw that the light algae was glowing brighter. I checked on them and saw a decent amount had [bioluminescence] making the pit glow a bit more bright. The colors of the algae variant greatly, red, green, blue, white and even black somehow. Most of the colors were white or blue since those glow the brightest. It made for an interesting show of light.

  [bioluminescence]

This trait gives the ability to emit a faint, steady glow.

  +100% light emitted

If you look form above you only get 2 or 3 kilometers before your sight gets blocked by the algae. In the lower layers the algae has become almost bright enough to light those layers up. It is still not enough, the next upgrade should make it bright enough.

Thinking about bioluminescence things, the jungle is rather empty in “smaller” plants. I took the moss I have and changed the moss to hang of the trees. I made them glow as well, in shades of blue to purple. I modified the algae that they could live on the bark of the trees, making them stick to most trees. I of course made them glow. The two made the forest a bit more colorful.

For now this is enough for the 0th layer, maybe later when I get more lifeforms I will add more. Then the 1st layer. With the idea of the 1st layer biome, I named it the meadows descend. Now adding the grass. Using the bladegrass would be a bit much. So I made the grass normal sized and gave it bioluminescence the lesser version. If I gave the grass the better version they would glow too much. And instead of [greater gigantism] I gave the grass [lesser resilience], making the grass more resistant to physical attacks.

Having filled every part of the upper and middle layer with the glowing grass, I started thinking of adding a other type of plant other than moss and few ferns. Trees wouldn’t fit, rootgrove can but only as roots kind of and the flowers. The flowers can fit, so I changed one of the flowers. The rose I made white and made the flower petals be more spread out. I made the white rose so it only grew one stem and a flower, the flower being only 30 centimeters tall. I also made it smell really nice for most sapients.

I spread them all over the 1st layer, the traits that they got where nothing special just [iron skin], [basalt skin] and [superior starforged petals]. Making it a totally normal flower, that can survive being blow up. Each flower weighs over 25 kilograms, its resilience making it easier to rip the entire flower plus roots out of the ground than to cut it. The flowers move and look like a normal flower, but when you grab one it feels like metal. It has at minimum +450% resilience (physical) and +200%(magical) resistance, with some fire resistance.

Seeing that that is enough added to that part of the layer, I started creating plants for the lower layer. Modifiening the clover and with gigantism, I made the clovers over 3 meters high. The clovers being high enough to walk below, covering everything below them in a light shadow. I placed the glowing grass below the giant clovers. The same with the upper parts minimal plant life variation. Simple and good. And the flowers of the clovers are good enough for variation, even if they collapse on themselves for being too big.

Now what life should I add in this layer. I could try to make a snakerat with many legs. Time to make a new hyper mutation chamber. Technically I can use the lowest layer as the chamber. It is still empty. I created a massive source crystal producing lightonium, then I added many snakerats. I told them reproduce, I then made it so that every 10 generations the ones with the most legs get used as a new base. The reproduction cycle of a snake takes only 2 weeks, but I can just create an adult version immediately after a conception. Skipping the entire growth of a creature, speeding everything up.

Unfortunately, I can only change existing patterns. Not truly change them. Only changing shape color and behavior, not adding limbs and extreme changes. Only gradual ones, it really limits the extend what I can do. Thinking about these experiments, I totally forgot about my exploding algae experiment.

Looking at the experimental pool I made, I saw that the explosion where way bigger. Electrical currents arching from the pool, chunks of water flying everywhere. The sound it gave of was deafening, it really sounded like thunder. Now, how high has the trait gotten.

  [greater electrical instability]

This trait makes the user instable and electrically explodes on contact

  +200% electricity, +100% explosion radius

  [greater explosive instability]

This trait makes the user instable and explodes on contact

+200% explosive strength, +100% explosion radius

2 traits. It would make sense since I set the condition with that the ones that explode the strongest get reused. Stopping the experiment here, as it would disturb most who would come here. I moved it into one of the mountains in the 2nd floor. Reusing the pool for mana production algae.
