Chapter 78. Traitor. Sure.

“Right, you think I don’t want her? Why did the guide even do this?”

“He said, and I quote, ‘to make life difficult’.”

  “...”

“I demand to speak to him.”

“right, because he'll talk to you just because you demand it.”

A screen suddenly appeared, showing the guide on it.

  “...”

  “Seriously?” Shila thought to herself.

“Hey! Give me my very non-biologically related daughter back!””

  “No.”

  “Why not?!”

“Because, it's cheating. You aren't allowed to be stronger until you complete the quest.”

“But I have Shila so why not Jamine?!”

  “Because… I said so?”

The screen closed, leaving Hilda annoyed

“Just send me to the 47th floor…”

  “Sure.”

Shila sent them to the 47th floor where they met a familiar face.

“Tsk…” Hilda clicked her tongue in annoyance as the cultist in red and black appeared once more.

  “What a greeting…”

  “Why are you here?”

“The 46th to the 49th floor are connected and my superiors are busy so yeah.”

  “Busy with what?”

“Oh yeah. A town on the 10th floor was destroyed by a necromancer and that town was a source of materials for us.”

  “A necromancer?”

“According to our estimates, indeed since all that remained were undead along with a crater.

Hilda turned to Shila who gave a nod.

“Fuck… I destroyed that too…” She muttered to herself.

  “Did you say something?”

“Oh, huh? Oh, no, was just talking to herself.”

  “Sure…”

“For the next thing I need you to do is to study.”

  “What?”

“How could our saviour be our saviour if they didn't understand the basic aspects of technology?”

  “I hate studying…”

  “Have fun!”

The cultist sent Hilda and Shila to a classroom where Shila chose a random seat and went to sleep, leaving Hilda to study by herself.

  “...”

“Fine.. Not like I haven't studied my ass off before…”

Hilda walked up to the teacher’s table, finding a book on basic technology as she sat down on the closest student seat and began to read.

For the next few hours, Hilda sat down, diligently studying, Shila having woken up already.

“Aren't you working a bit too hard, how about resting too?,” Shila whispered into her ears, purposely speaking in a much gentler tone, surprising Hilda as she stared at her.

“What? Oh, it's you, I thought you were… nevermind.”

“what? You thought your sister was here?”

Hilda stared at Shila, feeling oddly suspicious of her.

“Yes yes, I purposely did it to remind you of your sister.”

  “...”

“Why?” She asked after a slight bit of hesitation.

“Because, you're still basically my mom, you should take a break after Shila returns and this is the closest you’re gonna get for quite a while.”

Hilda let out a small smile, patting Shila's head.

“Just go back to sleep, you don't need to worry about me.”

“Fine, but if you don't then I'll tell your sister next time.”

Shila stared at Hilda who returned to studying for a moment before pretending to return to sleep before actually falling asleep.

Hilda glanced over at Shila as she patted her head again.

“I’d make for a bad mom wouldn't I? So far 2 of my ‘children’ have needed to tell me to take a break.”

Hilda says back down, going back to studying, occasionally glancing back at Shila.

Hilda continued to spend the next 3 days studying non stop due to her inhuman stamina and willpower even before she had the system, Shila staring at her whenever she wasn't sleeping, wanting to get her to take a break but refraining due to knowing Hilda wouldn't listen.

After a whole week, Hilda finished studying, getting Shila to send her back to the 47th floor which she did rather quickly.

  “Your back already?”

  “Yep.”

“Did you actually study or are you betting that I wouldn't test you?”

  “I studied.”

“So if I test you, you'd be able to answer?”

  “Yes.”

  “Sure.”

The cultist started to test Hilda as she acted every question, leaving him in shock.

  “Wha… that book was 2000 pages…”

  “So?”

  “...”

“Shut up and give me the next task.”

“Sure… but why the sudden rush?”

  “Because I feel like it.”

  “Sure I suppose.”

“Next is to make sure of that knowledge.”

  “Sure.”

Hilda and Shila both get sent to a workshop with futuristic equipment, each having been briefly described on their purposes and how to use them.

  “Alright, let's start.”

“Sure, what are you going to make?”

  “Necklace?”

  “For who?”

  “Isn't it obvious?”

“Right… your sister,” Shila muttered to herself as Hilda started on it, eventually making 4 necklaces with multiple functions such as communication, flashlight, translation along with everything that comes in the default setting of a newly bought phone.

  “Done!”

Shila sent them both back to the cultist who took a look at the newly made equipment.

“Well, you did memorise the book pretty perfectly, it's no surprise.”

  “I can keep these right?”

  “Of course.”

  “We'll be back.”

  “What?”

Hilda teleported herself and Shila back to the territory, confusing Shila.

  “Here.”

Hilda passed one of the necklaces to Shila, wearing one herself and keeping the other 2 into her inventory.

Shila took it slowly, watching Hilda's expression the whole time to make sure she wasn't messing with her.

  “Really?”

  “Yep.”

“But I thought it was just for your sister?”

“Shila, you are connected to me and can feel my emotions and thoughts at times and you know I can do the same.”

  “So?”

“When I meet my sister again, I won't start treating you guys differently, I won't prioritise you guys any less either.”

“Pinky promise me,” Shila held her pinky finger out, facing away.

  “Seriously?”

Hilda watched as Shila kept her finger held out before Pinky promise her.

  “And you better keep it.”

  “Obviously.”

“How about we take a break today?” Hilda suggested, confusing Shila.

“But weren't we going to wait for Jamine?”

“Well, just don't tell her okay?”

  “Traitor. Sure.”
